My New Ride....Hope no one in the familia is jealous.

Bad Photo, but great friends....From left to right....my son, Seth, Wim, a climbing judge in Belgium and also head of the International Rules Committee for climbing, Wim's wife Patti a super great Gal and then Anak, their very talented climbing daughter. Think she just won 4th overall in climbing for women in Belgium.

Well it looks like even if ya didn't want to, that crowd would drag you out climbing just like the rest of us!

No escaping it Lynnie! You're in our clutches!

Mwahahahahaha!

Well, how nice of you to check in Lynnie!

I'm working on putting together my remarks as president of a local docent naturalist organization serving some of LA County's Natural areas. We're having our annual volunteer recognition event Saturday morning and usually I'm mostly done by this point. But it's been a busy spring this year and the three kids are keeping me busy. I still have a ways to go. Could be more stressful but I'm just trying to breathe through it. It's working. Pretty much!

It will all come together as I have a format I use every year and I just need to fill in the blanks. But there's still a bit of original content I need to create. Lots of research to find words of wisdom, humor, woe and intrigue to share with my fellow volunteers. So I'm rifling through some fine thoughts from my personal board of directors: Gandhi, MLK, Thoreau, Colin Fletcher, Ed Abbey and Jimmy Buffet. Probably going to add something from the special adviser to the board, Gary Snyder as well. It feels like procrastination but it's quite productive and instructive.

This is my last year as president. Loved doing this but in this season of life, my kids are the priority and they do take up a lot of time... all worth it and much of it fun and humorous (well, humorous after the fact sometimes!).

Thanks to you for your good presence here and for your inspiration in how you conduct your days!

anak cranking

Anak is @ 13 if I remember well.....so here is the next generation. Little ones sat on a small and semi dicey ledge all day waiting for their turn on the rope at the Buttermilks. Next Gen is Awesome. Parents keep them outside and teachin' the appreciation of the planet and all that's on it.

Lynne, you still hold the light. I guess I didn't see it until this particular picture - but there it is.

Carry the torch of joy, that is all we can do.

Yesterday's wine....
Took our 6th grade class to Challenger Space Center ( a short walk from our school) where the kids got to take a virtual space explorer trip to Mars. They all participate in roles of a crew on a Mars station and as the crew of the spacecraft that takes them there. There are 48 of these Challenger Space Centers in the U.S.. This is a lasting legacy to the Challenger Shuttle crew that perished, an idea created by the family members of that crew.

The walk to the center was in the warm sunshine of a beautiful day.

Nice thread Lynne, and a good way to shed the weight of reading the unemployed thread. The reality of life may not be as wonderful as the role playing these kids did yesterday but with a little hope and prayer they might not have to face the grim realities of the (unemployed) working man's blues.

I'm finding more time to do my favorite thing:

It's reassuring to know that our love of the rocks and mountains and open spaces continues with each generation.

Tobia, Never forget that song you blessed me with on the "What Song...." Thread. The beautiful video of the flowing river and the incredible lyrics. Who was the gal that sang it again ? It was very healing for the grief and pain of loss. So I pray for you today, Proverbs 3:5,6. Peace, lynne
