We haven't exactly given over areas to the undesireables.

They've been systematically 86'd from decent areas to places like San Bernardino and the High Desert.

Roxjox, I agree on the victim mentality thing: but don't go to someones property as a guest and piss on the plant in the corner if they say not to do it. At least don't crow that you will do it on the internet if they ask you not too. Buy your own place and carry whatever you'd like all day long.

As for packing heat, nobody knows if yer knott waving it around, as stated above.

In any event, better to be judged by 12 (or evicted from the campground) than carried by 6...

Weird how the gun advocates say that guns make for safe places to live, but some of the states with the highest crime rates have the loosest gun laws and some of the states with the lowest crime rates have the strictest gun laws. Idaho has one of the highest rape rates in the nation.

rlf,

Not sure if you know this, but apparently the pit has been closed. Sort of. Law enforcement showed up last week and kicked everyone out, claiming that EVERYONE who stays there needs explicit permission from the land owners. I know this because one of my friends was there when this happened.

Myself and two friends rolled into the pit at about 9.30p this past Saturday night after a day of climbing. We were promptly kicked right the f*#k out by a particular climber/pit-resident, who was being really bitchy about the whole situation...

Anway, if you are in fact the person who deals with problems and legal issues pertaining to that land, then I suspect you will need to contact the Sheriff's department and inform them that climbers do have the permission to camp there....

This "pit" you all are talking about sounds like a hellhole. Guns and tweakers and stupid people in the middle of desert white trash central - yeah baby, set me up with a reservation!

Also - only a selfish a-hole would book up a bunch of sites just for parking. Plan ahead and ride share.

while we're all bitching about camping, one way to address the growing demand for camping in JT is to relegate all the RVs to maybe the Boyscout parking lot, or some such place. I mean seriously, on any given weekend tons of the campsites are taken up by people in RVs who just aren't using the damn site. Anybody ever try to camp at Jumbo Rocks? Its a joke...

Nope.

Plan ahead, show up Friday morning, and buy up as many sites as NPS says we have to to park our vehicles overnight without being hassled by The Man.

Simplest way we've found to work within the system.

There's also a "two tent - six person maximum" rule that's as idiotic as the parking restriction, and only serves to spread campers out among several sites when one would do.

Yeah, I'm aware of the situation at the pit, one of the things I'm dealing with at the moment.

I will post an update sometime this afternoon once I get this cleared up.

Thanks!

You can also just park at Walmart and sleep in your car. It's not that far...
Plus, I have parked many times on the sides of a dirt roads in JTree without issue. I think if you just go there late, be quiet and leave early no one minds.

re camping: Extra cars get parked in the over flow lot. Jeez. I personally don't want to see more than 2 cars parked in a campsite, or 6 people, too much impact. No sh#t on the ride share, duh.

NPS is full of it all over with regards to camping.
SO JT got federal funds for the road? Or Cal Trans?
Very interesting, since 120 through Tuolumne is not of a legal width so Cal Trans has a hands off attitude about it. It needs to be widened and re paved desperately. (But it is closed at least 6 months of the year.)

RokJox, your the only person here I see exhibiting a victim mentality. I have a strong hunch you bring trouble on yourself with your attitude.
I don't expect trouble, don't get it, and the only time I've been raped is by men I trusted. I have stopped someone from killing someone else, and I did not need a gun!

rlf, good on you and good luck.

FLACCID, CAN YOU NOT SEE THE DIFFERENCE? TURN OF YOUR DAMN CAPS LOCK DUDE.
(oh why do I bother, he's just a faceless troll anyway. especially with that name.)

nature, the dogs could have been shot or otherwise hurt. Better to keep them at hand. Shepard's will kill(and be killed) to defend their owner and most criminals know this. I sure miss mine.

I’m compelled to question your statement, John. According to the Seventh United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems, Canadians were victim to .73 rape cases per 1,000 people in the period from 1998 to 2,000. The United States rate for the same period was .30 rape cases per 1,000. As you know, Canada has tighter gun control laws than the U.S.

The Swiss with 7 million people have hundreds of thousands of fully-automatic rifles in their homes. Portugal has tight gun control and limited gun ownership. Yet Switzerland has less than half as many per capita homicides.

Mexico has non-gun murder rates in excess of the Unites States total murder rate.

Statistics can be deceiving. Britain has a lower homicide rate than the U.S. but those rates were similarly low before gun control was imposed, there.

Rape statistics can be even more deceiving. Often, women and children in ethnic enclaves and ghettos do not report or file rape complaints out of fear. This affects statistics dramatically.

In theory, rape rates should follow violent crime rates, closely.

You cited Idaho’s rate of forcible rate being quite high. (11th by FBI stats) Yet according to FBI statistics, Idaho and the other Rocky Mountain states have relatively low violent crime rates.

Could it be that many rapes are not reported in states with more rigidly margined ethnic populations? (ie, New York, California)

FORCIBLE RAPE BY STATE FBI report

VIOLENT CRIME BY STATE FBI

I have to agree with you in the context that we don’t like everyone carrying guns……but people are scared and they WILL carry weapons if they feel the necessity….including some who conspicuously preach against the practice.

Oh good grief Jennie, I think you just like to argue. I looked up the statistics for violent crime in America and no correlation could be made between having guns and having lower crime. Some states with loose gun control had very high crime rates. Some states with very strict gun control had very low crime rates.

Rox made a different point. He thinks he is safer with a gun. Maybe he is if he is vigilent and knows how to use one, but there are also statistics that show that many gun owners end up the victim of their own weapons.

Yeesh.. Rox is always going on about gun ownership making a place safer. He rants on california for having strict gun control, but as I have shown, the statistics just don't bare it out. Its not about Idaho or California.

I'm just sick of Rox ranting on California.

You want to argue the other side. Go for it. I'm certain that you can.

You know what sense of power you feel pointing a loaded 9mm at a mans head.
One step and that would have been it. I had been trained to unload the clip at a range of a 5 feet Juan wins.

I told the guy we did not need his help 3 times. He than told me to get in his truck and drive into town, he wanted me to leave my girlfriend in the car. Ever Warning Signal in my brain was go off. This man meant us harm.

I to this day kind of wish I did smoke the guy.
