I have set 3 of my friends shoulders that have popped out after watching them all set it on their own on a previous occasion and all from climbing. 2 out of 3 of them often still climb hard to this day so you will be okay probably. also with shoulders and knees ive noticed that most climbers ive heard of that get the surgery are just as good or bad off as those that didnt - ??

im getting over a broken tib fib - its scary looking but i think it will heal good. its been 11 mnths and its just now showing some good signs so hang in there.

and fuk yeh if you pull - then push to balance.

Don't know what I could add here, what with all
the crying and complaining I've done on the
disintegrating rock thread. I suppose, if I had the
energy, I could review how things have evolved, etc.,
but I can't right now.

Let us know sometime Pat. Seems like your suffering has been intense and it concerns me that it's still so bad. From What I got from your thread, do the docs really have a handle on what's going on inside your body?

Peace

hey there crimpergirl...oh my... say, as to your feet..

my mom, i never knew... has had her feet turn very odd these last few years and she said, that really they have been this way, but not so bad, all her life... wow, i never it ...

all due to bunyons... her mom had then, or an aunt of her?

well, her feet are so "ugly" as SHE calls them that she will not let anyone see them... she said her one granddaugher made fun of her--so sad :(

her toes now turn in from the huge bunyons on the outsides...

not sure, but most of us, kids, have our dads long feet and no bunyons...
so i felt very sad for her, as just as you seem to be saying:

it IS hard for her to walk, now.... but she is used to it....
(her knee hurts her worse)...

but yeah, her feet have not been doing good, so:

i very deep and sincerely, wish you best wishes for your foot surgery in december...

god bless and take care.... :)

Callie, how 'bout a shot of yer feet IN the heels that put the bunions on yer feet?! Hope the procedure goes without incident and yer not in too much pain after! Best wishes for a speedy recovery....treat yerself to a new pair of shoes afterward!

Ha! Though I do like heels, I haven't worn them too very much, especially not recently. And I gave up ridiculously tight climbing shoes years ago.

These devils come from the mechanics of walking, heredity, etc. That's it, I'll blame my parents! (Both are denying any contribution).

I promise that if I could put my foot into heels without squealing, I would take a photo for you. For now, the hooves are hidden in a pair of socks so as not to traumatize the masses. :)

I've spent over a month on crutches here with a Grade 3 medial ankle sprain and a nice high ankle sprain to add insult to injury. Fell at the top of Selaginella when a foothold broke, sending me down about 15-20 feet.

Fought with doctor/insurance for:
A) a correct diagnosis (I've a degree in exercise physiology and was an athlete/personal trainer for years, so I knew he was wrong)
and B) a referral to an orthopedist

Still waiting for a flippin MRI. The orthopedist was convinced that my foot was the problem, except for the pain in my ankle and lower leg. I just want competent doctors, and to be able to walk without pain!

Karl, your foot looks like mine- nearly identical bruising and pooling of blood. The black/blue/yellow/red is almost gone for me now, but there's still swelling and point tenderness. I've slowly weaned myself off the pain meds (hate that crap anyways) and I have lots of people praying for me, and it's been getting slowly better. I can actually walk from the bed to the bathroom without crutches now. Progress.

Well Callie, I ain't buyin' it, still think the bunions are from HIGH heels. Or maybe some of Tarbabies cowboy boots.

just got the MRI report back...

nothing seems horrendous,

IMPRESSION :
1. Multilevel degenerative changes. Left-sided disc protrusion at L5-S1 with narrowing of the left lateral recess. Mild to moderate stenosis at L3-4 and L4-5 as noted.

Which would seem to indicate that my PT is going to make me work my ass off addressing this issue.

I just might live...

I don't think they look horrendous, but the story I told was true. And it seems even when they weren't bad, I made quite the impression on Mighty Hiker.

I imagine the way they look and pain aren't necessary correlated. I just know they @!$!# hurt like a mofo. The left foot is the one that is getting cut on in Dec. Notice how the big toe is now hiding behind toe #2? That's not good.

And yeah yeah, I need to get on the pedicure. I know.

Okay Senor Jefe - let's see yours!

Or maybe go see a good reflexologist! I know people who could spend hours unraveling those feet.

Hi everyone

I thought I would update this thread on my achilles tendon rupture from Oct 31 - I reckon I tweaked it dike hiking on halfdome, but it actually failed about 5 days later while playing tennis with my kids.

I took the non-operative route after some medical advice from the UK, with the caveat to get weight bearing early (in a walking cast).

Well it worked a treat. 7 weeks non-weight bearing in variety of casts; in a walking cast for 2 weeks; in a removable boot for a week, and back into shoes after a total of ten weeks. I pounded the vitamin C - I don't know if that was my secret, but the docs were pretty astounded at how qucikly I healed up.

I went for my 1st PT appointment at 10 weeks, and they measured my ankle mobility with expectation to do some work to break up scar tissue and increase mobility. Well, my injured ankle had the same mobility as the uninjured one, so that was about it for PT.

Today was the first real big test. 30 miles on the road bike around the East SF Bay hills. I was amazed that I had no issues. My calf is still pretty wasted, so I reckon I am going to feel it tomorrow.

I can't raise my heel yet on the injured ankle alone, but I can raise both together. I need a lot more strenght work before I will be smearing on the right foot (route recommendations for weak right foot gratefully accepted).

Only side effect so far is cosmetic - those that have experienced an ATR will know how freaky their tendon looks after it heals. I have this nice slender tendon on the uninjured ankle, and this thing that looks like a beat up gym rope on the other side - uggh! I hear that sugical repairs get even bigger!

I plan to be in the climing gym by end of March, and on real rock by May.

I hope everyone is healing up for the spring/summer. I am actually going to venture out on snow shoes next week...

All the best,

Rich

Crimpie- I gave up on tight shoes years ago too. I'm always in shoes a size larger than my street shoe with thick socks.

My injury update- My recovery from bicep surgery is better than expected. They moved my PT up about a month sooner than predicted. Not sure when I'll actually be cleared for climbing though.

I'm really sick of not being able to climb. ;( Gettin' fat here....

I got minor tendenitis in my middle finger (pain and swelling), trying to give it a rest for a few weeks. Lot's a icing, vitamin I and glucosamine and no climbing. Meanwhile, going to tinker around with aid climbing and do a lot non-climbing specific conditionining.

Glad to hear you're getting better Maid. You'll be climbing in no time. Me, I go under the knife again a week from today. (Yikes!) Then it is lame-city for a while. But by May I'll be raring to grab the trailer, pack up the cat, and head out with BrassNuts!

Ah Maid - I forgot that side effect. I too got fat. I used be a 32 inch waist. I ehad to buy some bigger trousers for work. I even contemplated some with an elasticated waist, but stopped at the last moment - elasticated waists are a slippery slope ...

I would hate to see my triglycerides right now.

After waiting out 2 months for a sprained ankle. During my indoor soccer game I tear my MCL. Really?? Great. This is devastating. I am praying for no cartalidge damage, that would mean surgery #3 for my poor left knee

Listen, I just want to say how much sympathy I have for all you folks who are currently injured or about to have surgery. It's no fun at anytime, but as the spring weather approaches it's even worse, as you're just craving getting out into the warm sun and gorgeous places. Hang in there guys and gals. There is so much to be happy about and thankful for even when injured (as I know you know).

To paraphrase Arnold: "You'll be back!"
