Reilly, lad.
I've read a novel about the St. Patricios. The hangings stuck in my mind.
Some vicious bastions in that crew, shooting officers in the main during the last battle. Opportunistic and maybe fulfulling, too, for some, but good form, all the same!
I found it slightly odd, considering your recommending this subject, that they were led by a certain Jon Riley.

Speaking of cats, I would like to extend an official Flames condolence to neebee over your recent bereavement Bobby-Bob, companion of many years.
Recently, "BB" (the little BB brain!) was the center of a storm when he swallowed a needle ("What were you thinkin'?"--Dr. Pheline).
It came out all right in the end, but this time...I'm so sorry for your loss.
This for you, then--
THE PURRY GATES
(Anon)
It seems that I've reached Heaven, or its doorstep at any rate,
And been winding round St Peter's ankles by the Pearly Gates,
I've plucked the angels' harp-strings and made a merry sound,
But it's plucking at my heartstrings that you are not around.
So I think I'll sit and wait here, just outside the door,
And as the souls come floating in, I'll tap them with my paw,
And when you seek admittance, they'll rename this place -
It will become Purradise, and these the Purry Gates!

hey there say, mouse... oh my, thank you so very kindly... i never thought i'd get through that awful cat-needle episode...
god's love and grace, and the thanksgiving scoop, as to the 'poop' was:
a miracle victory...
was a hard sad time, this time, getting over this, too, as:
i had LEFT him behind for a trip to my grieving mom... :(
ol' bobby must have somewhere along the line, slipped a knotch, :(
was okay, but not very well, when i got back... did my best, but wow:
23 years, is a long time and the good lord knew--it must have been time to go home... at least, i was here for him...
dear friend lisa, too, tried to help--just in case...
a good just in case, last a lifetime, even if the case, was not to be...
here is ol' bobby bob, back in his 'hay day' or, 'pillowstuff' day,
as, modern-life, our pillows are not stuffed with 'hay'... ;)
thank you for thinking of me, and my critters, mouse... :)

Mysterious Danish Group Builds Exotic Compound on Baja Coast
http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2010/feb/03/cover-mysterious-danish-exotic-compound-baja/
Could the answer be blowing in Tvind?
As we headed home to the United States, we came to a military checkpoint on the highway just north of the Santo Tomás Valley. A machine gunner watched from a hillside, and soldiers behind barricades of sandbags and used tires gripped automatic weapons — signs of Mexico’s drug-war violence. The vehicle in front of us was thoroughly searched after all of its riders were required to step out. We were asked by a solider where we had been, and I replied, “San Juan de las Pulgas.” He quickly waved us through. Though relieved, I momentarily wondered, as someone who might pass for a middle-aged Dane, about the extent of Tvind’s influence in Mexico.

I'd have given him my Grateful Dead shirt to wear to heaven (pictured above), but I'd already given it to my cat Buster. Funny how we'll even give the shirts off our backs to our feline and canine buddies.

Moosedrool, thank you for the "head up."*
I witnessed one of these blood moons in '82, I believe it was, with my daughter, who was not yet five, from the Shirley residence in Box Canyon, high above the towns of Chatsworth and Canoga Park in the Dan Fernando Valley and will always remember how CLOSE it seemed and how MAGNIFIED it was!
I'd love to be someplace special to photograph this event, like in the hills.
Or even in the hills north of town, my pet walking area, which is now covered in green for just a few weeks more.
*A 'head up' is for one guy, a 'heads up' is for multiple persons, you dig?
Real James Ellroy fans know about bloody moons.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_on_the_Moon_(novel);
Some Moon Man on the drum kit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=El6mMTvEGdw
And that closes out this page with a bang, my friends.
Be sure to check out this new volume of literature based on himself. Moosedrool On the Moon: Ways to enjoy a sabbatical. $5.95 pbk. (cheap).

A post from a dude named Robert on another channel...about fleas and sugar from Cuba.
I remember when Castro came to power.
It didnt' mean anything to me...I was only 8 or 9 years old. But i remember watching TV and The Tonight Show was on. (He [Steve Allen, host] was the predecessor to Jack Parr who preceded Johnny Carson who went before Jay Leno for all you x-generators here). Steve Allen sat down at the piano and started his own impromptu, Cuban Style Salsa of Batista Flees which was the headline of the NY TIMES when all this came about.
It's funny, the things we remember.
Robert
I have remembered this song, as well.
It went like, "My dog has Batista fleas...yada yada yada."
And the Bircheff Bros. stayed for a few years in the off-season on Avenida de las Pulgas, while Dave worked at a metal-plating gig, I think.
It pays to remember the small things, sometimes. Not this time, especially, but some of the time...
A lot of it is just noise.
