Dear Bobby, Faith, and Model Family,
I never know what to say when something like this happens. I have taken refuge in the fact that your family is strong and loving and Bobby's a very strong individual who will pull through. I was so excited to see that you were able to get back to the states! Please continue to keep us posted.
Love to all of you!!

hey there joe... i did not see the HBO special, as i have a very low income and cannot afford tv cable--do not get stations...BUT i have seen many articles... THANK you so very much, as we must learn about this, if we want to be there for friends, family, loved ones, etc, that have had such injuries...
it seems, that now, through such terrible situations for these soldiers, that now, for the first time, head injuries are finally being made public, and THAT MEANING, the heroes of every kind that face these issures, whether form car wrecks, accidents, assaults, etc, will finally be given honor as to how their struggle reaches so far and wide for victory at regaining life
instead of being pushed aside and ignored, or treated as not needed in society....(now, i am more so even referring to those that aren't so lucky to have reached such huge bounds in their recover)...
there has been hard trails for them, and they usually travel alone, once healed, without their past good jobs, and without many friends left that have patience to along side " their world" long enough to even visit them....
i am very happy that bobby here, has such wonderful friends, you all will never really know how speical they are, until you see more folks that are alone from same-such situations ....you all are wonderful folks... god bless
*LAST ADDED NOTE: 3, 5, or even 10 years later, after a head injury, very high percents of these folks begin getting seizures (epilepsy)...
AS TO THE SOLDIERS AND HEAD INJURIES:
i just read an article on how everything (so they said) is now being done to find a cure for this, in honor of course to help these soldier....
now, there are already:
2.7 million americans living with seizures (epilepsy)...
and did you know:
every YEAR 200,000 MORE american will experience a FIRST time seizure? It is lie changing, and can happen to anyone at any age, for even unknown reasons....(also, many times, a long past, head injury)
it will sure be nice for these folks that already need help, to get to benefit from whatever they can learn to help these young soldiers... so far, only medication and some brain surgery has helped, and a nerve stimulator, and even then, these are not permanent solutions and the seizures come back....
pray folks, and lets all try to learn to be the best-informed that we can be for those that need us...

Bobby-
Mark Jenkins here. Was on assignment when I heard the horrific news. Read the whole thread. Man, you're so loved brother!! There's so much hope and healing winging your way, no chance for anything but a positive outcome. Just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of kindness. This is simply another crazy challenge Bobby, and nobody takes on a challenge better than you. Get well friend, at your own pace, in your own time.

Bobby and Faith,
So glad you are safe and in the states. I will try and recap the 4th of July activities as best as I can remember, since our theme was party down Model Style, I may end up leaving some details out.
To start, it was beer, food and good stories at George and Lynn's house. It seems George and Lynn always provide us Base Camp Cody, and always are well stocked with good food and beverage. They are such great hosts!!
Of course we had to start with an adventure which was the River, because it was hot! Lyon and Hodgel fought over being Captain of the raft, while Selk and I were the two hard working ship mates. Jake and Hayden kayaked. Hodgel did awesome, him and I even swam a bit.
The afternoon barbeque continued at George and Lynn's with the Steve Simonton crew and the Catchpoles, Finnof's, Henyons, and Selks. We thought of you alot, remembering past times.
So , the real fun began a bit later in the night. When Jake, Lyon, and Henyon were good and liquered up. George and Lynn were quite amused at some of the tales that were told. After we had enough of mostly razing Henyon ,who's stories always seem to get better as the night goes on (we love you , Henyon) , we headed for the Coe Mansion party. There we met up with, who other than Nick Rohrbach and his lovely , expecting wife. Can you believe it , Nick is grown up! Party hosts Jay Hayes and HR Coe were there and Buster Ivory. From there we ended our night , where else , you guessed it, the Silver Dollar.
Everywhere we went we added a few more old faces to our group. Andy Strike , is doing great, I think he has added 40 pounds of pure muscle to his skinny bones. Aaron Brown finally got his drivers license. Pete Meleski and his wife Terry climbed the routes during their visit. I think there were about 1000 people at the Silver Dollar!
I am not sure who won , for Partying down Model Style that night, but I think it may have been Lyon, who lasted the longest. I was told he finally headed in at 5 a.m. My night ended shortly after Erynne Selk and I toasted you with shots of crown royal, which were supposed to be followed by jagermeister but we wimped out.
Have a good day Bobby and we are all glad you are back in the States!!!
Love Heather

Hey Bobby
Being a Canadian I totally forgot about the 4th of July celebrations, but reading the other posts here reminded me of the time we had a large gathering on Lucky Lane in Lander, WY. It was a typically hot 4th of July and we had a huge potluck spread stationed inside Todd and Amy's garage. 20-30 people grazed the tables, gorging on all sorts of BBQ'ed flesh, veggies, salads, fruit, etc. We were all killing time until it was dark enough to begin firing off the ludicrously large amounts of semi-restricted fireworks. Of course we were all too excited to wait for dark to blow things up, so we decided to see what happens to various melons when they are violated by an M80 firecracker. As you may recall, honeydews and cantaloupes completely evaporate, leaving only a small spray stain of juice on the ground, while the larger and juicier watermelons blew soft chunks and misted the crowd with refreshing melon scented vapor. Then someone found a bowling ball. It seemed like too much of a coincidence to ignore, that an M80 fit perfectly into the finger holes. Welcome to your first war zone Model; someone lit the fuse and rolled the ball into the middle of the street and everyone started to run for cover. KA-BAM! Stupid idea? Yes. Exhilarating, you bet your ass! We never imagined that it would destroy a bowling ball, but it did and we found chunks of it BEHIND Holly’s house (#8 lucky lane). No one got so much as a scratch, not a single car was hit, and all the house’s windows were spared, which was amazingly lucky considering the amount of shrapnel that flew around our heads.
I thought I would share that memory with you, just in case you forgot about it and one day found yourself asking: “I wonder what would happen if I put a firecracker into a bowling ball?”
Rest well and heal fast.
Cheers,
Scott and Sandra

More great rock. I just walked this cliff the other day. Catches shade in the afternoon. You should really consider taking a little time to relax in Lander - I think in about six years we could climb-out this cliff.
Also, I really think JB is moving forward on the house in Lander. I'm sure between the two of you you could make buying a house in town a money-making enterprise.
He'll be in town for the Climbers' Festival. Jade and Peter are coming up, too. There's going to be a new event this year: the "Bobby Model Drunken Railing Dash". Participants have to yell, "Get drunk! Party!", then go sprinting between tables on the Gannett Grill patio and leap onto a wet railing. Should be fun. My money is on Leif.
Sorry to hear about the respiratory infection. I have to say it doesn't worry me much, as you ALWAYS have one for weeks on end whenever you are on a hard expedition. Be strong, brother. Work hard. Be Bobby Model. We are counting on you.

Bobby,
I just read Bechtel’s post and couldn’t help but brag a little about my upcoming trip. I’m counting the minutes until I get off of work here in lovely Landiego, then it’s a quick stop at the Breadboard for nourishment and a mad dash (?wobble) into the mountains with an 80 pound pack. Should be enough mosquitoes to drain my body in a few unprotected minutes, but it will all be worth it when I get up tomorrow and go climbing on the new crag that I found.
Check out these specs: 40 feet high at it’s peak, 80 degrees, slightly chossy to ricey and peppered with flaring offwidths where it’s not completely bereft of holds. It’s a twelve mile hike straight up a scree slope to camp, there’s no water (except for a fetid marsh for the mosquitoes) except what you can carry from the river 2.36 miles away and the sun should bake up there, unless the hillside is being raked by lightning.
It’s a pity you can’t be here to take photos of the first ascent(s)! The rock is sort of a mottled dull gray, as are the hills that mask the view of the sunset/sunrise and the greater mountains beyond. I’m not going to be able to comb my hair, I have a big zit on each cheek, I’ll be wearing a black t-shirt along with some non-descript shorts with a stain on the side and my eyes are going to be closed most of the time.
Aw what the hell...everyone knows pictures of me don’t sell.
Wish me luck. I’m sure as hell rooting for you.

Hi everyone, this is Charlotte, reporting from New York. I saw Bobby and the gang yesterday and wanted you all to know that his is in the most incredible place and being looked after by the most outstanding people. He is on the 8th floor at Mt Sinai, a hospital that would blow your mind, in a (ICU) room with a very large window that practically looks over Central Park. When I saw Bobby it was mid-afternoon and the whole room was bathed in the most beautiful light, and because his head is almost directly under the window it really looked like he was drinking it in. I also have this personal theory that because he is so close to so many trees he is also getting a massive dose of chlorophyle. Not very scienitific, I know, since he is lying behind a window, but that IS what I believe. The staff are very nice and super professional and it's funny because they ask a lot of questions about Bobby, and invariably it comes down to "so he's a pretty amazing fella' isn't he?" And of course, by everyone's answers you would think that Bobby is Superman's second coming and ... but, hang on, he IS Superman's second coming! In any event, please rest assured that he is in the best imaginable surroundings and that everyone here is doing their utmost to see him through this, now it's up to Bobby to rest and recover, and it's up to all of US to keep supporting him, sending our thoughts and prayers his way.
Speaking of thoughts and prayers, Bobby's family is doing amazingly well given the circumstances. Big Bob is there right now, and he has agreed that we shall soon have our long-threatened political conversation (Yay!, see my previous post). Faith is slowly getting over the flight, which apparently was pretty draining. Best of all, she is surrounded by an amazing group of friends and family and believe you me, she IS looking over her big brother and asking the doctors lots of questions. Mariella spends a lot of time at the hospital as well and her crossword puzzles book is now well worn. This being the Model gang, there are still some good moments of levity and I'm sure there will be many more to come.
OK, everyone, that's all the news for now. Faith sends her love to everyone. Do keep all the thoughts, prayers and energy coming, Bobby is enjoying them. I will post again before I leave New York with the latest update.
Take care, Charlotte
PS: the NY Times published a short piece on Bobby this morning (in the Sports section), he he, now he is TOTALLY going to be the rock star of Mt. Sinai...

Hey Mo,
Welcome back my friend. Now that you are only a 12 hour drive from NC I have no excuse but to come up there and visit you. Remember all those times you were in DC or NY and I attempted to shame you into coming down for a visit? And the one time you finally did come and we were going to go up to Stone Mountain and climb some scary friction it snowed the night you arrived. Not only did it snow but it snowed over a foot, an unheard of amount here in the southeast, and believe it or not is has not snowed since. Hard to believe it was over 3 years ago.
So you see, you are our good luck charm, and if you don’t wake up and get your butt down here the entire state of NC will be in a persistent state of humidity and drought and we will never see snow again. Which, after all of those nights in the snow cave up at Passo Superior, post-holing jaunts to the base of Fitz Roy or the storm that kept us tent-bound at Urdicus on the Baltoro Glacier in Northern Pakistan, sounds like a pretty positive forecast. But remembering our snowball fights and wrestling matches in the front yard here in balmy NC only makes me long for the days of the great “BoMo Blizzard of 2004” as Jade and I have come to know it.
You are greatly missed my brother, but I am certain that when you are ready you will wake up and ask where your 100-plus lb. backpack full of camera gear is.
It’s waiting for you.
Peter
Bobby approaching the base of Fitz Roy-Patagonia, Argentina
Anyone who has attempted to keep up with Bobby in the mountains knows this is what you usually see-his backside about 100 yards ahead of you. And then, when he stops to rest long enough for you to catch up, he removes his headphones and says "Man, I sure am dragging today".

Hey Bobby,
I saw your beautiful mom yesterday. She looked good despite everything that is going on with you. I hope to meet Faith someday so that I can see that other person that makes your moms eyes glow with that love that only a mom knows. I know that she will bring a part of that hug I gave to her back to you and share it. I will be asking you if you felt it. She told me of the layover in London. It doesn't sound like alot of fun, to say the least. She truly has been through alot, but would do it all over again for her sweet sweet children.
Rod from Northern Gardens has been quite busy next door. He put 3 or 4 loads of river rock around the trees and shrubs the last couple of days. We showed your mom what the building is going to look like. She was very excited for the upgrade. It is going to look great. Wish you could drop by like old times and we could give you a sneak peek as well. Guess that will have to wait. The grass still isn't in, but it won't be long now.
I will be taking Todd and Kirt and Monty up to Cooke City tomorrow for their big hike. I think that they are pretty excited. I think that we will be taking a jaunt over to Cody tonight to meet Monty's new girlfriend. I am so glad that he found a nice girl. Monty's dad is quite ill right now, so he is spending some quality time with him before he leaves on the hike.
I look forward to that day when you wake up and ask for your 100 pound pack full of camera gear. We are all very happy that you are back on "this side of the pond" and we are thankful that the trip went as well as it did. Keep fighting the infection and pretty soon, you will be joining us for some good conversation and whatever else strikes you as fun at the time. Maybe some food that you can actually eat with your mouth - Peanut Butter Pasta anyone??? Heck, who knows, maybe that is something that you are longing for right now. I am sure that they remember how to make it and they would be happy to come to your aid if that is what you truly wished for.
Bobby, heal well and know that we all stay close to the computer to read of the events that are happening in your daily life. How is that for stardum? You mean so much to so many.
Take care,
Janet

Bobby, Faith, and Family:
You don't know me; nor I you. I work with Lyon Davis and have been following Bobby's progress. What an amazing family you are...I have been reading the posts. I just want you all to know that there is more positive energy being sent your way than you can probably fathom. Even people you have never heard of are thinking of you daily and visualizing your full recovery. I told Lyon that I fully expect to meet you one day when you come by to visit him.
Believe it or not, I spent the 4th of July in Cody myself some 40 odd years ago. I was just a child; but I remember the parade and the friendliness of the people. That trip has always been among my favorite childhood memories. At the time, I lived in West Virginia.
Well, I just wanted you to know how many people you continue to reach and what lessons you will share with so many when you fully recuperate and we ourselves can see the miracle of your total healing.
Recently I read The Secret and am thinking of the Miracle Man Mr. Goodman. I have no doubt that you will be climbing again.
God bless you all

Hi Faith, Bobby and Team Model at Mt.Sinai,
I just wanted to pop in and tell you that I'm thinking of you all and praying for you daily (usually more).
Several years ago, I was at the Mooncrest Christmas party. You were supposed to have been there, Faith, but somewhere along the way your travel was delayed and you were driving up from Denver that night, but would be home way late. Anyhow, I said hello to your father and told him that we were classmates growing up in Cody - and you should've seen his face light up. He was glowing with pride. He was so pleased to catch me up on your latest adventures, and Bobby's too. I can only imagine how proud he is of you now. Both of you. The Model stamina is inspiring.
Prayers and love going your way,
Aryn (Holm)Rossett

I was cleaning out my inbox today and saw this note from Bobby after Todd Skinner's death. Bobby, I've never met you in person, but I'm sending the same good thoughts and energy your way that you put out there for your friend Todd. As Todd said, "Kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight."
Matt
"Hi Matt,
Sorry for the late reply.... Just returned from Lander where we celebrated Todd’s life last Saturday and also his birthday. A beautiful and perfect day... Many stories, slides, and a huge fire in the crisp October night.
I spent 60 days camped in a tent... 30 of which were tent bound at a touch over 18,000 feet on Trango Tower with Todd Skinner. I remember while after being trapped in a tent during one storm for nine days strait when the wall above was caked with ice and most expeditions in the Karakoram had left the Baltoro Todd wrote a quote on our tent wall “You must kick at the darkness until it bleeds daylight !!” It was Todd’s perseverance that got us to the top a couple weeks later. Big wall free climbers are forever indebted to him for his unmatched determination and vision that he brought to the sport.
Sometimes I pass through places where I had traveled with Todd and meet the same people we had encountered in the years past...whether it be a Samburu goat herder in the northern district of Kenya or a Balti guide in the Karakoram, the first thing they ask is: How’s Todd? He cared about the people that crossed his path. He always gave more than he took. Never will a day pass that I won’t think about Todd Skinner. His spirit will live on through his wonderful family and children and also through all of us who shared his presence no matter how short or long it was.
That’s what made him uniquely Todd Skinner...
Thanks Matt
Bobby"

If Bobby is still in a coma (and I can't tell by reading these p[opsts), we might consider doing a group prayer/mojo session at a given time just to see if our colllected passion might help the cause. I've heard of that working before. At the very least he'l quite possibly get a strong message from all his friends.

hey there largo (jl)... there was a bull rider that was stepped on by a bull(his skull) and his wife was asking for prayer, and folks were praying from all over, and he has had an amazing recovery in just 3? or 3 1/2 months...and was recently at the funeral for past-rodeo cowboy, jim shoulders... but, he, lee akins, stilll have more therapy to go...( i am not sure how his speech is going yet, but he is walking)
sooo---i said all this to encourage you all, that, that is a great thing to do... prayer is great as doing wonders, but JOINED-UP prayers have that extra humbleness of folks carying to "carry another burden" and we can do that....
i am fasting on fridays, and hoped that others would join me---WHAT is one day of no meals, when bobby has to go without all of his?.. if you or anyone wants to join and do that... that is kind of like "bringing out the heavy artillary".... so keep it up folks, this a powerful stuff--joined efforts in love...before god above...
ALSO one folk, here, mentioned to pray at 8:00, (every friday??? was it?)... everyone can set that time aside for bobby...
there have been many head injuries folks that are able to function today by the grace of god and they have powerful stories...
so now, GO FOR IT!
ps---*yes, sadly, on some occasions, some folks don't survive past the first few days...but even these folks, through prayer, knew that it was time to let go of their loved one and they had peace in there heart that it was a "timeing element" even as babies being born, is , that's just how it goes, here in this life, for reasons that we do not see here, but one day will see...
so, we have that "flag to plant" for this young man, as we all here and his family, in person, have seen bobby come this far, already... the path seems to opening daily for him... one will never regret days given up as to food, or prayer, when one see the victory, afterwords...
you all being climbers, can really feel how great the victory of conquering a rough chore, can be... much more than us little ol gals at home, :)
largo, (jl)---thank you very very much for suggesting this again.. as some folks had earlier mentioned joined efforts, so you are sure on trail!...
sorry, i am getting so strong with this, and ready to press on some more, it is just that i have seen so MUCH done, in these areas, and i really want bobby to have his victory...( i got three boys, and a girl, all grown, and little grandkids, too, so i have just been hurting for his folks and his sister)....
there is something very very special about familes... :)
