I didn't speak to a single person yesterday.
No one knocked.
No one called.
I went nowhere.
I called no one.
The world went chooglin' by on the internet.
No one stopped in, ethereally, either.
I can't say I noticed until now.
But we always notice that kind of thing.
The trick is to do nothing, say nothing, reveal nothing.
I haven't learned that one yet.

We have been churned used and abused by several Non providers of band width

Comfertized? Not a surprise,

Comfertized, the sharpe limestone smoothed, so that it climbs 'well'.
This is not a big deal; considered in line with the ethics in the area.
The edges & insides of the pockets have razor sharpe serrations,

She was bonking from lack of energy and found only a small, hand-out
size packet of Starburst candies in her pack. She ate a red one,
and sent immediately afterwards.
For months afterward, she did not go to a crag without bag of Starbursts,
She would eat a red one before a serious redpoint attempt as a good luck charm.
After her ascent, the local boyz murmured, of downgrading it from 5.13c That was not to be.
Steph's ascent is still impressive, as it was at the time; It made the news in the mags.

up "Infectious Booty".

when she was also visiting Mt. Charleston.

she redpointed "Soul train" 5.13d/8b and then clinched
"Ghetto boys"
and "Screaming target" (second go)
Both are graded 5.13c/8a+.

Valentines Day, Veterans Day, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Halloween, Thanksgiving, PRESIDENTS DAY, MLK Day, the 4th, Easter...all holidays are "contrived."
Not everyone celebrates every holiday, but given incentive, the ladies of the house will deck the halls every time, though there are a few curmudgeonly families who refuse to JOIN THE FUN!
And that's what celebration is supposed to be: FUN!
Things like making Valentines, costumes, cookies, fruitcakes, wrapping packages, SHOPPING, all these are activities the children love to partake in and SHARE. And they provide memories for later life.
Sure, a few children in a class will not receive as many valentines as other, more popular kids, but it teaches us, it prepares us, and maybe makes us try harder to be nice to others.
Similar cases may be made for virtually any holiday--the candy of halloween, the Christmas presents, the egg hunts, etc.
Growing up I had a family to share these things with. As a father, I had to celebrate these mostly alone, as I did not have custody of my child. I missed out and of course regret that.
But Bevin had a mom who did celebrate holidays and so she did not miss out on these days.
I grant you, Gnome, that there is a tendency to get carried away by some folks, especially with CHRISTMAS LIGHTS up till mid-February or not taken down all year long, many times; or buying a kid more presents than he'll ever have time to play with; or not restricting the amount of candy a kid is allowed--stuff's not healthy, in general, and has little nutritional use.
It's when a holiday really means something to someone that it is any kind of special, more readily and truly celebrated than merely observed. The day we call VE-Day means a whole lot more to folks who lived through the war than it does to their grandchildren, for instance.

Life Is Beautiful is one of those films that I wish everyone could see.
It introduced me to The Barcarole (Boat Song) by Offenbach. Every time this is played I think of Liz because I watched it in '98, the year she passed, and I recall how bittersweet the work sounded and regretted that she could not share it with me.

Sir:
The return of the sun, after its autumnal falling away, has long been a time of celebration, usurped by some religions and incorporated into their calendar. Yet the sun still returns, and each human can celebrate the return in their own way. I prefer making snow angels, igloos, and winter camps with a knife and fire.
When the hungry spring is upon us, we gather and sing for the return of Birdwoman, the bringer of fresh eggs to ease our slump in winter foraging efficacy.
At the high sun, we celebrate the growth of life around us, and in autumn, we celebrate the hunt and harvest, and give thanks to the animals who feed us, clothe us, shelter us, and sustain us.
We give thanks to the continuing fertility of Earth, and celebrate the cycles of lives that lead to beautiful fullness in their own time. And we look to the stars to know the journey of Earth, and we also celebrate the stars in their places in the sky. :) May this give you a more joyful perspective on celebrations.
Of course, one can argue with the concept of holidays, or be more realistic in this materialist culture, and simply say to paraphrase the Eagles, "you can spend all your time making money, you can spend all your joy making time." We humans celebrate because we have survived, and we gather in gratitude and celebration, in joy and renewal, to share our joy. Same with births, weddings, graduations, things like that, yes? Some humans spend on stuff because they find it easier than sharing pure joy. Weird, isn't it?
So, just join in for the fun of it all, not the materialism. Its a good human game. :)

and some who are lone ers and lonely have to deal with insincere gifted things that remind them of their plight,

That I lost an hour long well though jet ioufgdcchtdyrxe X can't. J
I said this way better.
But it is now very late,,,,, not making excuses I do sweet little nothing's for my girls all the time I do not need a special day, and many boy friends ....

Sorry again gang but it is belittling to some confusing, and high lites the plight of lone ness...

From the Gunks to Carlsbad Caverns in 4/10ths of a second.
And back in time to 1976 to be with the anti-hero Rohrer and his intrepid band of Gollumites as they unlock the mysteries of the dark and deep.
Rohrer showed me this clipping three years ago, just the day after he completed his 24th consecutive running of the LA Marathon.

I always enjoy photos of rocks and gnomes, with at least one craggy cave troll that I recall.
