One of my poor dogs had to pee last night and I slept too deep to hear her and let her out...I've been washing and drying rugs all day.

A story to cheer ...and nearly non-fiction.

The Lab Who Wouldn't Swim

Once had this dog oh some years back
The handsomest boy to be sure
'Could never get that dog to swim
Though Labrador whose breed was pure

I took the dog down to the lake
He whined and paced but wouldn't go
And took his ball and threw it in
Why he wouldn't swim I did not know

I picked him up and waded forth
And slowly waded in some more
He swam in circles a 'whimpering
Then scratched me up and swam to shore

He shook a while and ran down shore
Sniffing about he found some sh#t
He took a bite and nibbled some
And rolled in what was left of it

I tried to call him to the lake
He rolled around in poop some more
When I tried dragging him away
He ran and jumped into my car

He rolled 'round in the front seat
He rolled 'round in the back
I had to bundle him all up
And then I stuffed him in a sack

I took him home and tied him up
I hosed him down and washed the pup
I scrubbed the car seats after that
When I was done then I threw up

Next day we hit the lake again
I thought I'd give another go
I thought that this time he might swim
Into the shallows he stepped slow

And proceeded to take a massive dump
In frozen horror I heard kersplatt
A family swam not far away
I scooped the floaters in my hat

I stepped to shore to witness there
Bikini clad a buxom maid
With thoughts to hide my hairless head
I put my hat back on my head

Nothing could hide my crimson grin
I swiftly tipped my soiled lid
'How do" a silent greeting said
I called my pup and then I fled

Back at the faucet by the head
I scrubbed the crap out from my hair
With doggy tied to bumper square
He sat so proudly as he stared

On occasion we would spy a lake
From time to time as we would walk
In silence he would question me
In silence I'd reply 'We've talked"

Sometimes I'm slow to sort things out
It really wasn't all that grim
While some dogs bark when children shout
My labrador would never swim

So my buddy up there above (#33) was arrested for public drunkeness. They put a 23 year old, 6' 5", 240 pound drug abuser in the cell with him who proceeded to beat and stomp him to death. He was 69 and yeah he was an alcoholic.

The sheeit that used to work, it won' work now?

"Sunset Within Us"
by Rachel

People are just as lovely
as sunsets.

Beautiful hues of pink,
will seep from their pores.
Astonishing shades of orange,
may flow from their hands.
Purple and blues
slide from their eyes.

You just have to be watching
at all the right times.

Anagnostopoulos, the voice of the silent jamority

often characterized as Nixon's "hatchet man" when defending administration policy on the Vietnam War
the second Vice President in United States history to resign,
the other being John C. Calhoun,
and the only one to do so because of criminal charges
paid the state of Maryland nearly $270,000 as a result of a civil suit that stemmed from bribery allegations
widely considered by historians to be among the worst Vice Presidents in the history of the United States

Buckley was not my cuppa tea back then.

Mama always said not to talk

I'll make sure all three, get a nod,

In case anyone is watching, let's see how this goes

Old politics will seem trite

when the bomb goes off

I hope, or not ( a throw away line let's see what else I got)

That the Donald or the Billheries

are in on it with the Brooklyn born socialist ....Now from Vermont

(.here I'd like to Chanel the Nugent guy or maybe not, )
(in his defense, they kilt that rabble rouser for stopping trade at the temple )
(in the year one, did they not?... The Chosen ones - yeah right?)

or all three of them A 'ole bushes

it seems to me they are all Liars to the 'enth degree

so if you vote for any one you just might just get to see

North Korean dumb dumb bombs

crossing the Washington state coast line

and the DC brand of humor stand up and blame the French,
or maybe we will finally bomb Russia just because,

or maybe it'll be some forsaken strip of sand,
China ? Seems like a target there're or three

I do not know or care how about you ? Ho, man

What about the chirlren'?
the children that got this world
mine and yours and theirs ,

They will no doubt curse us all,
no matter if we use the bombs or not

'cause of the lack of education
that we made sure they got ,

it is no worrys, it's all good

anyway by then they will have legalized the pot

we won't have a kettle to piss in

and every where will be to hot

No ending have I got

Well yes I do but we aren't ever going to Mars

If we could go back ? To the rock

Closest to us

Some one would

Just like f there was intelligent
life out there in the cosmos

It would be
as it is
Staying away from us

By agreement I can not share very much,

it defeats the purpose

It is city where we dwell ,

not far enough from hell,

Is there anywhere ?

but that's neither here nor there

The dog that we rescued from hell in a flooding box

Is a real box dog the training , what she got

did not extend to house broken

Just broken , it breaks your hart

a sweet thing but ruined from

Having been forced to bear to early

and maybe more than once

As well, it seems

Her heads been stove in,

And she may not see or smell so well because of it,

But it is the pooping and the peeing that

Needs to be addressed she will

Cop a squat in the wink of an eye

and not have shown any sign

of needing to go out

I only wish I'd met the man in my days up and around the leap. I think we might have enjoyed sharing a rope and some conversation. I do wish to see his words adorning this site one day again soon and wish him all the best.

Norwegian

I wonder where the man has gone
Who's poetry oft' a thing of woe
A chronology of misery
But it slayed to the bone
As the heart would read his pain

That guy is a natural
Where did he go?
Appreciated by many
His every nuanced proposition
And sad commentary
On the human
Condition

I gave him nine or ten at times
Though his aspirations
To drink his way out of purgatory
Rated two on my scale
But I'm no fan of remaining
In the low survival zone

Still he swept the ranks
As a poet child with heart
Somehow wounded at the outset
Setting his own prospects grim
I think I owe him some
For his raw inspiration

He climbs with love for solitude
A victim of the wide
And wrenching loyalty
To kith and kin but sorrow for
His love affair with drink
A woodsman ah

I speak no ill of the man
Who am I to judge
Or place under a microscope
I only miss and love
His way with words and penchant for
The off hand whetted verse

Mike's nearly blind.
He's a martial arts teacher.
He had a weight problem so he had his stomach stapled.
He doesn't ever want to go back to being unfit.
He's as opinionated as they come.
He's a crusty sort, but not a curmudgeon.
He has the perfect job, he feels.

Nice Valentines, Mouse! I am smiling.
ff

bu
shaman, I miss Norwegian's elegant word smithing as well. That man had a meaningful way of structuring a group of words. I hope he is doing some healing and will return when he is more centered in his spirit. :)

Centering is such a job of constant tweaking for each of us, I think. And I think Norwegian will return when it is the right time. Things usually happen that way. :)

I now return to reading Doig's The Whistling Season for the second time. It is a delightful human comedy, laid out along the HiLine of Montana shortly after Sputnik. Another one of those brilliant word smithing chaps. Ivan Doig, RIP.

I hope everyone had a beautiful day, sharing love and smiling at the love all around you.

YES, THE FISH MUSIC

A trout-colored wind blows
through my eyes, through my fingers,
and I remember how the trout
used to hide from the dinosaurs
when they came to drink at the river.
The trout hid in subways, castles,
and automobiles. They waited patiently for the dinosaurs to go away.

THE BAIT

Come live with me, and be my love,
And we will some new pleasures prove
Of golden sands, and crystal brooks,
With silken lines, and silver hooks.

There will the river whispering run
Warm'd by thy eyes, more than the sun;
And there the 'enamour'd fish will stay,
Begging themselves they may betray.

When thou wilt swim in that live bath,
Each fish, which every channel hath,
Will amorously to thee swim,
Gladder to catch thee, than thou him.

If thou, to be so seen, be'st loth,
By sun or moon, thou dark'nest both,
And if myself have leave to see,
I need not their light having thee.

Let others freeze with angling reeds,
And cut their legs with shells and weeds,
Or treacherously poor fish beset,
With strangling snare, or windowy net.

Let coarse bold hands from slimy nest
The bedded fish in banks out-wrest;
Or curious traitors, sleeve-silk flies,
Bewitch poor fishes' wand'ring eyes.

For thee, thou need'st no such deceit,
For thou thyself art thine own bait:
That fish, that is not catch'd thereby,
Alas, is wiser far than I.

--John Donne
