Our pit crew is pitiful with tire changes and oil changes.
It is fairly good with life changes, but only with the right music to motivate them.

Y'all of course remember when Bippin and Boppin got famous, right?
motorpsycho rocker take II
Down at the juke joint me and the boys were stompin'
Bippin' an a boppin', telling a dirty joke or two
In walked this chick and I knew she was up to something
I kissed her right there out of the blue
I said "Hey baby, meet me I'm a tough guy"
Got my cycle outside, you wanna try?
She just looked at me and rolled them big eyes
And said "Ooh I'd do anything for you 'cause you're a rocker"

The Taco's own Thin Lizzie, an original and beloved by the Lord.On her behalf, since this IS Sunday, and because we flames aren't out at the drags burning rubber off our tires, nor are we at the crags burning rubber off the soles of our climbing shoes, it behooves us to recall another jail-break--one which freed the apostle Peter to go free US, in turn, from Satan's grip.
Text is Acts 5:18-20.
"They laid hands on the apostles and put them in a public jail.
But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the gates of the prison, and taking them out he said,
"Go, stand and speak to the people in the temple the whole message of this Life."…
An impromptu sermon from the bottom of the talus pile, so to speak. No need to spray from a mountain top. None of you are up there, you're here. It's cooler down here in the edge of the forest anyway.
I've known Jesus most of my life, promised Him this and that, over and over, time after time, ad nauseum.
I've known neebee just a little under three years. I think the effect she has had on my life is like the effect Jesus had on the apostles, an unruly gang if I've ever seen one.
But they were human and predictable. They needed a strong leader, an example of faith in providence, God's mercy, and faithful love.
neebee has been that for me, with her example and her prayers, and maybe for some of you.
I'm probably lots happier than I can remember being, with few exceptions, in that whole lifetime of accepting and ignoring Jesus.
And I'm past being afraid of what others may think of me for speaking up.
This is not a religion thread--it's a car thread, and a music thread, and when the urge comes on us, a climbing thread, all bound together in a ball of small threads.
Here's the skinny on my relationship with Jesus.
I wanted to be a missionary priest at a young age. I wanted to be a father to my child and raise her as a Christian when I first married. I tried Marriage Encounter with my first wife, which didn't do much except make me skeptical when she left. I became a Pseudo-Pentecostal and attended prayer meetings in Oxnard when I worked with my good friend Ike, and when I moved to Merced in '83, I went to church as I felt like it was necessary, which wasn't often.
Then, in '90, I married my own Liz and started worshiping with her family at the local Episcopal church. Then the Lord took back that gift and I began attending the Catholic services on Sunday with my aging parents, which made them glad; but when they passed, I stopped going to mass entirely.
Since I know many of you who now come to the Taco, and many who have gone away from here, too, have had very similar experiences, you can appreciate what I have gone through. It was all preamble to what's going on in my life now.
I'm now happiest when I can turn problems over to the Lord, like neebee does constantly. I considered it a cop-out for a while, but her example and her obvious joy in her faith have given me another go-round in this rodeo, and I mean to stick this horse, come what may. So I'm not copping out when I give troubles over to my friend Jesus. I believe in His power to get things done, in His own way and in His own time.
I keep trying to pray, silently or with others who feel as I do, and that's limited to neebee, because there is no Christian community here with which I care to share things. They tend to put me in a place where they feel safe from the wild boy I can be at times. So I'm happy to go it alone, with some fellowship with neebee now and again.
I'll be 67 this month and it's time I did it right and for good.
Thank you, neebee, and thank you Jesus.
A simple hymn, one of John Fahey's earliest to be recorded.

It means to me that I need not fear the wrong trail, for Christ is all around me, like St. Patrick felt. I will stay on the right trail if I trust in Him and no other.
Now let's have us a skate party.

My son Scott had a big hand in prepping the street and organizing this event, which was to re-introduce Merced to Madre Skateboards, which was here for a time and has come back again. There were ramps and rails set up between the Cinema Cafe/Mainzer theater on the sidewalk. As the crowd gathered, most of them, I could tell, knew some of the skaters who participated. Parents, of course, who were supportive of the activities of these kids with more energy than the average teen. It was cool to see no worries about helmets and pads. And if there were stoners out there, I'd have not been surprised, though there wasn't a shred of evidence of that. It was a blazing day, but the evening was soft and the moon came out full and round.
I was sorta bummed not to have seen Scott's kids, but the parents were too busy to keep an eye on the two boys, Noah and Jake. Little Lizzie and Sophie stayed home, too.
I had a great time and there is another event scheduled sometime soon over on Canal St. Jen didn't know much about it. I'll ask Scott about it when I deliver these to him, along with the dozens of other shots that I made.
I bought a maple-bacon cupcake and came home more tired than the skaters, NOT...such a huge amount of ENERGY!
Gnome tells me he began skating at ten years old as the sport was still in its infancy.
Whaddya think, Throwpie?
Bueno Boarding, succeeded by Madre Skateboards, lowered cars, and "pretty good music," and organized, too! Hard to beat.
Thank you, Scott, for making me aware of this, for being such a good person, and a source of pride for your own madre, Liz Freeman Bermingham, and myself.
Buenos noches de Merced, Taco!

hey there say, mouse...
ahhh, the race-of-live... through our trails, flat and smooth, or rough and hard...
the things we see, the things we learn, the things we conquer...
humbles us, and amazes us...
like the climbers trail, to the top, through all kinds of weather,
and unseen upsets...
like the hikers awe, at the view, sunrises and sunsets...
and the hidden meadows and springs that appear...
yep, me, i NEED the help me jesus for sure...
and the beauty shines down, like after the storm clouds, that move aside,
when the SUN breaks through...
and the AIR is clear... :)

Stephen Dawkins calls God "the cosmic knob twiddler".
As far as skateboard history, the first time I saw a skateboard as a surfboard substitute must have been around 1961. You had to make them, cause as far as we knew you couldn't buy them. Two by fours, shag carpet and steel wheels.

My first skateboard was in 1959. It was a low-budget affair, no shag carpet.
Used to ride at the Junior High school in the evenings. Would be arrested there these days.
Even more interesting is that one can find photos of the place on the internet.
Floyd and Mr. P. even showed up one day. Wasn't 1959.
