Dingus posted Its over-used by anyone short of combat experience, imo. If someone claims patriotism and I find out they are Neverserved? I tune them out with extreme prejudice.
Sorry, but serving in the military is not the only way to demonstrate patriotism.

David Harris went to jail rather than submit to the Vietnam draft. I consider him a patriot.

ANYBODY SEEN A NUMBER INDICATING HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE ACTUALLY VOTED FOR TRUMP SO FAR? Republican turnout so far is 17% of eligible voters so if you figure out how many eligible Republican voters there are in the states that have voted then do then math.
Counting them up could be done. I'll wait for some news guy to do it.
Trump got 481,657 in Michigan

This sounds like combat to me:

I'm sure she isn't the only one.
She was out looking for the enemy. That's her job. It's not like her supply convoy was ambushed, and she was returning rifle fire ( which is also pretty badass )

Interesting link. In fact, the number of Democratic voters, appears to be around the same as the Republicans. A detailed analysis of this, would probably be close to projecting the General. If the General was held now.
Another tidbit, Muslims voting for a Jew.

How'd Trump do in the Michigan Muslim communities?
Some towns in MI have more Muslims than San Bernardino has Hispanics.

Per patriotism.
We should have a national citizen's service. Serve in some self sacrificing capacity to earn the right to vote. Ask not, yada, yada.
Too much sense of entitlement in our pop culture now.

In the film you lifted the line from, "extreme prejudice" was code for killing the referred individual.
I'm not one for name-calling typically but, you're an idiot.

That's right. My definition of patriot is you have to fight.
But who, that's the question.

well, with a lifetime of spine problems and surgeries I was not fit to "serve"
therefore I cannot be viewed as "loving America" or believing that it is the "best"
-------substitute any number of "patriotic" cliches

The word Patriot is so misused now by these so called "Patriot Groups".
They hate the Government and Obama, how can they call themselves Patriots when they are the exact Opposite of one.
Rush Limbaugh and Hannity claim to be Yuge Patriots, what a crock of sh#t, they lie and turn people away from being Patriotic.
For me Patriotism would be paying your taxes w/o complaining!
That's what the Government wants from me, my tax money, so I patriotically give it to them

So what's it take to be a patriot, ...
Darn good question. You say you have to fight, but does that mean you have to try to kill our "enemies?" How about fighting against something that you believe to be anti-patriotic, such as Republican congressmen who will not follow the constitution and vote on a Supreme Court Justice?
I think Gray had it right, fight whom.

The term patriot seems to have been kidnapped by people who think their personal liberties are more important than the common good. It used to be fighting to defend the common good. The common good requires people to put some of their personal desires behind what is good for the majority. This concept seem totally alien to Congress these days.

The patriot question is a good one.
I know for myself and the actions of "my" government in the past few decades that I'm not saluting a flag that represents that.
I think that's manifesting itself as some of the misguided self-proclaimed 'patriots' come forward these days with little direction and occupy empty buildings.
Once there's real pain and fear out there (i.e. the EBT system goes down), things will get very interesting very fast.
Tough call. Easier to go climbing.

So much for the Peace Corps.
I note that you have put forth TWO different definitions of patriotism:
-those who have SERVED
-those who fought
So, is it sufficient to have worn the uniform, or is it necessary to evaluate the individual soldier's record to decide if they were sufficient to have been patriotic?
MANY serve who do not fight...... Essentially all between WWI and II, essentially all NOW, other than a very few.

DMT, you are entitled to your opinion.
My definition is broader, that's all.
I don't think you need to fight, I think you need to serve, particularly if it involves personal sacrifice.
And I agree with others, that a violent act against the gov't or members of the gov't is a treasonous act.

I said what I thought, k-man. What are your thoughts?
I like that you have a solid idea of what a patriot is, and that you stand by your guns on your belief.
I don't think that you have to raise arms to be a patriot (although that can certainly help you become one). Defending the constitution of your county, while risking significant loss (defined whatever way you want), is what I believe defines a patriot.
So, under my belief, Snowden is a patriot because he risked significant loss to blow the whistle on illegal activities being done by our Gov't, actions which undermined the rights of US citizens. (And yeah, I know this can be picked apart, the Bill of Rights isn't exactly part of our constitution.)
As suggested above, fighting a banker's war does not necessarily allow our constitution to thrive, and in some cases might do just the opposite. Getting thrown in jail for refusing to serve in an unjust war, I think that's just as patriotic as dropping an H-bomb on somebody's head.
