Hi Bobby,
We are heading for Cody tomorrow. Lyon is flying in tomorrow too. The Henyon's left for Cody today. This meeting is of course totally in your Honor and we know if you could be there you would.
Yesterday, we hiked to the top of Baker Peak just past Ketchum, Idaho with elvation of 10,000 plus feet. We were leading a bunch of woman who have never completed such things. Not all of them made it to the summit, but for those that did it was empowering. There was a legder at the top hidden beneath the rocks for all the summiters to sign. We dedicated our summit to you and left a prayer for you to HEAL! This ledger dates back to 1992, pretty cool. Anyway, when you are better maybe you can work your strength back and do some training hikes on a humble little peak like Baker. You can sign the ledger and amaze the world once again.
Love Heather and Jake, Hayden and Hilde.

Hey Bob-Meister,

Well, the week-end is coming to an end, but it's been a good one, and it sounds like a lot of your friends have been out and about and doing cool things all around. I'm glad everyone had a good time in Cape Town as well. I also, especially hope that you are resting and building up the strength for your next journey, everyone here is so chuffed that you will soon be closer to all of us.

I talked to Peg again today and she, Lynn and Jim are up in Littleton, which is always a bit of a treat. Nathan, Deirdre and Jacks and Maddie J will be going up later this week, which will be nice. I know they are all thinking of you and send their love. Peg said she is using all her energy to send you positive thoughts, so you make sure you catch them and use them to come back to us soon, OK?

Right, that's all for now, bud, so just rest, get stronger and come back to us real soon, we'll all be waiting for you.

Hug everyone for me,

Saturday June 30th

... Bobby and I will be heading to NYC by air ambulance early Tuesday morning and arriving very early Wed morning. Bobby will then be at Mt. Sinai in the Neurological ICU for his initial assessment in the states. The schedule: the air ambulance crew will be arriving here from the states on Sunday night and need a 24 hour layover rest and time to assess the situation. Then we fly out Tuesday morning with a fuel stop in Dakar. My parents, Mariella and Joe will all be leaving Monday night/ Tue morn, but we'll all eventually be
meeting up in states.

Otherwise, Bobby is stable and doing so well. His shrine at the hospital is growing and the nurses, doctors and people at the lodge where we stay have been an incredible support and become like a small family to us over the last month. This morning we're all hiking up Table Mountain to bring crisp mountain air and sun to Bobby. Hans-Peter and Joe will climb.

I will be in touch with more contact info and addresses soon.

Bob,

As you are aware, I know only too well know the anguish and grief felt when one's son is sudenly stricken by accident or disease.

My family's anxiety was in time lifted through his somewhat miraculous revovery, and I hope with all my heart and soul that you and your family will soon be similarly relieved.

The most recent news seems encouraging and his return to the US can hopefully provide more direction and expertise to a resolution of his condition.

I look forward to future updates and in the meantime send heartfelt good wishes and prayers to you and all your family, Bob.

Hey Bobby,
Well, it sounds like there is a lot of hiking going on today in your honor. Kirt and I and the boys went to Red Lodge and met Todd, Todd's girlfriend, and Kirt's mom and step dad for breakfast at Cafe Regis. Todd and his mom drove through the park and Kirt and I and the boys drove up to East Rosebud and dropped off the truck for the oncoming hike next weekend. We hiked up to Elk Lake. It was an awesome day. The boys are getting really good at those 7 mile jaunts. They don't do too bad for being 4 and 6.
I thought of you again today as we hiked into the majestic wilderness. I think of your upcoming journey and hope that everything goes smoothly as you come back to this side of the pond. We will be waiting anxiously to hear how you fare the ride and, most of all, getting news from not so afar.
Keep up all the good progress and I have no doubt that you will be swinging from the end of a rope somewhere again soon.
To all of these people here that are wishing you well, have a happy 4th and be safe in all that you do. Friends, know that we are thinking of you and wishing you could join us in a little R&R. I am sure we will be talking soon.
Take care,
Janet

Janet talking about taking the boys hiking reminds of a story about Scott B. Sorry Scott, but Bobby has taken his hit of stories- so this is one he can through back at you in the future!

Scott made his first hike into the Thorofare when he was about 6. Since he "wasn't a baby anymore" he thought he could carry as much in his backpack as the rest of us. He kept putting more food, stuffed animals, blankies, etc. into the pack. Mom kept taking things out and Scott would put them back in. Finally, Mom waited until after Scott went to bed to unload his pack. It was a very good thing that she did. Scott abandoned his pack by mile five without the extras he wanted. It didn't help that he had to chase every frog and water snake he saw!

I say that a bunch of us do it again when Bobby is able, we'll see how much Scott can carry then! Between Kirk and Janets' boys, Scott's boy, and my kids we should have plenty of frog and snake catchers.

Dear All,

I hope this email finds everyone happy and well. Your letters, emails and forum messages continue to bring light and humor to our days and they are the source of many an eye flutter and cough from Bobby. Thank you thank you.

My parents, Mariella and Joe will all be leaving Monday night/ Tue morn, but we'll all eventually be meeting up in states, although everyone's schedules differ.

I will have my old phone in the US: 303-883-6734. Please understand that the first few days back will be quite a transition. We will try to be in touch as much as possible, but I imagine the first couple of days will be extremely full. Please do keep the messages and stories coming as they are so important to Bobby (and all of us :-) ). I will continue to read these to my brother every morning, no matter what.

Bobby- It is so wonderful to read all the supportive posts of the friends, family, and acquaintances who's lives you have touched. We are reminded of you and your magnificent talents daily through the photographs you have taken of Jessica. It is through these photos that my children have come to know her and for that we are eternally grateful.
I wanted to share with you and Faith an experience that took place today on our way home from a walk with Jackson (3) and Madison Jessica (20 months). While I realize that Madi J has yet to meet you and Jackson was only 3 months old when you met him, they are, in their own way, sending you their support as well......
We were returning from a walk, when out of the blue, Madi J began to chant "Bobby, Bobby, Bob----by.......Bobby, Bobby, Bob----by." Jackson let her finish, and yelled "Yeah Bobby" and then together they started the chant again, and again, until we reached our house a mile later.
So clearly, you are in all of our thoughts, and prayers as you continue to grow stronger.
Faith, I am continually amazed by your own strength and send you our love, support, and encouragement through this overwhelming time.

Well it's cowboy christmas time in Cody. One of the more hilarious Bobby memories for that time of year ocurred at the old Silver dollar. This was back when the dollar had the volleyball court and the outdoor area. Started looking around for you and couldn't find sign of you inside. Started outside and saw a crowd of disturbed people forming near the exterior wall of the building. They were shouting and pointing at something up above them. twas very loud and crowded, at first couldn't tell what all the comotion was about. Turned around and looked up and there you were. You'd soloed up the side of the sandstone block building about 30 feet or so in your cowboy boots, I think you may have had a beer in your back pocket. Let's just say the mortar between the blocks wasn't exactly "fresh" and your balance just might have been "compromised" by the nights activities, but you were holding strong with a huge conquerer grin on your face. You'd gathered quite an audience some were yelling jump, others looked as if they were about to start crying, most were just dumbfounded. It's not easy to be the life of the party at the dollar on the 4th but you managed it in classic BoMo style. Well, since you won't be scaling the dollar this year,
I guess sponge baths in NYC will have to do--
heal up man
so many prayers for your journey, for your noggin, for your family and friends

Faith, I'll be on standby and ready to get up to NYC as soon as the support team needs respite from the bench! In the meantime, in case your email is overwhelmed with messages I wanted to post part of a note I emailed for Bobby here to be sure you/he gets it. Peg and I are wrapping our arms around you and your mom right now...

Bobby, it's been nearly three years, and though it's hard to think back on those first weeks after Jessica's accident I was reminded of something just now that applies to you at this moment more than ever: emotional pain is almost always more challenging to cope with than physical pain. You have been brought to your emotional core before through the deaths of both Jess and Todd, and you came through those experiences pulling the light from both of them and adding it to your own. Although I have never met Mariella I am quite certain of this - you are surrounded by four angels right now. Jessica is sitting on your shoulder as a guardian angel and your mom, Faith and Mariella are at your bedside as ever vigilant real life angels. These four women are sending you their love and watchfulness and have your heart held tightly by their love. And though you may be traveling between the physical world and a space most of us do not know, the fact that your heart and your emotional self is being so closely guarded by these women gives me complete confidence that you and the medical staff will tackle the physical elements and return your health.

Though you are in a hospital, the air surrounding you is filled with love. From what Faith reports, you have captured the hearts of the hospital staff, and I can tell you first hand that when a nurse is touched by a patient, and when the entire nursing staff is touched by a patient, the love infused into the care of that patient is tremendous. While the tubes and bags and drips and medicine can seem impersonal and technical, they are set up and maintained by humans with big hearts, and in that sense even these most impersonal of objects are channels of love and healing energy for you. Have a safe trip across the pond and know there will be an equally loving community here to take over your care. - Abby & Jeremy (& Peso and & in utero Bobby cheerleader)

Okay Model, it's time to bring out the big guns. I was hoping not to have to use this on you, but you leave me no choice. There are two words that are sure to conjure a strong reaction outta you and I have been keeping them in reserve for selfish reasons. Those two words are:

Peanut Butter Pasta

(Yes, I know that is three words, but I say it as an homage to our friend Todd who undoubtedly would have held up two fingers as he said those three words)

So what are my selfish reasons for not saying this earlier? Well, if anything good was to come out of this incident I was hoping that you would forget your hatred of that infamous recipe and my prankish actions towards you. So in the quest for your speedy recovery, I will remind you of the details and once again beg your forgiveness.

It all started down in ol’ El Paso, Texas with our cook/organic-chemist, Kirk Billings, who claimed to have found this recipe for Peanut Butter Pasta in a real cookbook. I suspect he just made it up one day when he forgot to go to town for groceries and threw together whatever he had in the cupboard and fridge. If anyone is interested I think the ingredients are spaghetti, PB, garlic, soy sauce, probably some of the black stuff that grows in the back of the fridge’s veggie compartment, maybe fish sauce or fish heads and flippers, and some secret ingredient that only an organic chemist would know about. So believe it or not, the damned stuff actually tasted great and we, you included, ate it fairly often throughout the winter at Hueco Tanks. So far, so good.

Then you go off to Pakistan and install yourself on the Nameless Tower for what must have felt like a year and a half, and on the expedition menu is Peanut Butter Pasta. Through the magic of micro-biology, viral hitch-hiking, or accidentally omitting the organic-chemist’s secret ingredient you got sick after eating the Peanut Butter Pasta and blew chunks all over the Baltoro Glacier. Declaring it the foulest thing on the planet you swore you would never eat it again, and for years after even the mention of the name caused you to physically shutter. Which is why, a couple of years later when Kirk had made Peanut Butter Pasta at the Hueco training camp, I came up with an ingenious idea:

“Hey Kirk, let’s FedEx some of the leftovers to Model!”

Obviously, Kirk thought this was a brilliant idea and we tossed a generous serving into a Ziplock bag. But being cheapskate dirtbags we decided that couriers cost too much and went with the cheaper and slower alternative, the US Postal Service. So after a week of festering in various mailboxes, mail trucks, and postman shoulder bags, our package arrives at your door. I’m certain you were excited that we had sent you a nice gift and I pictured you quickly ripping open the package, only to discover not just your most hated of food-like products, but something that had become a rotting and moldy sack of Satan’s own sputum. You claimed to not have gotten sick, but that the incident had brought back horrible memories and further deepened your hatred of Peanut Butter Pasta. Not to pat myself too hard on the back, but at that time I called it a job well done. Now I feel bad about it all, and have to ask for your forgiveness for bringing it up again. If we’re looking for things that might get a strong reaction out of you, I thought that Peanut Butter Pasta just might get the job done.

So it’s up to you Bobby, swim to the surface and get you head above the water or I’ll have Kirk whip you up a heapin’ helpin’ of the nasty stuff.

Be strong Buddy, we all need you back.

Cheers,
Scott and Sandra
