Single payer is the goal and it's where we LIBTARDS continue to aim... I'm all in on single payer. I'm happy to pay a little more in taxes so everyone gets help. Many people, Dem's and Rep's want this. CFry...this is fact. Stop hating... l0l
Obamacare was/(is) only the start... It's nothing but a dead-end. Obama legacy B.S. The uber-rich in the Dem party weren't able to cut the lobbyist money cord and punted = ACA. You love Pelosi/Reid no?
If the foolish ReSNUBlicans would open their fuked up eyes and get on board we could actually see to it that ALL Americans were in fact COVERED... I don't disagree. But, they have a 'chance' to fix it. I hope they do. I'm doubtful. Puntfest. #congre$$# = sh$$t

Ain't going to happen...ever. This is a sinful and imperfect world. There will always be misery and suffering somewhere.
But, since you've got yourself a good life, you can safely say: "F*#k them."
That's what Jesus would have said, right?

No matter what I say, your side always comes back to the government as the only option.
Jody, I'm not on any "side". I'm not a liberal or a conservative. Or maybe I'm sometimes one and sometimes the other. For that matter, I'm not even American. Which, maybe, gives me a perspective on this that you lack.
As far as I can tell, you believe that government has no place in helping people in trouble. And yet, were your house to be broken into, or your daughter kidnapped, I doubt you'd have any trouble calling the police. And I don't think you want the entire US military to be disbanded because it is government funded.
So it's not a yes/no question. Government involvement in anything can be good or bad, and I don't understand why you are so adamant that any government support for those in need is "bad."
You seem to be reasonably well off, but how would you fare if you (or your wife or child) was hit with medical bills in the hundreds of thousands? If you can answer "I'd be fine", then my guess is that you've got some form of government-backed insurance.
Or, maybe not. I don't know.
What I do know is that you seem unwilling to discuss this in an open-minded manner. Again, maybe I'm wrong, but what I read in your posts is: "I got mine, so f*#k you."
Am I wrong?

So how do I communicate with you Jody since you twist every single thing that I say?
I do not and have never said that government is the "only" answer. It is part of the answer. How can we have a Godly country if our government ignores the poor? This country was founded on the belief that we had government of the people, for the people and by the people. I fully believe that God is the answer, yet I must also work with what is available. Many people in this country do not believe in God, and many of those who do believe have mixed and sometimes false beliefs about God. Do I just give up on government? You worked for government. So government must be able to supply some answers. Yes, the bible says that the poor will always be with us, so I must work not only through churches, but also through our government. If you ignore that resource, then you miss a lot of opportunity.
How you can take that to mean that I believe in "only" government. I do not know. Or how you can take that to mean that I believe that people should NOT have a level of self sufficiency, I do not know. Of course people need to develop a level of self sufficiency. To each, according to their ability. If you did away with all government help, then the churches would be overwhelmed. There is no doubt of that. Is that your answer?

The Republicans succeed in gutting your pension?

I'm curious how our more religious brethren on Supertopo reconcile this priest's view (which largely leans on the expositions of Pope Francis) with the present vision and strategy of the Republican party:
http://www.tikkun.org/nextgen/a-priestly-letter-to-speaker-paul-ryan-from-rev-dr-matthew-fox
I received the letter in an email from a friend, and just googled to find this online link to share here.
I'm not trying to be inflammatory in any way (other than fanning the fires of personal reflection), and I honestly want to understand how different and conflicting spiritual and material priorities settle for you.

If I may- Love and compassion are fine and all but those emotions are piss pore motivators to agitate the base.
Hate, fear anger and jealousy really do the trick...look no further than the right wing, Christain haters here on Super Topo.
As a moderate Democrat, I'm with Jgil on single payer.

I don't get this idea where people are SO upset over having their tax money go to help people in need, yet not a peep about how our tax dollars fund the extremely generous health insurance benefits of our politicians, or how our tax dollars buy massive amounts of weapons, or how our tax dollars go to offset the cost of "jobmaker" corporations who hire people at right about min. wage, give people "management" titles to avoid paying overtime, and syphon money away from the local economies they sold the project on as helping.
But OMG if ten dollars of our tax dollars per year goes to help some impoverished parent feed their children....

as if the government and people who held government jobs were the most evil thing on earth.
I have never done such a thing. I respect the police and the need for police. Please stop lumping everyone together simply because you feel attacked. I'm sorry that you have been attacked, but I was not one of them. Most definitely not because of your job. I have challenged you for your beliefs and your actions.

Jody, you unequivocally would never have had employment, or anything to give, if there were no government. It's strange how that simple fact continually eludes you.
In your make believe world of privatized everything, there would only be Lord's and beggars.

Another busy night of political posting & posturing.
It must seem very important,
to you.
sigh.
I would suggest your time might be well spent in posting some notes of respect to the family & friends of Royal Robbins, whose passing is noted in two ST threads today.
February 4, 1935 (West Virginia) - March 13, 2017.

My apologies to any here, who have taken the time to post condolences for a truly iconic climber & climbing standards leader.

So the consensus is that nobody can help themselves, nobody can help others, therefore the government MUST take from people so THEY can help others as they know best. There is no other way.
Exactly the argument for the elimination of YOSAR

I have not seen one GOP'er respond to my repeated concern:
Changing the law so that documented, chronically, mentally unstable people are now empowered to own guns and ammunition.
How does this make us safer????
