covering us in white Cold blankets

weekend shushing,

wobbly knees,

The kidzzees sneezing, snotty noezzees

I'll be too - after many hours of cold Falling snow

we go sledding , visiting together in the cathedral in the woods

It's why we live here, love most the hills of joy ~

When all frosty slippery we go go go

go or no? Of course,

I'll go alone - if they whimp out

mid-night trappin' full moon camp-in'

With the camera, kno dought.

The rain is drying out with the sun's emergence.

It's grateful I am for this lucky convergence.

There are no waiting banks of snow to shovel

While digging out from my snow-bound hovel.

And my heart goes out to those whose fate

Is to be stranded on the Interstate...

I hope it's not too long a wait.

How'd you get those railroad tracks to glow? They don't have that in Chatanooga.

OGGA horn, circa the old daze. Could scare a spider half to death.

There's a decision for ya, you're half way there should you turn around?

Stopping in for a bit of warming here around the flames as I sip my local coffee shop coffee here in the warmth of the coffee house.
-4F up here in Fairbanks, and a moose in the yard this morning.

Wrapping up some things, visiting friends, scooping some snow, and went out to look at the place we used to build the ice towers, which now looks . . . under-utilized compared to the ice tower building days. We had a lot of fun. Not entirely too much fun, for how can one ever do so? But a really good time. I wonder if anyone will revive the winter ice tower game, but doubt that many others would have Doug's drive and discipline to keep them growing. It was fun.

So, Gypsy, I see you are having some lovely white stuff back east and south, and Mouse, I am glad the rain did not turn to snow, and that you have no shoveling to do. Good for you for keeping the snow in the higher elevations. I hope everyone is safe up there. I remember when Doug and I were out there and the grapevine was closed due to snow.

I'm at the local Coffee Roasters, taking a break from driving the slippery roads and high snow berms of winter Fairbanks. At least there are no mosquitoes these winter days. Just Alaska moose, who are slightly larger than the Alaska mosquitoes and easier to see. :) And I am seeing many friends, which is great. "Retired" climbers and some younger climbers, too.

There is a race today: the Chilly Buns mid-winter run. The runner's beards are white globs of ice, hanging off their cheeks and chins, swaying gently. Their faces warm and melt the ice close to their skin, and allow the snow beards to wobble a bit. Funny to watch. They pass just up the road from the house.

I'm headed back to the balmy weather of Montana soon, where it is 39F and showers today.

Stay warm and enjoy the winter. Nice to find everyone here even while I scoot around North America.

Always nice to hear from you ff. Cool (cold?) trip report.

Be sage.

Was supposed to say be safe.

Be safe and sage.

This appears to be the Centennial Valley. If this train ever gets back on the tracks, I'd like to visit there.

Why do so many people die shoveling snow?

Gnome, good luck digging out.

Far better you than me on a shovel.

Hey, I remember how much fun it was watching the folks in Buffalo dig out last winter and thinking how good it felt that it wasn't me digging.

Good times.

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/03/02/2001-2010-was-the-snowiest-decade-on-record/

But let me say in a heartfelt manner that this winter I am equally glad that the AFC Championship Game is being played in Denver, not in Mass.

Go Broncos!

As for "chilly buns", I generally prefer bagels or English muffins.
