I'd prefer a more orthodox president I suppose, but I'd rather have a whack job and the economy buzzing along that a rational, predictable socialist who tanks the economy.

In my working lifetime, starting with the recession of 1974, economic downturns follow Republican administrations like autumn follows summer.

Well you can read the article discussing the events of the 22 recessions since 1900 and get most of the facts.

But you didn't give a citation downtownBrown?

fear:
The basic problem isn't how to pay for 600k in treatments which is patently absurd. The problem is the illusion of free money that creates a 600k bill from 30k of work. The Aca just props up a system that needs to be torn down to the foundation and built again.
Progressive propagandists should be more accurate with numbers.
"creates a 600k bill from 30k of work" phrase is just absurd.

Yes, American healthcare system is expensive, but it's not that expensive.
According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_the_healthcare_systems_in_Canada_and_the_United_States US healthcare expenses as a percent of GDP are about 50% higher than Canadian expenses (15% vs. 10%).

Yes, big pharma (if we exclude pharmaceutical companies that went bankrupt) is profitable, but not that absurd profitable as progressive propagandists want you to believe. According to https://www.bbc.com/news/business-28212223 profitability of big pharmaceutical companies is between 10% and 43%.

I assume that big hospitals have similar profitability.

So even if we implement cost control for big pharma and big hospitals (similar to how utilities are regulated) we can probably bring this $600K bill down to $400K.

Cancer research, cancer drugs and cancer surgeries are expensive.
An idea that the above treatment could have been had for $30K in a "fair" society is just absurd.

BTW, healthcare insurance companies are not that greedy as compared to big pharma and big hospitals. According to https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/five-myths/five-myths-about-health-insurance/2017/06/30/0136f34e-5cd2-11e7-a9f6-7c3296387341_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.70c4d811d74e "A 2010 Congressional Research Service study showed that among large, publicly traded health insurers, profits averaged 3.1 percent of revenue."

fear:
Insurance mathematically should be there for truly catastrophic events, like most all other insurance types. Basic and common procedures should be affordable to working productive people.
Yes, even in the US such catastrophic cases can be covered by federal mandatory insurance.
At the same time "Basic and common procedures" can be covered by out of pocket payments or through private insurance.

anybody still on board with the treasonous lying buffoon at this point is nothing more than a troll and should not be taken seriously.

But they may still be serious in their viewpoints, and still able to vote.

Doesn’t it make sense to try to understand their motivation and explore what is the problem that can be solved a different way?

Emotions and reason are very different things, but I’ve been happy with the results in my own life of using my intellect, expanded by making efforts to understand emotional systems, to help make changes on the emotional front and enable different outcomes than a stubborn intellect alone trying to ignore emotions.

I can’t argue for supporting Trump at all, but I am strongly supportive of remaining engaged with people who for whatever reason or emotion support Trump.

Trump seemed to keep his arm's crossed a lot during his cabinet meeting today,
a very defensive posture, trying to walk back the last few days.

Looked like he was wearing a straight jacket.

I have been on the Topo since 2006 and recognize many of the names here.

When some one like Power crux starts to post I wonder if it is a bot, and there are a few more new posters ..AGT?

From the New York Times:
WASHINGTON — Two weeks before his inauguration, Donald J. Trump was shown highly classified intelligence indicating that President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia had personally ordered complex cyberattacks to sway the 2016 American election.

The evidence included texts and emails from Russian military officers and information gleaned from a top-secret source close to Mr. Putin, who had described to the C.I.A. how the Kremlin decided to execute its campaign of hacking and disinformation.

Mr. Trump sounded grudgingly convinced, according to several people who attended the intelligence briefing. But ever since, Mr. Trump has tried to cloud the very clear findings that he received on Jan. 6, 2017, which his own intelligence leaders have unanimously endorsed.

The shifting narrative underscores the degree to which Mr. Trump regularly picks and chooses intelligence to suit his political purposes. That has never been more clear than this week.

Edited to add: Just askin' WBraun, but why is it always "You Americans"? Don't you have any skin in the game? Maybe you should just leave.

Edited (again) to add: Dingus, you're right re WBraun. My comment above was too harsh. I didn't remove it, but do retract it.

The majority here would do well in Father Charles Coughlin's National Union for Social Justice. So far, you're just as successful.

Trump will continue to lead through 2024 and there ain't a lot you can do about it. Clearer heads prevail.

So, when are you all going to start jumping on the Maria Butina story?

I have a question - What objective would be gained by having her infiltrate the NRA? What's the purpose behind that?

Anyone want to put their money where their mouth is?

I will put up my money to say that Donald Trump does not win the Presidential election in 2020.

Anyone willing to bet that he does, how about you PUD, or Blah Blah, or Cosmc, etc?

You have to be feeling really good about all the wonderful things Donald has been doing for America, right? How loved and respected he is! How any Democrat would lose to his greatness !

How about $5000?
