"why do the Repubs get their people to the polls in mid terms in significantly higher numbers than Democrats?"...
It's demographics not the parties getting the people to the polls.
The GOP has a large proportion of older people who make a point to vote in every election. It's like saying gee, I wonder why this bingo parlor is full of old white people?

It appears some of the partisans here have their rote objections and rhetoric tuned in to refuting the Republican Party line but when someone espouses a call for something other than the continued march of big government and reduced individual liberty, you get all flustered. Then claim troll which seems to be the standard ST replacement for "I don't have an answer, so I'll just call you a troll and feel better about myself"

No. I'm actually just jerking your chain. Seems appropriate.

Personally, I've only decided who I won't vote for. Clinton for her general dishonesty, Cruz because he's controlled by his "fear of god", Sanders because he says what he thinks people want to hear and Rubio because he has no presence.
Trump is scary because of his reactionary attitude but will be much like Shwartzenegger when he landed the California governorship.
Full of ideas that get shut down by the reality of the situation and somewhat level headed administrations, thus limiting his "power" to react.
I'd vote for Werner if he'd run. Sounds like he's a doer.

Trump is like Shwartzenegger? Good god.
For one, Shwartzenegger acknowledges that climate change is caused by humans. In other words, at least Shwartzenegger operated in reality.

Hit me with your next freedom litmus test.
I'll play.
What do you think Khris Kristofferson meant when he wrote "Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose," and how does that equate with your definition of the word "freedom?"
I'm not sure what a "donald Trump type" is but I'm guessing it's anyone with a perspective different than yours. What I meant by "Donald Trump type" is the kind pf person who uses ad hominen attacks, and who responds to debate by obfuscating.
EDIT: I was just looking at Trumps' Twitter feed, and he has another post about how his campaign is self-funded
As has been written by others, he has actually loaned his campaign the money, and it is being repaid out of donations to the campaign. Someone said "yeah but unsolicited donations won't make up what he is spending."
Maybe, maybe not. I have no idea. But what occurred to me is that he will write off any portion of "the loan" that isn't repaid on his 2016 taxes. I would love to see some journalist take up that topic with him....
If he said(which he did, although I am paraphrasing) that his bankruptcies were just a businessman taking advantage of US laws, what in hell would stop him from writing off his presidential campaign costs?????

At what time since 1776 do you believe the entire population of the United States (not just educated, white, christian, heterosexual males) was most free?
Do you honestly believe President Trump will do a single thing to bring us closer to that mythological time?

Norton, I know there's little we agree on but, can you give me a better reason your party currently seems to rally against the GOP only on social media?
well Pud, not being involved in political planning on any level, I don't know
I don't what your point is, are you saying Republicans don't use social media?
no that can't be it, not hard to use and all, lots of it on twitter, face book, etc
or are you talking about the conservative dominance of radio and cable news?

DMT: I hate those 'let's pretend all Americans are stupid' videos. Goddamned liars.
See, this guy went out of his way to make people look stupid. Probably asked hundreds to get those few. He and his viewers have to make other people look bad to make themselves feel good.
Huell Howser went out of his way to make people look good, because that made him and his viewers feel good.

Cruz won in Idontknow. The most Republican state in the U.S., thanks to all the conservative Californicators that have moved here.
Looking at the Idaho map of county voting returns, the east Idaho Mormons voted as a bloc for him.
How strange.
Escopeta will be excited to learn someone that hates America and wants to turn OUR public lands over to private owners, is favored by his brethen.

So I'm reading the book "The Appeal" by John Grisham, and the plot at this point involves corporate interests "replacing" a state Supreme Court Justice who would be unlikely to side with the corporation when a case on appeal is presented to the court. The company is spending large amounts of cash to make sure a "more attractive" judge takes the upcoming election...
But a twist seems to be emerging at the point I am just now reading. For some reason, "the bad guys" have paid off a third person to run in this election. Originally, they told "more attractive" candidate that he would sneak into the race at the last minute and take the incumbent by surprise.
This third guy is a wild card - loud, abrasive, obnoxious. But charming in his way, like a spectacular car crash involving a brawny muscle car being driven hard by an idiot with no respect for it's beauty.
I don't know how the story plays out, but it says he is there as a distraction.
Reading it I thought "Is Trump the third, distracting, guy?" This has, of course been the contention of many already.Mostly that he is there to help Hillary preside in the end.
So...maybe those who have already read "The Appeal" can offer their insight: If our presidential election goes the way the Supreme Court one did in the book, what happens? It won't ruin my enjoyment of the book, as I read more for enjoying the wordsmithing and imagery, and knowing the end or a plot twist won't affect that.

Wow!!!!! I sure ain't votin' for Hillary Obama after this:
"In a bombshell world exclusive, The National ENQUIRER has learned that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s death was a highly planned “political assassination” orchestrated by the CIA and carried out by a $2,000-a-night hooker! A top Washington, D.C. source said the Feb. 13 death of the 79-year-old jurist at a remote Texas ranch just 15 miles from Mexico was part of a “shocking conspiracy that tracks back to the CIA and the White House!"

Jim posted Why no one is going for Trump's throat over being a supposed personal bankrupt is because of the 2 basic forms of establishing a business.
People have brought this up over and over again on the stump, in ads and in the debates. Nobody cares.

Show up at the polls?
The world will end and the sky will turn black when Trump is elected. The waters will boil and the winds will stop. The birds will fall and the fish will float. Our skin will fall off and our eyes will implode. The boogie man is coming, get your night lights and your blankies ready.

So you guilt-ridden Calvinists masquerading as deep-thinking iconoclasts seem to think that
filing bankruptcy is a moral failing only one step removed from pederasty. Henry Ford went
bankrupt four or five times before he got it right. And I would think someone who has gone
bankrupt would be eminently suited to run a country that is in hock up to its eyeballs.
