"There's that little jolt of loneliness as you're moving up, but suddenly your gear pops out and goes zipping off down the rope."
Good one Chiloe!
Been there...

Great photo and come back Tarbaby!
Chiloe--I was so busy admiring Leslie's fushia top, the neon blue rope and those spectacular fall colors you captured that, unlike eagle-eye Wootles, I didn't even notice the popped piece of gear at the top of the shot.
Never fails to wake a person up, does it? I love it!

Sure dig that cowboy hat, Roy.
Reminds me of my roots back on the farm in TX.
Prolly makes a good helmut, too.
Are those fancy stretch wicking water resistant britches you're wearing? I thought you couldn't climb hard w/o fancy pants?
:)

To season all these sharp, colorful modern CLIMBING photos, I'll toss in a couple of fuzzy dark ones from the wayback machine.
Originals, no doubt better quality but long lost to me, were maybe shot by Bob Wright?
This would be Mike Munger and me making what we believed was the 3rd ascent of the Kor-Boggs route on the Matron, 1972.
Maybe Oli knows more history? It was rated "A4 or A5" in his guidebook, so that felt a bit adventurous to us.
Hey, small cliffs were much larger way back then.

well, i wouldn't bother with this one, but I finally got through
the thread with supertopian portraits and in there was dirtineye
at Yonah Mt Georgia. Haven't been there in 30 years I bet. Here is
climb #1. I think my brother is wearing a Patagonia Guide sweater.
What are my chances in the patagoniac photo contest?
The army rangers used to train there and they painted route numbers
on the rock. Jstan - the rumor was that you had put up a few lines
through the big overhangs in the middle of the main cliff. That
true?
