Yay to the ref for booking people for diving. The Di Maria one was close. The Janusaz dive was terrible, frankly a player should get a red and a ban for that.
DeGea was great. One of the top couple keepers in the world now. Without him this season MU would be in the bottom half of the table.

Bwahahaha, Chelsea! Can't beat a team playing with 10? Oh and Zlatan was shown the red on total bullsh#t. Wasn't even a yellow. So Chelsea has gotta be the most boring team to watch. Go PSG! Hopefully they have another look at that red and let the God play next round. Never liked Luiz, until he elbowed Costa. Lol. What a game.
Bayern got lucky with a questionable red, but we all know they would have routed them anyways.
Porto goals were bad ass.
Real is looking shakey.

It's weird, I can't make myself pick a team to root for in the BPL or the Champions League. Heck with Alonso, I'm not even rooting against Bayern München. I'm still trying to formulate an allegiance to a BPL team. Maybe Everton 'cause the Chang elephants logo is as close as I can get, but they are having a bad season. A good friend is an Arsenal fan, but their sense of entitlement bugs me. I like the Rooster of Tottenham, and what's not to love about the Throstles.
So there are other games going on. I have to admit that the Sounders are as close to my team as any out there. But MSL just isn't as good. Maybe there are a few players in the MSL that are comparable, but there is a vast gulf between MSL team play and any of the European+Turkey+Russia+African teams. No news there.
What's been interesting to me is catching the women's Algarve Cup games. It's such a different game. To me, in contrast to the MSL, it looks every bit as good play as the good Eruopean+ teams. I'm not saying the women's national teams in the the Algarve Cup could beat the European+ teams, but I love the distinct way the women's teams seem to cover the field.

Blasted, recorded the game but because it went into extra time I missed the last 10 minutes of the PSG Chelsea game. Wow, have not watched PSG this year but damn they played an incredible game. The ref lost control of the game at times and missed some calls. My dislike of Side Show David Luiz is overshadowed by my utter hatred for Diego Costa. With only 10 men PSG frustrated Chelsea all night. Loved it.

Zlatan said,
'I had Chelsea babies around me'
"When I got the red card all the Chelsea players come around," he said.
"It felt like I had a lot of babies around me." Lol. Nine players crying to the ref.

Say no more.
One game is soccer, the other is hockey.
Re. Chelsea.... I thought the team's perfonmance/loss really reflected Morihno's style. Tactical, as they had the goal in hand. And whining for a red, with hopes of winning against 10. Lacking spirit to score, and win.
After the game, he took no responsibility for the loss.
He "Orchestrated" it imo.
Oh, and Darwin, I know how you feel about picking a team. I've tried for years. More about the teams you DON'T want to win. (Liverpool w/ Suarez?) I think I finally settled on Swansea... I think. (to support)

Well the only thing I'm sure of is PSG is all but done. Three away goals kills them.
The battle of Madrid continues. Real was making Atletico look bad for most the game but couldn't get the ball into the net. Love watching these two teams play each other. Hoping Real can beat them, they are definitely overdue.
Hats off to Porto, sure Bayern made some really bad mistakes on defense, but without the constant pressure from the Portugal side, they wouldn't of happened. It's going to be a big challenge for Bayern, but they still can do it. I'm a little doubtful though. They picked a bad time (all year really) to have so many injuries and that team last night looked like they can't score. The only real positive is Neuer somehow escaped with a yellow.
Monaco continues to impress me. I thought Juve would make them look bad as I did with The Arsenal. Monaco could have won that game and the pk was the difference.

So imagine my great joy to find I could watch me Barsas on the plane to Chicago yesterday!
Porto's fer real!
Lionel had the bit between his teeth and Luis had nothing in his. Mascherano and Pique
were monsters of rock. Give the cup to Barsa!

Well, Real was Franco's team, now it is the team of billionaires, like most of the other big clubs.
I was in the Camp Nou (Nou Camp) for the Italy versus Poland semi-final match, World Cup 1982, awesome stadium. Also at the West Germany versus France semi-final in Seville. I was near the end of the pitch (in the stands of course) 'above' the German goal, when Schumacher assaulted Battiston. France were cheated, best team in the tournament, except for a hot Paolo Rossi (coming off of a two-year ban).
I have supported Celtic since 1969 (why not they had won the European Cup a couple of years earlier, Irish on my mother's side, Scottish on my father's… did not learn about the Old Firm sectarianism for some years, disgusting, on both sides, perhaps Ranger a bit more, but I am showing my bias).
Tough thing to do, as back then, none of the US media really carried football results. In 1972 I turned 16, got my driver's licence and was able to drive over to San Francisco to one of the Irish pubs to get results. Now you can be on the moon and get results with the internet. (I played one season semi-pro with San Francisco Celtic).
After 1982, Barcelona became my second team, especially since I despised Franco and Real Madrid (why do you think they won so much during his "reign", just look at the di Stéfano affair).
Living in England as a journalist (1986-1993) I chose Manchester United as my third team, they were not winning anything but they had some good Irish and Scottish players, and is purported to be the only English club to fly the Irish Tricolour and St Andrew's Cross over the stadium.
And then there was George Best of course (a Utd legend). Pele reckons he was the best, though Messi may take that mantle. I saw him play for San Jose Earthquakes a couple of times. I had a soccer buddy, Mike Simon, that I used to play with in some East Bay leagues, he played with Best (briefly) with the Earthquakes, Mike said George Best was awesome. Shame about his alcoholism.
A former colleage and a friend of mine here in Ireland, Martin (Man U supporter), he says I am fickle supporting more than one team. I SUPPORT Celtic, I FOLLOW Barsa and Man Utd.
Then I reply to Martin, who is friends with Rod Stewart, and so I sing (I am a trained tenor, so yes I can sing)… "You're Celtic, United, but baby I've decided you're the best team I have ever seen" (from You're in My Heart). That shuts Martin's gob up.
This year I predict a final where Barsa beats Juventus.
Oh yes, I do follow an Irish team in the League of Ireland (San Francisco Premier Division is - or was at least - better IMO), as I had a trial with Galway United in 1982. And semi-pro team in England I follow is Harrow Borough, as I played a season (almost) on the reserves. And was among some players trying to revive the Golden Gate Gales (founded and dissolved in 1967, one season in the American Soccer League, ASL), in early 1980s. Nothing came of it.
Climbing is my first love, but I love football.
