Jody appears to be acting as though he is intellectually/morally cornered on this subject. To his credit, I do not know how you could reach a 'freedom' of soul intellectually or morally if you defend the plan.

they give to their churches. They count that as charitable though much of the money goes to support the church and doesn't actually help the poor. If you believe in that, thats fine, but it doesn't mean that conservatives are better. You have preconceived beliefs that are false yet are deeply rooted. Its hard to get you to understand.
Many non believers believe lots of false things about people who believe in God. They see some church do something and they believe that all believers do that. I'm certain that you have experienced that many times. You do the same thing to liberals.
Why would liberals have a social conscience?
That's the government's job.
Its this kind of ugliness that I'm talking about.

my church raised 100 thousand dollars to help pay for a friends health care after an accident. They also feed and clothe the poor and help in other ways.

I just gave one example. there are many others. Please do not misunderstand me, I believe in a national health care program, i.e. single payer insurance for everyone.
