I went bouldering today. 90 F with about 70 humidity.

I stepped on a scale the other day. I've lost 18 pounds since I got here. Some of it is muscle but a good chunk is fat. probably related to the piss water beer over here. that and the India diet where I spent far too much time not eating because I was sick to my stomach. I've not weighed 158 in a couple years.

Hell yeah!

that's what I'm talking about!

I'll drink (piss) to that!

and you know what they say in India....

Piss in, Piss out.

or maybe it's...

Dal in, Dal out.

Edit: Dal in, Piss out?

Gorgeous, sunny day Saturday. Last day of ski school, and an instructor clinic. Surprisingly, I had enough energy to run 3 miles after I got home.

Sunday - endless snow slog with heavy weight on back while pulling a sled. Yes, it was back to raining/snowing again. I'm sure the hardy few I encountered are still shaking their head about that weird sight. Gear is again sprawled all over the kitchen floor to dry.

Back to the gym on Monday. Upper body. Focus on ability to lift a heavy pack. Still got work to do. The five mile run along the waterfront was delightful and DRY. Managed to hit the only dry window of the day.

Lisa,

We refer to plastic bags as cascade gaiters....Good to see that I wasnn't the only woman out in the elements for hours!!

The weather doesn't have to cooperate. I have run in 110 degree heat, -45 degrees below zero, during the eye of a hurricane, and when tornados were shaving the tree tops 200 feet from my house. I will admit that I WOULD have stayed inside for the tornados if I knew the thunderstorm was going to get that ugly. It isn't always the most fun I ever had, but it keeps me in shape to have more fun than other old ladies.

I eat 365 days a year, so I exercise 365 days a year!!

I'm going up late - June 12th. Hope to summit on my birthday. I am taking a guided trip as I have been unable to pull together a solid team by myself. Time is ticking, and I must get up there before......This will be my first trip to Alaska, so the West Buttress will be fine - though I thought about biting off something more. Perhaps I will see you on your victorious descent. In all likelihood, you will be taking off as I land on the glacier. I'll be the only woman with a group of Aussie's with AAI. How about you?

Seamstress, I will be leaving from SF May 24th..I been climbing/hiking/mountaineering for just over a year (but heavily!) and it will be our first trip to Alaska, so also West Buttress is a prime goal, but unguided. My friend and I are hoping to attempt the West Rib after. We gonna stash some screws, light tent, etc at 8K and hope to go as light and fast as possible. Hope to do whole rib in no more than 3 days (since we will be acclimated by than) after we camp in the valley of death (if we have enough energy for it all after West Butt, which I doubt, but hope we do). Enjoy your trip, maybe I will see you there at some point.

No real aerobic work for me, been moving house. But still got my hangboard workouts in. Back at it today after work.

Speaking of weight, just rounding into fighting shape right about now. Put on 5lb after starting the new job (I blame the cheap greasy almond cookies from the asian market), got about 3.5 of it back off. Right on schedule to peak end of May/early June.

Ha ha, Seamstress, I will remember to use that term in future.
Shivering burns calories!

No shivering today though - 78F and sunny in Central Park. Ran with my club - we did an ascending ladder - 250m, 500m, 750m with brief rests between - three times. That is 4,500m (2.4 miles) running as fast as possible, with the rests to make it bearable.

First run of the year, actually first run since the acl surgery 11 months ago. Ran the ridge around Foresta, beautiful spring green growth coming up around fire burned small trees and shrubs. Felt great. Beautiful day.

Did 3/4 of the Muddy Marathon in NJ today. I did not think I was up for doing the 4th loop within the two-hour time limit. Yes - two hours to do 6.55 miles through swamps, creeks and up and over 3 ridges. The mud was up to mid-thigh in places and only 3 miles were on actual blazed singletrack. It was a blast!!

It's to the horizontal ladder in the playground for this overweight 74 year-old, doing pull-ups, traverses, pathetic levers, etc. Quit climbing since it caused great pain in my shoulder arthritis, but bodyweight exercises are good and give a nice pumped feeling afterwards. Always thought I would abandon those and keep climbing at lower levels, but it turned out the opposite is the case. Go figure, Kerwin. All those small, inflamed muscle groups.
