Dear Bobby,

I just learned about your accident a few days ago, and have been catching up on this blog to the latest in your situation. This accident was terrible beyond words, but the love that surrounds you in the form of your family and friends is incredible. And there is nothing stronger than prayer. Even though you are clear across the world, we are all pulling for you.

Faith, I have been treasuring old memories of times with you too! What hilarious times we had at MCT camp, and reading for the "playreaders" groups back in "Cotay". You are a beautiful woman who, no doubt is helping and supporting everyone else during this time. I pray you can take care of yourself too.

Anne and Jim, you are both a part of my youth as well! My parents have been traveling abroad for a few weeks, which is why I didn't hear about this sooner, but I know they join me in wishing you all the peace of God during this difficult time.

Here's hoping you all come home soon! And that Bobby experiences a miraculous healing TODAY!

Love,

dear bobby, i'm so happy to hear you're getting better. you don't know me, but hi, i'm a 25 year old girl who lives near lake tahoe. i ain't gonna lie i'm sometimes scared to go hiking by myself but last week after reading all these letters from your homies about how you're such a crazy awesome adventurer i did go out to the mountains in the mokolumee wilderness near kirkwood in the sierra nevada and hiked 8 miles all by myself, i hiked cross country and scrambled up some cliffs and sent good thoughts to you and your family from one of the most beautiful spots in the sierra, it looks kind of like the alps. i had the most beautiful day ever and have you to thank for it. thank you for that gift of inspiration, you're beautiful. maybe someday i will meet you in person and can show you all about it, you have a friend in cali always. you sound like a totally amazing person who can pull through anything anywhere, anytime. the daughtry song "going home" your friend posted about is playing right now as i type, i know that's an omen. stay strong.

many blessings to you and your loved ones,

Damn, son. I never thought so many women liked you. You must act differently around them than you do us. Or maybe they think this is a DIFFERENT Bobby Model. It's MOW-DELL, ladies, not MAH-DULL.

I especially liked the part when you opened your eyes while being bathed by a nurse. I'd bet a hundred rupees it was a female nurse, too. Did you say, "Heh, heh...", too?

I think its nice that people are going out climbing and hiking in the mountains and seeing beautiful things and thinking of you. I went out looking at new routes today and thought of you, too. It wasn't so much that it reminded me of our many days climbing, but rather my dog had really bad gas. I guess ALL the senses bring back memories!

I was thinking today of hanging in the portaledges on Ulamertorsuaq and you asking everyone for a pee-bottle but no one wanted to jumar up fifteen feet to your ledge, so you ended up just peeing out the end of the ledge and soaking Todd and Paul's ledge just below you. Ahh BoMo.

Or your 300' free rappel off the massive roofs near the top of the 3000' wall. Sure it made a great photo, but I almost puked just watching you.

Or the fact that you didn't know how to cook spaghetti. (Or was it a ploy to avoid cooking duties forever?)

And the Tillamore Dew. I hate that sh*t, but Mike and I choked a bunch down for you.

I know you will be OK. There are miles to go before you sleep. We still haven't been to Antarctica. Plus, you've never told me why you always roll up just one pant leg...

I know you'll come out of this close shave. I know in my heart your last words will be "Hey...watch this!"

My Man Mo,

I spoke with our friend Nazir at the Indus Motel in Skardu, Northern Pakistan this morning. He, Mahmoud and all of the guys there are praying for you at mosque. He said our kitchen barrels are still upstairs in storage and will be there for us anytime we return. Remember hanging out on the roof of the Indus holding our sat phones up trying to get a signal? Also, Nazir will get word to Ali Kahn and all in Hushe as well as his son Anat Ali, who is still in school in Skardu and doing well thanks to your sponsoring him. Our man Hassan will be arriving in Skardu in a week or so, he is guiding an expedition up the Baltoro somewhere. I believe Nazir said to Trango Tower, but you know how hard it is to understand him trying to communicate over the phone to the loud lobby of the Indus. Hassan will take word to all of our friends in Askoli; Asgar, Asim, Furman and of course Mr Hamsa who is still probably wanting a new sleeping bag and binoculars! Not to mention all of the porters who have come to know and love you from the Braldu to the Bialfo glaciers to the beautiful Gondogoro La.

So the way I see it you have people all over the world, worshipping deities from God to Allah to Buddah to our great Mother Nature, all praying to their divine saviors for your well being and healthy awakening. You have so many looking out for you right now and I am confident in knowing that you will find your way home where we are all anxiously waiting.

I miss you my brother and I am looking forward to seeing you soon.

Peter

More hugs and love to bobby, faith, anne jim, bob and all. i so appreciate the updates and stories, and encouragement from this sight. Bobby, I love reading about your adventures and shenanigans. as one who chased you as a toddler and kid, I am only slightly surprised that the insane amount of energy you had has taken you on such adventures. You all are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. Anne, I have always considered you an honorary (for me) big sister. Faith, i had to chuckle reading the note about MCT camp. You girls could giggle!!! I know the love, respect, you all have for Africa, but to be honest i told Jarod(living in Germany) that no way no how is he to attend world cup soccer there.See you all in cody soon sarah

To Bobby and family,
I just heard of this from my family and want to wish you our prayers and best wishes from Idaho. Bobby I'll never forget your picture in our Senior annual with that Bad Ass sneer on your face!!! You were always one to live on the edge and I know that you will recover from this and continue your ways. Again our prayers are with you and your family.

Bobby, Faith, Austine, Bob and the rest of the family. I just wanted to say that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Although I barely knew Bobby when I was Austine's nanny, I think about your family often, and how kind you all were to me. I will keep you in my thoughts and pray for a quick recovery for Bobby.
Best wishes,

Bobby.... seriously man.... I'm not sure if we have ever met, or perhaps I'm too far gone to remember, or some of each... but I've now looked at your work and seen all these people rooting for you, and it seems you are in pretty high demand. So I'll add my vibes to the batch, and hope that you press the miraculous recovery button real quick here. From what I have read so far in this and other threads, you are wanted back pretty darn bad. Make it happen.

All the best to his support crew too.. you guys are doing great work. Here's to you!

To All of You there with Bobby in South Africa,
We got back to Cody from the UK a couple of days ago and heard the terrible news. We just want to add our thoughts and prayers to the many others. I read every one of the forum notes and know these are a great uplift to you.
Sounds like you are just what Bobby needs around him right now. When he wakes up, he'll want to see all of you.
Hope to see you back in Cody soon which will mean GOOD NEWS.

Dear Bobby
We had a Lucky Lane party last night. You know the scenario - Kirk and Steve lowering my children headfirst into the irrigation ditch, great food, scattered fireworks around Lander ( a warm-up for the 4th). When we got home and settled into bed, Hannah asked for a story about Stumpy Model and I told her the one that started the legend. . . You on the Nameless, fighting it out and even when "your feet blew off" you continued to climb! All the kids love that story and so do I. Here you are fighting it out again. Do your best. We often ask ourselves WWTS (What would Todd say?) The kiddos figured his advice to you would be: Dig Deep. Look Ahead. Follow through.
My love to you, Bobby. You are fortunate to be surrounded by South Africans. I haven't been in the country for 10 years and that community is still taking great care of me.
Love also to Faith, Anne and all the rest of the crew.

Hi Bobby,

This is Kira Salak. I've been thinking about you all the time. My friends and parents and I have been sending you lots of loving energy. You're in my prayers each day.

We had a lot of cool experiences in Libya and Iran--I'm thinking of some more totalitarian countries for us to visit, once you get better. You'll probably end up getting the good camel again!

Hey Bobby, remember in Iran?--all of us crammed into that very small tent with the Armenian vodka?: Damn-it-garm!

Get well soon. I'll be thinking of you, Bobby.

With love and prayers,
Kira

Hey Bob-Meister,

Well, well, well, it sounds like your peeps are doing all they can to try and get you back on this side of the pond, which would be GOOD. no more problems with the time difference, and who knows, maybe we can bribe someone to call you in the room and tell you dirty jokes over the phone - that would surely help with your recovery.... In any event, we all miss you like mad and it will be good to know that you are closer.

Otherwise, not much going on here, I have quite a bit of time ahead of me so I am going to try and sort my photos of Madagascar and check if I can show them at the local Patagucci store (Madagascar is awesome, yet another place you can look forward to going to some day). I may also do something with those of Morocco, though they are not really Patagucci material - maybe at the Moroccan embassy here in Washington. (BTW, these were all taken with the D80 I bought last year: VERY nice!)

All right, all for now, bud, never forget that we are all rooting for you, and waiting for the next email that tells us you have woken up - we're waiting for you, and we'll just keep on waiting.

Hug everyone for me,

Charlotte

Hey Bobby,

Just wanted to let you know that I have been doing some more research about the climbing/photography trip to Boliva that we talked about a couple years ago. The area looks awesome miles of splitter cracks, beautiful weather and amazing peaks. Heal up quick Bobby, there is still lots of exploring to do!!

Howdy Big Bob, Anne, Faith & friends. This is Mark Wilkinson, from the old days up on the Mooncrest Ranch, Cody, WY. I send my heartfelt, most positive prayers & thoughts for Bobby's recovery - and for the family members. I remember Bobby as a little boy who I babysat every once in a while. He'd be in diapers, put his boots & cowboy hat on and go tearing outside and you literally had to chase him down or he'd be headed for the hills. From reading the thoughts by his friends posted on this forum I can see that his big smile & free spirit hasn't deminished. Get well soon brother - we need you here with us.

Hey Bobby,
I was driving down the Greybull Hill about an hour ago and happened to look up and saw this sign at the Carter Mountain Hotel. I thought you might like to see it too. Not exactly sure how to post it but here goes:

BoMo, your convalescence spurred to me to attack our Lander house/climbers ranch project. I couldn't find anything as nice Bison Willy's, but I did find a house that is both well located and cheap:

This is actually the most flattering picture of the place. The inside needs a little work. Actually, the inside makes the refugio in Rio Blanco look like a suite at the Ritz, but it's nothing we can't fix with a couple of Level A hazmat suits and a few hundred gallons of bleach. Or a match and some gasoline.

Anyway, it's close to Steve and stumbling distance from the Lander Bar. There's plenty of room for the both of us and a couple of South African nurses.

Get better.

Bobby, Faith, Bob, Anne, Mona, Austine...

Wow, Bobby is a remarkable man. We've been impressed by his work and now reading all the well wishes and remembrances from his friends....

Life on the Mooncrest is moving along. The cows went up on Rattlesnake yesterday. Lots of grass up there. Moss got a haircut. He's embarassed. (Ron is embarassed for him, too.)

Our prayers are with you, Bobby. Bob, Mona, Anne, if there is anything we can do....you know where we are.

Hello Bobby, and the Rest of the Crew at Ground Zero.

Good to hear the positive news. I must say I have to agree with Steve B, about all the gals who keep coming out of the woodwork for Bobby, you are well traveled and very well liked.

I once heard a Robert Service poem in 1982 at 20.000 ft.on a mountain in China called Rudshe Konka and what I remember went like this:

"The Men Who Don't Fit In"
There's a breed of men who don't fit in
a breed that can't stay still
so they break the hearts of kith and kin and roam the world at will

They range the field
They rove the flood
They climb the mountains crest
There's is the curse of the Gipsy blood
and they do not know how to rest

If they just went striaght
They might go far
For They are Strong, Brave and True
But they get tired of the things that ARE
and they want the Strange and NEW

Well Bobby, here's to being able to get the Strange and NEW.

keep up the good work.

All Good Things,
Rob Hart
