Lorenzo, what does it matter at which age one gets bought off?

Well, as Sepp shows us, you can be bought off at any age.
But the original assertion was that bad decisions would lead to early retirement for referees.
You can't show linkage there, can you?
Koman Coulibaly is still an international referee. He is now 43. He officiated AFC qualifier matches this cycle. ( needed a police escort after a recent match)

Replay review of off sides calls would be a snap, and take no time at all (with that graphics tech they're using on the telecasts), and I'd add replay review of all plays (and lead-up passes) that result in a goal in case clear fouls occurred that the ref missed. But wait, there's more! I'd also add post-match film review and post-match yellows or even reds for clear and obvious flops. The time this would all take during games is far less time than is wasted in flops and fake injuries. And the post-match flop review would put a big dent in flopping as a strategy.
I'm serious, and also a huge fan of the game, not some "they don't score enough" type who'd advocate goals being twice as big or some other crap.
What I'm suggesting doesn't change the beautiful game at all, just the crap that shouldn't be part of this sport (or any sport) to the extent there's a workable solution that leaves the game intact.
In the World Cup format, which I otherwise love and wouldn't change at all, one bad (and easily reversible with replay) call can eliminate a team and that shouldn't be when we've got an easy fix at hand.

We could be like basketball and give two points for a score, three from outside the 18.
One for a PK.
Argentina wins 3-0. See? Lots of scoring.
Problem solved.

Wow, I didn't realize that so many Supertopians knew that much about football.
However, I have an answer, clone an army of Pierluigi Collina's. That guy was just about always spot on.

It's futbol.
However, I have an answer, clone an army of Pierluigi Collina's. That guy was just about always spot on. He wasn't without his controversies. Everton fans claim he broke up attacks by Everton by calling trivial fouls against Villareal in a champion's league match, an inventive way to show bias.
And they claim he disallowed a goal by calling a foul on an Everton player when it was he who was fouled.

But maybe that Villareal had Riquelme and Forlan had something to do with it. He was unstoppable at the time. My Argentina #10 jersey has Riquelme's name on it.
His greatest moment was when Luiggi Moggi, the architect of Italy's referee scandal, was caught on tape saying Pierluigi was incorruptible.

I've been hopeful for a show of force.... thankful we got that]
That was a great game. It sickens me, but I am glad for the outcome and US is still in the world cup.
Not looking good for the next game.

Hell of a game. USA went toe to toe with Ronaldo & co. Too bad they didn't clinch the match early.
All they have to do is beat or draw with Germany .
All other scenarios involve what the others do.

Unbelievably bad to EVER just give the ball up at the end of the game and lose cover on Renaldo. We have a long aways to go. Great performance, but knucklehead errors cost us that one. Baldy also had easy shots on goals as well. A decent striker puts that in every time. We could easily have won that game 4-1.
Heartbreaker. But glad we pulled a tie.

Baldy isn't a striker. And he a Jones controlled the midfield. Without him, we aren't in it.

Another sub-par game for Bradley, he's got Rooneyosis I'm afraid. But how
could Beasley let Ronaldo have that much time and space?

Because he's the left back and Ronaldo scored from the right side?
Yeah, I'm guessing that's part of it.

Making up excuses for us folding at the last moment and missing easy opportunities is not helpful. Champions recognize key moments in any contest, and rise to the occassion. We choked. Not only gave the ball away at the most crrucial point in the game, but blew a cover. The whole American ideal of crushing the opponent, while overblown, was sorely lacking in this pervformance. We settle for these results only if our expectations are low. I expect us to win the group and advance. We have ten times the talent pool as most of those other nations and our youth soccer programs have been strong for goign on twenty years. No excuses. Time to step it up.
That much said, we are still in the hunt. But I'd like to see the JK use some of the younger talent as well. I'm afraid I'd have to bench Beasley and Baldy for the duration. You simply CANNOT give it up like that.
