Antagonists circuit ~10 sets total and short AE threshold ride ~5mi. Too many errands on the agenda, had to cut the session short. Soon as the salmon comes out of the oven, I'm out the door for more errands. Blah.

I felt great on the Sat hangboard session. Maybe it was time of day, an a.m. workout vs my normal p.m., or good rest, or the small amount of caffeine in my decaf right before, but I was psyched...and hangboard workouts aren't really anything to be stoked on.

Elcap, it is great when a session leaves you feeling so good even if it was 'only' a hangboard workout.
I only had time for a speed workout yesterday - 8x200M with 90-second rests between each sprint. That is a total of one mile and if I add up the run times I did a 5.5 minute mile :)

Another three mile 5 finger run in canyonlands.

I'm mostly off the net right now but uphill approachs with an atomsmasher loaded with big cams and almost daily short runs is the norm for me right now, little chance to report about it, though. Hope everybody is getting out and having as much adventure as I am!

If I did 9 laps in a pool, I will have swallowed 5 pounds of water and drowned. Good going!

I had not checked out this thread earlier. I am struggling with leaving running on the back burner as I prepare for a trip up Denali. It's been very hard to stop doing something that has been part of my daily life for 30 years. The truth is that I have to get much stronger to pick up my pack without whining and help. I will whine off the mountain, but on the mountain, there will be no whining.

Running relieves stress. Running allows me to eat with wild abandon. Running gets me outside every day. Running leaves me fit enough to climb when the sun finally comes to the northwest. Running does not help me pick up that damn pack. Enter strength training and snow slogging.

I am deluding myself with the notion of effective cross training. I am running 4 - 5 days a week now. Long runs have been replaced by hard uphill hiking with lots of weight. Frustrated that the vertical gain is so small when I am carrying lots of weight, I am now doing some fast and light hikes or skinning on the other weekend day. So what is the aerobic equivalent of 3,000' of skinning? or a 5 mile posthole festival that gains 5,000'? Those days in the gym that have legs as a focus - I can barely wobble back to the office. After supper, I can trot around the block for a couple of miles.

Why am I panicked? I have a Hood to Coast Team for the end of August. Within a few weeks of coming back from Alaska, I will be racing 3 times in 18 hours. This should be very interesting.

I have learned how to balance rock climbing and running. This year will be about the synergy or non-synergy of running and mountaineering. Perhaps it wouldn't be such a stretch if the pack was smaller or I was bigger.

Your check-ins are providing me some much needed inspiration.

I did a V4 and a V5 boulder problem and was working another V5 when Ironworks closed last night. I capped it off with 10 pull-ups. That's about as much cardio as I can stand.

A week ago I was hiking in Pinnacles, doing the reservoir and high peaks loop and balconies trail from the east side in my flip-flops. That was kind of aerobic, especially during the brief moments when I was carrying the kids. Those little rugrats are heavy now!

Seamstress, first - it must be so exciting to be going to Denali!!
I have chafed under heavy pack training for such trips too. It helps to still do some runs and fast hikes with a light pack to avoid losing touch with the faster pace altogether.
You will come back from the trip likely a little fatigued, but weighing less, so ease back into running (no more heavy packs, yeah!) and enjoy Hoood to Coast.
I came back from Denali and launched straight into trailrunning, started racing and did my first marathon in November of that year. The transition seemed to work out well. Being lighter helped :)

No time for a run yet today but I did do a deadlift workout that will serve my legs well. 5 sets of 5 reps, built up to 175# for the last set.

Waiting for the weekend, supposed to rain here but that makes the trails even softer :)

As the time I spend jogging increases, and my rate of speed improves, the more I want to do little else... except of course eat and recline more. The peaks in activity definitely bring on deeper lulls, and in motivation. Get to this point when I don't want to deal with the inner task master telling myself to go longer/farther yet, plus the necessary stretching I never do enough of so everything usually aches. Insert violins here. Time to let up a little just to keep at this with some consistency... Impressive how much you regulars do!

Glad you are having a great trip, Jay, from the sound of it!

Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm going up late - June 12th. Hope to summit on my birthday. I am taking a guided trip as I have been unable to pull together a solid team by myself. Time is ticking, and I must get up there before......This will be my first trip to Alaska, so the West Buttress will be fine - though I thought about biting off something more. Perhaps I will see you on your victorious descent. In all likelihood, you will be taking off as I land on the glacier. I'll be the only woman with a group of Aussie's with AAI. How about you?

Just did the whole body workout in the gym, followed by a 4 mile run. THe sun is shining for the first time in a long time. DId 8 in the pouring rain yesterday. SO my shoes were still a little squishy today.

Seamstress, sounds like you will have a blast. I do hope you summit on your birthday, what better way to celebrate than being on top of the North American continent :)

Did about 15 miles on soggy trails on Saturday. It poured rain until the last few miles and It was tough to stay warm on the downhills and flats. Thankfully a change of clothes in ziplock bags stayed dry so we could be comfortable on the way home.
