"I can finally take out the trash", it may have already been said but I read somthing about how world production comes to a screeching standstill during the tournament month. Funny stuff.
Spain showed they are in a class all there own.
I was bummed to see the dutch play the man and not the ball. Alonso took a kick to the ribs that would have KO'd a cage fighter.

Really wanted the Dutch to win, would have been cool for Wes Sneijder to get a double with the Champions league and WC.
If the Dutch national team had over half its' members playing on the same club team (ala Spain/ FC Barcelona) it would have been a much different outcome IMO. Xavi, Iniesta, Pique, Puyol, Villa, Busquets, & Pedro all spend the year playing together.
And Puyol was the last defender when he obstructed Robben...Howard Webb screwed that one up (but he is arguably the best ref in the Barclay's) That said, Robben still had two excellent chances where had to score (but so did Sergio Ramos and Fabregas).
Best thing overall to me...while champs Spain are almost exclusively La Liga players, the English Premier league (which is my preference) was well represented all through the tourney...even the final...Fabregas, Heitinga, Kuyt, Van Persie, De Jong, Torres, Alonso etc.
Honestly, I prefer club football (the national teams are a step down in quality) but the spectacle of international football is cool.

ElCap- You have a point with Spains team being a BFC dominant team. Everyone asks what it will take for the US to step up their game? Playing with each other on a consistent basis at a high level. It's obvious Donovan benefited from his stint at Everton, but if we could get a few of these guys playing on the same team I think we'd see some more W's.
I agree that Ramos and Cassilas are the unsung heros of the Spanish team. Those two were rock solid in every match. Sergio has to be the best right fullback in the world while also being a scoring threat.

It'll take a lot more than that. What separates the great teams from the
good teams? A quality first touch. How do you develope that? Practice,
practice, and more practice. Go anywhere in the world except the US and Canada
and if you see two or more boys outside chances are good they're
knocking a ball around. The only time you see US kids playing is in an
organized setting and that is almost invariably being run by retards with
no knowledge of the game. We don't have the passion, period.

Footballing justice was done, Spain was the better team by a lot. Tough game, with a ref from Europe's most physical league dishing some legit yellow cards. De Young easily could have been and perhaps should have been sent off.
Holland showed flashes of its quality, especially Robben, but twas not enough.
