@thebravecowboy -- props on the Blowfly vid. I love that guy. Reid was in no way, shape or form a snotty white suburban punk type, but his raps just slay me every time. Even though it came from a culture I never experienced, Rapp Dirty is an anthem for me, and has been since I first heard it while visiting my older brothers, who were living in the Village at the time and were totally plugged into NYC's creative grid. From what I've read, he was hugely influential in the Hip-Hop and R&B world, but honestly I don't know enough about the guy -- not as much as I'd like to...that spin on the Ramone's was part of a novelty album he did in the mid-00's just to pay the bills. Like many great creative types, he died broke, ripped-off and with a catalog worth tens of millions.

That's another great one Jim! Everything he touched was gold. I think Jello Biafra was the driving force behind that album.

Not really punk, but you heathens will probably find this comical. Or not.

I have "PUNK" tattooed on the inside of my lip, still have a 3ft tall mohawk (hasn't been up in years though), named my youngest kid 'Ivy' after Operation Ivy, and played in/with/seen more bands than I could possibly remember....this is the best punk band of all time in my opinion:

Saw these two seasoned L.A. punkers a few weeks back at a brewery in San Pedro, along with Mike Watt and a few remaining Minutemen. Got tickets to see all of the X members play, along with Mike Watt and The Meat Puppets on Dec 23rd @ the Observatory in Santa Ana. Should be a good show.

Hey Split!

Here's a few pics and a vid of 'Los Angeles' I took at the show. Always great to see Mike Watt fire up the bass and the brothers Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets stir up old memories with 'Up On The Sun'. Of course, nothing more amazing than to belt out lyrics with John Doe a few feet away! Sadly, Billy Zoom hasn't been doing too well these days. He's battling bladder cancer; the reason he's sitting down. And Exene has her own health issues. Still an amazing show. Lots of people getting tossed over the front railing!

Warbler,

I am not a guitarist, but I think Paul Westerberg is often underrated. Also Manu Chau is good. Manu Chau was the front man for Mano Negra. Also Eugene Hutz from Gogol Bordello (one of my favorites).

Ron Asheton and James Williamson from the Stooges. Johnny Ramone - some of what he did was technically difficult.

That's sad that you need proof, Warbler. I guess you can't appreciate talent with the likes of John Doe or Billy Zoom, both of which have shared their talents within other genres and have been appreciated throughout the years. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a wide spectrum of musical talent (mega-huge fan of David Gilmour and Robert Fripp!!!). Punk will always be punk. Lighten up.

Billy Zoom puttin' out the talent and musicianship....
