Reilly - That's Bear Grass (Nolina spp) with a giant spike of flowers. Nice shot. The flower spike can reach 12 feet tall.

Reilly, It looks like a wild Iris to me.....

edit: Reilly there probably are orchids on the Oregon coast..possibly lady slippers/ fairyslippers... .

We have 2 different genus's named Bear Grass on this page. At the top of the page, eKat shows Xerophyllum spp in Glacier, a plant of the montane coniferous forests. Reilly's post is Nolina spp, closely related to the Yucca (I think), and is found in the desert.
