It's getting to look a lot like Solstice...

...everywhere you go.

I just noticed from viewing a South African video the other night that in the southern hemisphere, the sun sets in a descending right to left arc, whereas here in the northern hemisphere, the same thing happens in a left to right arc.

Ground-breaking news from Our Town.

Someone mentions Dr. Demento and/or Scotland and y'all have to wonder why this is making it's first appearance here.

Those videos? Well, I admit to bait-fishing for neebee rainbows...I tried to find a fly pattern, but nothing in my tackle box seemed quite up to the challenge.

I foraged and found mention on the neebee appreciation thread that you loved Scotty J, so that's what I decided to go with.

I used a barbless bait hook because it's all catch and release here in Middle Earth.

I'm so glad to see you could join the festivities here, if only for a little visit.

As always, it's wunnerful to visit with you, and I see you've been posting your own Scotty J on FB, too!

I'm just gonna park this video here. Excuse me for half a mo...

The upside of life

The sun is always shining
on the sunny side of town
The moon is always coming up
when I am feeling down
Although it sometimes feels as though
the world is upside down
I if I think about the good things
then it's hard to wear a frown

Talk to me now
Tell me what you think
I'll wash away the blues
With the good things that I think
Tell me 'bout the heartache
And tell 'bout the pain
I'll wash away all the blues
Again and again ol' friend

There's no completion
of overdue debt
Of things we wont let go of
and things we'll never get
We'll never see the light
of the darker side of town
But things are never brighter
than the sunset setting down

Oh take me away
Take me on down
I'll go quiet as a church mouse
Who is wearing a crown
Wearing a soul patch
On my honor I swear
Erasing the past
Without hardly a care

Old River rising
against the wild brambles
Laying down my life
against all that I am
Again and again
and it's what's so good
If there's finally completion
It's the upside of life

It's the upside of life

It's the upside of life

WATCHING THE WHEELS
St. John Lennon

People say I'm crazy, doing what I'm doing
Well, they give me all kinds of warnings to save me from ruin
When I say that I'm okay, well, they look at me kinda strange
"Surely, you're not happy now, you no longer play the game"

People say I'm lazy, dreaming my life away
Well, they give me all kinds of advice designed to enlighten me
When I tell them that I'm doing fine watching shadows on the wall
"Don't you miss the big time, boy. You're no longer on the ball"

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go

Ahhh, people ask me questions, lost in confusion
Well, I tell them there's no problem, only solutions
Well, they shake their heads and they look at me as if I've lost my mind
I tell them there's no hurry, I'm just sitting here doing time

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go
I just had to let it go
I just had to let it go

Twas the season.[Click to View YouTube Video]There was no good reason.

St. John lived 40 years as free as a bird.

He would have been 75 this year.

Who doesn't still miss him?

Saturday Morning Ramble in the Rain

I’m still up from last night. I napped a short while in the recliner, it seems. I woke up wanting to pee...urgently!

The reason I was up and not trying to sleep in my bed is pharmaceutical. I have added a twice-weekly dose of 5 mgs of Metolazone.

“Metolazone is a diuretic that increases the amount of urine you make, which causes your body to get rid of excess water. This drug is used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication also reduces swelling/fluid retention (edema) which can result from conditions such as congestive heart failure or kidney disease. This can help to improve symptoms such as trouble breathing.”

That is from the information the pharmacy sent, along with several more paragraphs detailing side effects and drug interactions. My doctor said it will amaze me how much more effective it makes the drug Lasix. His estimate is that urine flow will increase by about 50%. I finally received 8 tabs of Metolazone yesterday in the mail from the VA pharmacy in Fresno.

I judged that it was “safe” for me to take one pill yesterday at around five p.m. This was a bad move. I should have taken it far earlier in the day! At times the interval between pee breaks was less than fifteen minutes. With this amount of kidney activity, it would be useless to try to sleep.

My weight is @ 175 lbs now. I have been able to walk faster without losing my wind, and now this new drug may enable me to ramp that up a bit more. I need to set myself a “course” of four blocks to and four block from somewhere on Main St. and do it daily until I can ramp THAT up, too. And I should do it in the early morning. This morning seems like as good time as any.

But gee-golly, Molly...it’s raining out! [woot-woot!]

Rain, pee, it’s all water that I see.
It was once in you but now in me.
Hee-hee, hee-hee.

Rain, rain, come and play
And let it snow, without delay.
Hey-hey, hey-hey.

Just a dusting of snow
At this moment...it flurries, swirls on the wind
has been a long time since the snow was last thin.
As I like it best; filling in white where shadows had been
Just a dusting of white
at this moment
in an hour or two before dawn
Wind chill is way up at twenty-five below(-25)
after the freakish warm days in the sixties (60s)
The contrast is schlocking
cheeks turning red in the bite of the stinging blow
Just a dusting of snow at this moment
Right now
This morning

Speaking of Chicago, I am wireless-connected again to the Windy City.

I'm part of a new research program which uses a patch placed near the heart and that contains a chip able to read my cardio signs--heart rate, etc. It then relays this to a smart phone connected to the research center located in Chicago. The patch has a battery and I have spare patches. There is a free phone to discuss problems with the techie who runs things back in Illinois.

This will be a three-month-long run. My data is collated down the line with that of other test subjects. The thing we have in common is that we all suffer from CHF, congestive heart failure.

This is only a test to see if it is practical and beneficial in that if a system gets up and running, will it save lives/prevent severe flare-ups, etc., by monitoring CHF patients with these chips.

It's about warning signs and using them.

WARNING: Yer gonna die! Do something!

I had been set up for this project but before I left the hospital the damn phone crapped out. I've now gotten a new one and have begun broadcasting.

I can sit here and watch my heart beat on the screen, if I want.
Wireless, he's tireless...till the battery runs down.

A votre sante!

That's fantastic and a little scary...

A heart rate of 24791. That's cool. In the old days a heart rate of 200 was high...
