Sailing and climbing are two things I really love, plus it's my astrological sign. "seagoat" by itself was taken so I added SC standing for Santa Cruz, where I live. Some people glance at it and think its Scapegoat. Sometimes I've felt like that!

I actually scrolled through this whole damn thread to see if I had already posted. I suffer from CRS(can't remember shit). Nope.
People have been calling me Wayno as long as I can remember. Even when they have never heard anyone else call me that. They have called me other weird sh#t, but that one rolls nicely.

Before dirtbag was in vogue climbers in Yosemite were known as park bums or PBs. I considered Hazbin Wanabie, or Brahmaputra for new age cachet but...just my initials and who needs a nickname anyhow?

Tung Gwok is the name I was given by the Acholi people of northern Uganda, the region where I do my fieldwork. It means "Horn of the Dog." The backstory is a local story that sometimes a mother dog gives birth in its litter to a dog with horns, but that we rarely see such dogs because the mother, seeing that the dog is weird, eats it before any human arrives. However, if a person is both fortunate and has tenacity, he/she can arrive in time and snatch the horn of the dog before the dog is eaten. Such a person then is protected by the horn from bad events. My fieldwork took me to live in the Internally Displaced Persons camps in northern Uganda during the war there. When I returned home without getting hurt or falling ill,the Acholi in diaspora gave me the name because they figured that I must have "tung gwok."

Very simple answer:
After watching so many people be disrespectful cowards and jerks to each other anonymously on the internet, I used that as a model of what not to do. I use my name, and try to be respectful, just like I would in person.

When I first started to really climb in the 60's it was in the Bow Valley west of Calgary Alberta. The climbing club that I belonged to was full of limeys and scots that used nothing but knotted slings and stoppers (moacs) for pro so that was the way I thought climbig was suposed to be. Even when Friends came out I continued to use moacs for pro because I believed in a kind of silly way that cams were a form of cheating....anyway we were comming back from a climbing day and ran into a friend and his partner on the trail, my friend says to his partner hey look it's the moac man....so thats my story and I'm stickin to it...........
PS
My real climbing name is "The Moves" but thats another story..........

There is a Donini wine I stumbled across in Canada. Tried some, it was kind of low rent- perfect for the taco stand.

bird as a last name is a curse in childhood, more fun as you get older.
using your own name is like living in a glass house.

I cut my teeth climbing in the Gunnison Valley when I was attending Western State College. At that time, all of the license plates from there started with the letters YD - hence ydpl8s - kind of lets people in-the-know from whence I came, and now, you are all in-the-know.

My avatar is in memory of a dog I had for 15 years. My furry friend died at the time I started joining internet discussion forums. His name was actually Chewy but that name is already taken on most forums.
My real name is in my profile so I don't feel like I'm being anonymous or hiding.

I walked into Neptune Mtnr one day and Charlie Fowler says "Hey, Sick Mic, what'd ya do today?" It just stuck, although the spelling is mine. I always thought it pretty funny, considering some of the crazy stuff that he'd done.

Splitter. That should be fairly self explanatory. Most old school/trad climbers love splitters. And I was surprised to find that it hadn't been taken. I was thinking about adding something coy like splitterpunk, splitterho, or splitterjunkie, etc. but simply went with splitter.
But for me it has a double connotation. I use to be a 21/blackjack junkie/addict. Spent years(off & on)at it. Developed a strategy/system that worked. For example, I can recall going to various casino's in vegas(where i lived for a couple years)seventeen days in a row and doubling-quadrupling whatever money i entered with every time. And splitting cards is a strategy that can reduce the house/casino's edge. It is basic and fundamental. As is counting cards(imo). But there are times when it shouldn't be done(splitting). Someone would sit next to you and with a strong plus count running and everything looking sweet(rich deck), split every hand that could be split. Screwing up the whole strategy/count and usually take the dealers bust card(or my 21 card). For instance splitting two face cards(or even worse, two 5's)when the dealer had to hit. I called them splitters and I hated them.
edit: "junkie/addict" for example: i had clubs(there are allot of casino's/clubs in vegas)that i gambled at & those which i practiced at. I would usually gamble no longer than an hour or so. But i would 'practice'(counting, etc.)for hours on end. I can vividly recall entering one casino, to practice, at around 3:00 in the afternoon and sitting at a table for 14-16 hours straight. When i left, the sun had just begin to rise and people where waiting for buses to take them to work, etc.! It was a surreal moment...had an epiphany of sorts and i began a long process of reevaluating my lifestyle/habit.
EDIT: Yes, Charlie Fowler was definitely one sick dood(positive connotation). RIP!
