Hey Bob-Meister,
There is this song by Ryan Adams that we listened to endlessly when Kim came to visit last week and it really makes me think of you. Part of the lyrics include:
And I hold you close in the back of my mind
Feels so good but damn it makes me hurt
And I'm too scared to know how I feel about you now
How I feel about you now
La Cienega just smiles and says, "I'll see you around"
So, bud, I hold you close in the back of my mind.
I'll see you around,

Bobby,
The last couple years I have closely followed your accomplishments and whereabouts. If you were wondering why your ears were burning from time to time it was me talking about you to co-workers and friends. PROUDLY telling them Bobby Model is from my home town and explaining my connection to you.
Just wanted to let you know I am thinking about you and praying for you and your family. I look forward to good updates on the SuperTopo site!!
Faith (aka 'Faith No More') my thoughts and prayers are with you. Can't wait to give you a big hug.

Model Crew,
I was just at moms and my coffe cup there is the one Bobby gave me one year for Christmas. If felt like an honor to have that cup to drink from. I really miss you guys. My times taking care of Austine and our trips have been wonderful memories and getting to spend my days off with Bobby and Faith were the best days off I ever had. Even when Bobby was telling me how to drive on a freeway in L.A. the first time. (Even though he wasn't old enough to drive yet!) "You're suppose to weave in and out and pass all the other cars! Don't you watch people drive on TV." I was so nervous driving that station wagon. It's was scarry going from driving in Wyoming to a freeway in L.A. and Bobby was doing a great job making the mood lighter. He always has a way of knowing when I need a laugh and relax. I love you and I pray for Bobby and all of you guys 24/7. Faith thanks for the updates. Love you guys Brenda

Hi Bobby and Faith,
As I was standing on the summit of Half Dome last week I recalled Bobbies words to me, "Keep climbing and taking pictures!"
Bobby, my thoughts and prayers are with you, Faith, Bob, and Ann. May your recovery be quick and your strength return so, you can "keep climbing and taking pictures."
May God be with you,

Hang in there Bobby, and take it at your own pace. I don't know that we ever crossed paths, but with the friends we have in common (Todd, Paul, Bill, Tim T ,Sam and a host of others) it seems likely. In amy case I feel connected through your photo work.
Kinda like what Mandy said; about a year ago my two brothers and I climbed the tower of the Devil via Bonhomme var, with my then 16 yr old daughter. It was warm on the approach and a lot of humpy work, as always. Arriving at the base of the route Natalie, instead of grunting, spontaneoulsy blurted out, "This is gorgeous!" she was overwhelmed with the location, and that was just the approach!
Great advice, I'm always taking pictures.

I am not a climber but have known Bobby for nearly 10 years and count him among my closest, most special friends. It is so wonderful to see all of the support pouring in through this forum. Bobby is everything written on these pages and then some. He is truly one in a million and I, for one, feel honored to know him. I know all of this good kharma is helping our friend, so please keep up the good work.
I read the latest update from Joe Maxwell and it was heartening to hear that Bobby's eyes are flickering and that he is still hanging tough. I can't say it surprises me one bit, the tenacity with which Bobby holds on, and the strength of his family and friends who are with him. I was feeling a bit helpless when I first heard the news but now I know I need not feel that way at all. Bobby is stubborn and he's gonna pull through this, I know.

Thank you Faith, Anne and Jim, Bob, and all the other helpers!
It's nice to have this forum to have someplace to go with this rawness of knowing that an old friend is in such an ordeal so far away. The Myers family is following Bobby's progress
and lobbing love toward the Cape of Good Hope.
Where are you right now, Bobby? Are you travelling through the past 34 years of Bobby Model memories like I am, like we all are here in this forum? I'm having fun lingering in the memories, so I can understand if you would too, though it seems that in the 20 years since we lived in the same town you haven't stood still too much.
First, you tried to make a go-kart with a wood frame and an old kick-start washing machine motor. I tried to help but that never did roll. The next summer you had a real go-kart and we found freedom up and down Rattlesnake Creek valley. Your urinal in the ranch treehouse is still genius. And I admired your audaciousness the day we dug up the sprinkler line at your house in town to hook up the shower in the playhouse (two-storey, freestanding, built with 2x4s). Did you have a truck for awhile in which I believe the driver's seat was a wooden rocking chair?
Here's to more adventures and hope to see you soon!

Hey Bob-Meister,
Not much new to report today, the dream "dry" summer is now over and we can barely breathe it's so muggy on the streets of DC - I really need to get out of here. I went to the Eastern Shore of Maryland today, across from the Chesapeake Bay, and just getting out of dodge felt wonderful. We drove across the Bay Bridge, which is a real architectural wonder, and in spite of the speed and the surrounding cars I couldn't help but wonder at the sheer beauty of this ecosystem. It was just a moment out of time, but it was good. I was thinking, maybe the next time you come to show NG your latest photos I'll take you there, though we'll park the car and go kayaking or sailing, or something fun like that.
Has anyone told you what a pain the time difference is for all of us here in the U.S.? You're six hours ahead of the east coast, and basically after 6.00 pm we know we're not going to get any more news about how you are doing, and that sucks. Then again, when we wake up in the morning your day is well started, and on a good day we get a little bit of news about you, and on a very good day we hear that you seem to be coming closer to the surface. And almost every day we get a very cool email from one of your childhood friends, and that pretty much sets the tone for the day. We all smile at the thought of what a rascal you were (and still are), and we root for you some more, and we wait another day.
We'll keep on waiting, bud, and we'll be there for you when you're ready.
Sweet dreams,
Charlotte

Bobby remember two years ago when Mary was hurt and Bruce threw that amazing party for her to help in her recovery. I think we talked about how cool it was that she was able to see how much everyone around her loved and supported her. And how lucky everyone was to have a chance to convey to Mary how special she was to each and everyone who knows her. Well, I think this Supertopo forum is kind of the same thing for you. How cool (sorry to keep using that word but I don't know what else really captures what I'm trying to say) it is for you to get to hear from so many people how you have impacted their lives. I have to say, I am a bit jealous when I read all the stories and realize that when you aren't spending time with us you're not just biding your time, but you're actually having amazing experiences with any number of other people!!
Well since I know that Faith may be the one reading these notes to you I thought I'd have to include a reference to 24. You know in 24 how you never quite know what will happen next, who will be discovered as a double agent or who won't make it through the episode. Well one thing we always know is that Jack Bauer will survive – he has to or there's no show the following week. No matter how dire the circumstance he finds himself in he'll come out some how, some way unscathed. This time it's you – you're Jack and some how, some way you're going to get through all of this and soon enough you may even find yourself coming to Casper Drive on a Monday night for dinner and the latest episode of 24. You'll call from the grocery store to see what we might need for supper and then show up, crack a beer, have a seat and start talking about the latest Cody gossip. But as soon as 8 o'clock rolls around it's down to business - no talking, no phone calls, we can't even manage to get up for dessert until there's a commercial. In spite of the sometimes boring and often unbelievable plot twists and turns we can't get enough of it. Well the same could be said of our time with you Bobby – whether we're out on a never-ending mountain biking photo shoot, camping in Ten Sleep, getting coffee at the Beta or kicking back watching the latest episode of 24 it's always worth it. I'm counting on you to come back, Jack Bauer-style, ready to take on your next assignment, whatever it may be. Oh, yeah and fyi, I don't think the next season starts until at least January so you have a little time!!

Bobby,
Hey man...
You and Steve used to resole my shoes back in good ol' Lar'.
Bobby, I have been thinking alot about Lander, my second home, and all that has happened recently. You probably don't know me from Adam. However, I remember you! Hang in there. You are a special man. You are a man who takes life head on and as it comes. I am sorry to hear about your accident, but am confident about the guy I know. Beat this thing and come climbin' at the Iris. Thanks for giving a guy like me a kind hello. Thanks for giving me the insight on a tough project. And, thanks for being you! You are a person who I, someday would like to become. Stand tough! I'll see you soon.

JUNE 26 UPDATE FROM BOBBY'S SISTER:
Dear All,
Thank you all so much for your heightened thoughts and prayers yesterday,
they are having a tremendously positive impact. Bobby's eyes now flutter a
bit and he's been swallowing and moving his mouth, particularly when he's
being spoken to or in response to pain. He's not at all happy with the vast
array of tubes poking into his arms and he's been fighting pneumonia, which
is tiring. They are trying to wean him off the ventilator completely, which
will greatly reduce his risk of infection. His vitals also stabilized a
little bit from yesterday. He's tough, resilient and fighting and I'm so
very proud of my brother. He's extraordinary.
We are in the process of arranging for Bobby to be flown back to the states
as soon as he is stable enough to fly, which could be any time. We will let
you know as soon as details and location are finalized.
And finally, the letters, stories and cheers are being read to Bobby twice
over and I SINCERELY believe he's listening and loving it. We are all
grateful beyond words, particularly in light of the effect this is having.
And of course, we're all greatly entertained, touched and heartened. Thank
you, thank you.
Much love and thanks to all from all of us here, especially Bobby,
Faith

Bobby, we are still praying hard in Idaho. Starting to Plan our trip back to Cody next week. Jake is going to take Hayden climbing on all your local routes. He is 8 now and quite the climber.
Keep making your way back home! Wyoming is calling you. There is a song that's popular right now by Daughtry, it reminds me of you and this situation.
Here are some of the words:
I'm going home, back to the place where I belong, and where your love has always been enough for me. I'm not running from, no I think you've got me all wrong. I don't regret this life I chose for me. But, these places and these faces are getting old. So, I'm going home.
Here's to you. Keep fighting!

Hey Bobby,
I just saw that Joe Max is staying on for another week in SA and I hope your old coach can still work his magic and that some of your buds down there drag his ass up Table mountain and if not on the end of a rope than ar least a good hike up one side and down the other.
I was also just going through some old slides for Crazy Creek's 20th anniversary and I came across some photos you took while we were waiting out a hot afternoon before our summit departure on Kili,I may have to use one in our catalog this year as the photo looks like I am floating in the clouds riding my chair. There was also one of us sitting under an umbrella enjoying a cold beer and a smoke knowing it was the end of a great adventure.
Here's to many more great adventures that I know will take place in your life. Keep feeding the Rat Bobby.

Dear Faith,
Our friend Bob Ix is a walking miracle in his mid-seventies – 30 some years ago he was given a maximum of 6 months to live due to a rapid growing tumor around his pancreas and kidney. They did surgery and radiated as much as they could and sent him home with a terrible prognosis. Today he thrives and is full of fun, having even survived a huge tree falling and crushing him almost to death several years ago at the age of 72. These miraculous survivals are very much contributed to his and his wife’s work as Knights of Malta, a wonderful Catholic organization. When I became so sick two years ago Cissie IX visited me at Sloan Kettering with Lord’s Water and I went on their prayer list which goes world wide and I feel had a strong influence on my recovery from multiple myeloma where I continue to thrive today. Cissie and Bob now have Bobbie on the prayer list and I believe all things are aiming towards his complete and total recovery, because prayer really can work. We are heartened to hear of his progress and hope he will be able to stay in Cape Town until he really is better before flying home. We truly believe in miracles and are sure this will be one of them and the Bobbie we know and admire will be here in full strength soon again. Thinking of you with all our prayers.
Love,
David, Anne, Charlotte, Wells and Field.
