Chiloe: I love your photos. Not only is the subject matter great, but your eye for a good shot is excellent. If you don't mind me asking, how is it that you end up in these incredibly beautiful places?

JubJubBird -- very nice! Where are those?

Mooser -- thanks. Part of my job involves research on human-environment interactions in the North. Very interesting work,
you get to know some cold harbors.

Thanks, Chiloe. Sounds like fascinating work!

JubJub: Also very nice photos! You gotta love Prague! I took so many shots there that I could barely afford to develop them (in the days of film--the 90's).

My favorite random senseless banner/sign from Thailand.

Still cracks me up every time I read it.

One of my favorite random photos of Tony and Julie around an IC fire. The climbing at the Creek is pretty good but it's the campfire scenes which really define it for me. This was right before the bombs started going off. Don't worry, we weren't anywhere near any of Heidi's cows, other campers, cowboys or sensitive natural sites.

Chiloe,

Your last Greenland-shot (on this page) I do not recognize.
Could it be Narsaq in South Greenland?

Let me add one from somewhat further north: Uummannaq, last September

Quite a view from the Dru. The chopper means bad/good news for somebody, I guess?

You're quite right, my Greenland shot above was Narsaq. In the same season as yours of Uummannaq -- early September. The fjord was just starting to form grease ice, which looked like water but crackled wierdly as the boat moved through.

Looking south-ish from Conway Summit, end of last year. Mono Lake is down there.

Helicopter? No problem for us.
We were fine, only slightly delayed by an unexpected storm the day before. The chopper were surveing all major routes for trapped "clients", and hoovered the pillar from bottom to top.

This is me contemplating the escape possibilities in case the storm continued (which would have been a rappel down the face, down the couloir, over the glacier, down valley to Cham - in friction shoes, as all gear was stashed and unreachable at Flammes des Pierres...)

It was an amazingly pretty day today. Which I gladly spent at the "best bouldering in Kentucky." At least we had to doors open...

I went to Norway last year to go kayaking and had a great time. Here's me on the Ula doing one of the slides that river is famous for.

I ran it a second time and got spun around at the top of the slide. Oops, had to do everything backwards

Wow! That wierd fire-thingy mist effect on Mt. Hungabee is totally cool! Like a B&W with strategic color effects.
