Steve called and said Perihelion Brewery had just won an award for their Tripel at... Well I don't remember. Some kind of Washington State beer competiton. So, with the sun out, and the afternoon waning, we decided to check it out.

This isn't what I'm drinking now, but the foundation of what I'll be drinking in about a month.

A nice Devils Backbone Vienna Lager brings to mind one of my favorite quotes,
“24 hours in a day and 24 beers in a case; Coincidence?? I don’t think so”

Keeping it simple: cold Pacifico right out of the bottle after 2 1/2 hour drive each way for a 2 hour birthday party in Oakdale.

One of my all-time favorites. Just poured a glass of...
Seattle is a great place to find pretty much any beer from any place in the world, but the level of beer snobbery there is so intense, and beer snobs' income levels are so high, that retailers can raise prices to unimaginable levels and barely see any slowing in demand.
But when Gulden Draak hit $16.95 for a 750ml bottle I could no longer justify buying it
And moving to my new home in Powell River -- a small city on the BC coast that is so isolated that you have to take two ferries to get to it -- didn't seem likely to help. Not only has the price of beer in Canada historically been higher than in the US, but given the isolation, I expected selection to be severely limited. (I knew there was a good brewpub in town, but they only offer half a dozen beers.)
Ha! Was I ever wrong. Okay, the selection isn't quite what you would find in Seattle or Portland or San Francisco, but it's far wider than I expected, and today, wonder of wonders, there on the shelf was Gulden Draak. 333ml bottles for CAD$3.79
Converting that to US$, and scaling up to 750 mls means I'm paying US$6.35 per 750 mls. just over 1/3 what I'd be paying in Seattle.
Hmmm. I think I might just crack another bottle...

After a day of scrubbing on one of the local crags a glass of tripel at the local brewpub hit the spot.
