I think Trump's rants are getting so outrageous that he is showing his true colors, i.e., that he is not really a serious contender for the presidency.
I think he is just a bored billionaire having his version of fun.

It would certainly explain why an otherwise rational individual makes such inappropriate and self-defeating statements. He may well want to win on some level but not enough to reign it in. You may be onto something.
You got an example of something rational he's said?

I have wondered about whether that is the case, or something like it (a bet) for some time.
One thing which I think is true, he truly wants to deny the nomination to Bush, who he detests.
Trump's constant outrageous statements drown out ANY statements by Bush, who has spent millions on ads and gotten nothing for it. As time goes on and Bush remains mired, his chances drip-drip-drip away. If that is Trump's only real goal, he is making real progress.

What expense? He's trolled the media for freebies from Day 1.
You're giving the guy too much credit. He could not possibly have known there were that many crazy & angry white people around.

No one remembers anything, so I can repeat an earlier post of mine.
Trump is brilliant. He looked at the trouble Romney had making his primary statements agree with
those made in the election. Trump has decided we, like the Romans, want only entertainment. By
regularly contradicting himself we no longer look for anything from him beyond entertainment.
Given that, we don't expect what he says to agree with anything. We take whichever statement with
which we most agree and run with it. Possibly, Trump is a modern day Nero.
Decades ago we converted news reports to "infotainment". Trump has invented "electainment".

I didn't say this was one of those times ;)
Nero killed himself so his guards couldn't do it their way.
And Trump shows little of Nero's good side.
He let slip no opportunity for acts of generosity and mercy, or even for displaying his affability,” wrote the otherwise critical Suetonius in the 2nd century AD.

The right wing Christians would not have approved. It was assisted suicide.
The method chosen for him by the Senate was getting beaten to death.

Changing my mind on this dude.
He is single handedly dismantling the tea party. No way they can keep up with him.
