Honduras finally breaks it's world cup goaless streak.
First words in celebration out of Costly's mouth... "Amo a mi país" (I love my country).
This is so much more than a game (sorry, I know I'm preaching to the converted)

Overtime probably should be used in the last match in the group stage. I'm opposed to it otherwise because it gives the next team an advantage in recovery..
There is overtime in the knockout rounds. And I hate shoot outs all the time. Let teams battle it out no matter how long it takes and reschedule to a minimum number of rest days. Teams shouldn't gain advantage because two other good teams had to battle.
I also don't much like the advantage the home side and teams in that group get in days of rest, though I understand it makes for better game attendance.

I dunno. The argument in favor of goal differential and goals scored is that it encourages teams to score and go for the win, rather than playing for a draw or worse OT and penalties.

Goal differential theoretically favors a balanced game. Goals scored favors offence, but more importantly favors running up the score against weak teams. That's not good theater.
If you are going to set criteria it should be who does well against the opponent. I'd favor head to head as first criteria. If it comes to the last game of group stage, the rules should favor the two teams deciding against each other.
And history shows it is good defence that wins cups in any sport. Statistics show it more deciding than scoring goals. Brasil v Mexico was a thrilling game. That should be taken into account also. Just counting goals for favors a strategy that doesn't win cups.

Well, the highlights of the first half of Arg/Iran were:
1 The look on the face of the youngster bolding Messi's hand as they walked out
2 the Iranian keeper talking to his defender and covering his mouth with his hand so nobody
could read his lips?. BwaHaHaHaHaHa!
But I could see that he said - "WATCH #10!!!!!!!!!!"

Much respect for Iran's defense and goal-tending; great to watch.

Props to Iran. The rope-a-dope almost worked. That Serb ref really blew it. A second ref
would have been closer to the play.
Argentina has a number of questions. I've been an Higuain fan but he disappointed today. He
looks past his prime. The defense was repeatedly exposed and Belgium will hurt them with
their physicality and quality. I see a Belgium/ Holland semi.
In the other bracket I don't see anything to prevent a Germany/Brasil semi except Colombia
and decent reffing. I'm sure Brasil will get some more very favorable calls.

My exact words when Klose came on were "Uh-Oh, he's a killer and I'm sure he has a good 20 minutes in him." He only needed one.

This makes the USA win over Ghana look pretty good.
And it makes Germany look human.

Agreed (without passing judgement on an entire nation with respects to it's broken-ness)
I consider any team making it to the World Cup to be of the best no matter how scrappy, or ultra-sleek the team may be.
Cheers Greece!
Let's go US!

Heartbreaker for Bosnia which I watched with my Bosnian mate.
Dzeko wasn't even close to being offside! FIFA doesn't want instant
replay because it would impact the retirement prospects of corrupt refs.

Well, no, that's not a reason. The mandatory retirement age is still 45 for a FIFA ref.
Most refs don't make it to that level until 40 or so. That means the average ref gets two cups at most.
Just stick with corruption or incompetence.
