Howard Webb has always been overly inclined to put his stamp on a game.
More to the point why did Robben hold the ball so long and let Casillas
come out? Inexplicable.

This game could have been less of a tackle match and more of the outstanding play I witnessed in past matches.....
Happy for Spain. It was hard fought,,,,, and that goal was pretty...
cheers to all..
that world cup was one of the best I've seen since paying attention to the world cup...
cheers to my friend/fans here on the taco.

Overall I thought Spain was slightly the better team, but not by much, so a 1 - 0 result is reasonable. Webb did a good job refereeing - the Dutch were nervous, and paid the price.
The play that led to the goal was a pass from left wing into centre, then a shorter pass from centre to Iniesta. Iniesta looked offside at the time of the first pass, but not the second. He didn't receive the first pass, but was certainly involved in the play.

Spain was more than slightly better - a well deserved win.
I thought del Bosque had gone of his rocker when he pulled Villa
for Torres. I think van Marwijk was definitely off his to pull Kuyt
rather than van Persie. In the end it didn't matter and a nice goal
saved us from penalties.

Thank god Spain made it through. The Dutch did nothing but destroy, destroy, destroy.
And I still think we, ze jermans, played the most entertaining football in this tourney. Any non-biased opinion about that? :))

It was a sign of the Dutch nervousness that in extra time, one of their players put the ball in the Spanish goal, well after he'd been whistled offside. He was lucky not to have been cautioned if not sent off for doing so - it's considered quite unsportsmanlike conduct.

I like the game that the Spanish team was playing, but the fact that it went deep into the 2nd extra time, with 2 minutes left and with Netherlands down a person was an indication of how close these teams matched up...
...I never liked the kind of game that the Netherlanders played, big, physical, defense... but the coach that taught me the game was German, and he taught us the way to win was through a crisp short passing game...
...when we played teams that were big and physical you learned just how beat up you could get playing soccer.
Glad the the Spanish won this one, it was really close.. I was relieved and surprised it didn't come down to penalty kicks in the end..

I'm with you Ed, glad it didn't get to penalty kicks. What a pressure cooker that game was! By the score,
it was close. But I feel Espana dominated the game. Still, Amsterdam was a fast-break away from blowing
themselves off the mainland!
A fantastic tourney.
Now, what are they going to do about those dignity-sapping stage dives?

I was actually looking forward to the penalty kicks, so I was pissed when Spain scored.
You gotta admit, shootout is one of the few interesting things in what is generally a pretty dull sport.
With maybe an exception for the stupid horns, South Africa did a good job hosting the tournament, and for a dumb "sport," I found it to be a mildly entertaining diversion.
Kind of like SuperTopo, ha ha ha.

I'm so happy for Spain and Iniesta! Why de Jong wasn't given a red card,
and von Bommel wasn't given numerous RED cards is unbelievable.
von Bommel deserved the title of the dirtiest player in futbol,
and the Dutch the dirtiest team in futbol.
Oh, and did I say how they took a dive every time anyone was near them?
Spain are truly WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!!!
