I have been working with the BLM since 1984 starting in the San Luis Valley and then at Shelf Rd. Always helpful and they have really stepped up to the plate when it comes to climbers in the area.

Climbers are far from perfect but just like Jim the BLM has told me that they enjoy working with climbers and find them to be for most of the time...respectful.

And that is the 4443 .. working together as a community, instead of forcing your will with guns.

Yeah, I had guessed it was the cheap plastic stands on it's own kinda flag. Helluva way to respect the Stars and Stripes
Isnt that a bit ironic?
I find absolutely nothing ironic about working with the BLM, USFS, NPS, State Parks, private parties to work out land access issues.
I've been directly involved with State Parks on both master planning and fire road maintenance. We've had "issues" which we've worked out to mutual satisfaction.
What I find ironic is in the 21st century there are antediluvian troglodytes who believe that blustering around with ATVs, semiautomatic firearms and children is the American way to achieve goals.
Teach your children well.

This one is moving. Helmets for the kiddies? What helmets?

I really hope that AR-15 is loaded and off safety
Love the patriotic T-shirt

he Organized off road clubs are indeed often a shining example of how to behave and contribute.

This is where the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club screwed up many years ago. The forced out the Back Road Explorers Section, a good group of 4WD folks who cared about the land they traveled. Some hot headed wilderness "purists" forced them out in a very short sighted move.

How many of you wear helmets while climbing? Do your kids?
Yes, and yes. As well as downhill skiing and bicycling. A child's brain is a terrible thing to waste.
Mine's already wasted. I need to conserve as much of it as I can.

Gary
good point, but then how do you keep out the reckless off road users? The rotten apples spoil the barrel.

Just look at the scene around Index Washington. Most forest service roads have been closed and gated specifically to try to keep the drunk gun and ATV nuts out

This aggression must not stand, Mr Obammy tear down that gate.

But without an openly carried gun, can you really call it "free?"

Concealed carry is aid.

As a former resident of shell rd, 5th house on right before the locked gate.
..I have to agree with Dingus..

edit from below..Before the dam was built (the Bureau of Reclamation) ..it was private cattle ranching land with a locked gate..no public use of any kind . I knew the former owner.

I think all users have a right to use certain lands...some lands cannot take the abuse/use by certain users....period.

We have evolve.

Some groups haven't.

I live in Ouray where four wheelers congregate in summer and I climb a lot on BLM land. While the majority of four wheelers are responsible, a significant minority are not....to the extent that, taken as a whole, they are not a desirable user group on public lands.
