Do you guys know about the Galleons of Spain, sending treasure and communications through Mexico City? I was talking with the Postmaster of the RPI at a Philatelist's event in Chicago some years ago, and he showed me his display of the letters from Asia that were sent through Mexico City to the Pacific. Consul Balmesada had provided me with an introduction. So neat, to talk with someone who knew some of the family who stayed in RPI. One of the safe places to go, from Spain, in those interesting years around 1500. :) Makes for interesting bits of family history.

That was uplifting!
Especially since I skipped Meeting this morning to stack firewood and help with sawing up one big, dead, toppled ponderosa pine. We were out in G*d's playground, rather than in our own self-imposed lovely, warm cage. :)
So, thank you for a nice ending to the day.
I am also enjoying all the postcards. Thank you Mouse.
Tomorrow is Monday! Egads!

I got lost on all the political threads lately and I don't think I have the stomach or temperament and have been bouncing around on the stuportopico for a bitter bit now and for once it was nice to stop in here and see my young old side going along with the flow beside the fire with some vinyl and the old log cabin warm glow bookshelves full of memories and the oh so mellow conversation of the few who seem to get along so well it's just the bushy bullshit bushman at it again he'd like to take his shoes off and sit a spell.
This is one of my most cherished memories and thought it might visit here for a while before it decides where next to go.

I don't know if I've seen that image that you posted ^ before. Is there a link to the story? Or are you the link? I had just shared a link to our ice tower (in Fairbanks) with a guy in another forum, and later, I'll tell him the story. People in Arizona were complaining about the cold, then thought better of it when one guy from Alaska mentioned ice quakes.
Yes, the Flames is certainly a sanctuary, a place of peace, here on the Taco. We have such an interesting anthropology of the tribe here. So many beautiful spirits gathered around a shared passion, then dancing off in individual, unique directions, listening to our own songs of life. Lovely.
Tomorrow is Monday. Much to do. Time to sleep.

They do me at three or four am - for sure, while they also depress me.

I just put more wood in the fire, and it is very chilly here tonight, so I may be up again to keep the house at a comfortable 64F.

I cannot imagine that the 1421 Chinese gift to the Pope of steel manufacturing secrets had much of an impact on Damascus, where the papal influence was nil. Nor could it have affected much the production of Toledo steel, which had largely died off by the 1400s, apparently.
That's one kind of steel.

Herr E's rack would have sounded more like click click than clang clang, which these pitons would have. Note the "clean" look of the hammer and these pitons. It's a trick: they are unclean!
