German teacher wrote 'anarchy' on door of house
"A local German teacher who wrote the word anarchy on the door of a house as he was walking home appeared before Carlow District Court last week.
Alan Holland of 6 Tyndal Court, Carlow was charged with carrying out a defacement by writing on a structure and with being intoxicated to such an extent as to be a danger to himself and others at Burrin Street on March 24, 2002.
Garda Joe O'Regan said that he was on patrol when he saw the defendant kneeling at the door of a house. As he approached, he saw that Holland had written on the door. 'He was slightly intoxicated and I arrested him,' Garda O'Regan stated.
'Did you know the people who lived there,' Judge Mary Martin asked the defendant. 'I didn't,' he admitted as he revealed that he used chalk to write on the door.
Defending solicitor Ann-Maire Blake said that her client, who works in the local VEC, had been out for three pints on a Saturday night and had written, in German, the word 'anarchy' on the door. 'It was a moment of impulse,' she said.
Judge Mary Martin remanded the defendant on continuing bail until June 26, 2002 and ordered him to complete an alcohol awareness programme and pay 500 to St. Catherine's Social Services in Carlow."

On the island of Mallorca, it hardly ever rains.
One year a fellow went there and went to some great pains
To write an opus on Roman times that since has passed the test
Of what it takes to be a winning mini-series on the PBS.
Rob't. Graves took one frantic year to write I, Claudius.
He only wrote on rainy days, however.
He considered it more of a challenge.
Only diddling ya, there...
'Despite their critical and monetary success, Graves later
professed a dislike for the books and their popularity,
according to some. He claimed that they were written only from
financial need on a strict deadline. Nonetheless,
they are today regarded as pioneering masterpieces of historical fiction.'
All I know is it was an exotic read and I'd just finished it
when the PBS started broadcasting the mini-series.
Carlow,
I liked that bit about the teacher being ironic. He didn't even know the owners of that house. That's mini-anarchy, I think.
It is a federal rap in the US now, what with Homeland Suckurity and sh#t blowing up all over the world.
Next installment: Blow-Up
I don't know yet that on which we shall be focusing, but it will be on something Off Topic, you betcha!

Hooblie's post from the Jazz this yonder Sunday it's a good choice, better by far than let's go ridin' in my car-car.
I had a photo-fix a few minutes ago, going outside to shoot the after-dawn for a change==it's Sunday.
I felt Laval-headed out on the fiery escape from Middle Earth, but by the time I got to the fifth floor I was fine again.
All the same, in all candidness, I'm going back to bed cuz I need my rest for Facelift is just beyond that set of icebergs on the horizon.

The REALITY FOOD CHANNEL.
Home of the solid meal.
My name is Blanche Water. I'm a guy just like you, boys and girls. I just like to cook and wear a pretty apron, though, more than anything.
I know some of you are in love with your tongues, but us overweight people are more concerned with filling up than killing our food budgets.
Simple food and lots of it make for simple pleasures, leaving more time to eat. Here is one which is the basis of either a great lunch or quick dinner.
I'd suggest a regular can of beans for you as a side for this. Or tomato soup.
Wasn't that simple? I'm enjoying another Cafe Bustelos cappuchino right now! Twenty cents a serving compared to God-know-what at Starbutt's.

Bloomers, bloomers, bloomers.
Oh, yeah...
I mentioned food. Then I thought, pop tarts, of which I have none. I do have some Pop Lavals, though. That's where I was thinking of going when I hit that doob (a "dawnbreaker," as Brother Tim calls it).
So food gets top billing this morning.
Zapp’s Park—The Scene Of Many Enjoyable Moments In Fresno’s Past
Top of the morning to all you nice foldks out there.
Most of you are acquainted with the southwest corner of Olive and Blackstone Avenues. I am sure many of you old timers will remember that wonderful recreation area known as Zapp’s Park.
I know that ever so many of you newcomers will be surprised to know that here was located one of the finest amusement parks anyone could ask for, with a large swimming pool, a giant roller coaster, ferris wheel, small zoo, pony carts and dance platform.
In the zoo there were lions and bears, and wild birds of various kinds. There were lunch tables along the lake where families would come and enjoy an evening picnic lunch during the summer. And, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THERE WERE NO ENTRANCE FEES! The only fees charged were those for rides on the merry-go-round, or in the pony carts, the ferris wheel or the roller coaster. Oh, yes there was a small fee for the dancers.
This magnificent park was owned by Mr. and Mrs. John Zapp. Mrs. Zapp was a former circus performer, performing on two beautiful white horses on which she often appeared in parades downtown. Her husband also used to join in these parades, always bringing with him his pet performing bear.
I must tell you of one incident that happened to the family and myself. We were enjoying a family picnic along the shore of the lake one evening when a youngster, who was playing too close to the water, fell in. He went under a couple of times before I had jumped in and pulled him out. We soon pumped the water out of him and he seemed none the worse for this mishap.
Cleaned Clothes
His father, who turned out to be a local tailor, came rushing up to me and, of course, thanked me profusely for saving his son, and offered to clean and press all my clothes for me.
Bye Now, I’ll Be Seeing You.

I'm glad to hear from you anytime. This week is Facelift and I'm short of gas. Petrol, in Oslo.
Fletcher called from Fresburg last night.
This picture is for him. He's coming to rescue fair maiden from the tower.
It's all so quixotic making plans with not much dinero.
Gracias, Sir Eric, and watch for windmills, por favor.
neebee, it's a lot of work looking back through here.
There should be an official in command directing traffic rather than quixoticism.
Now THAT was an unplanned birth of a word. I'll bet it's not been used on the Taco before.
You look up your words and I'll just invent mine.
Great deeds to be done today.

Timid: Care for some Hot Tuna with that celery?
On the Tunies production line (undated photo).
San Diego businessman C. Arnholt Smith bought some local canneries in 1948. In a 1992 interview, he told the Reader: "One guy who worked for us got the bright idea of making hot dogs out of tuna for the Catholic trade. They were called Tunies. They tasted and looked just exactly like a hot dog. Actually tasted better than a hot dog, I think. The poor guy worked his brains out perfecting that. They were in the store, but they just didn't seem to take over."
Tunies did sponsor a Little League team in Chula Vista. I wasn't on it. I played for the mortuary team.
Free Jimi Hendrix concert.
Free Coronado trolley.
Free ferry rides for passengers (10 cents), interestingly enough, on the San Diego to and from San Diego - Coronado.
