Jesus preached a message that concerned salvation, love, and care for the poor and those in need. He'd definteatly vote Bernie given these choices.

But of course many American Christians are bigots and are really at odds with wwjd.
Jesus had contempt for tax collectors. Didn't like them at all.

Seeing Christians ask WWJD always saddens me, because that question ignores the fundamental tenet of Christianity, viz. Jesus is God who came to redeem the world from sin. Jesus would do what God would do. We aren't God.

Non-Christians rightly throw that in our faces because we follow Christ only imperfectly. That said, I take issue with both statements above as follows:

1. Jesus (and the entire Old Testament) absolutely cared for the poor and helpless. He also, however, severely condemned those who laid the burden on others, rather than also on themselves. Bernie's message can be oversimplified (but not that oversimplified) to everything for free, and you'll just pay a little more because the 1% will be the ones really paying for everything. Aside from being untrue, because the 1% don't make enough money to pay for everything Bernie advocates that the government give away, it's also refusing to shoulder loads equally.

Also, Jesus never advocated forcing economic outcomes through compulsion. When someone approached Him to ask that He compel his brother to divide the inheritance with him, Jesus said "Man, who made me a judge. . ." When the crowds in the wilderness were far from civilization, and in need of food, he told His disciples "You give them something to eat," not "Make the rich give them something to eat."

It is true that the earliest Christians (at least in Jerusalem) held all things in common, forming a true Fabian Socialist society, but there is a big moral difference between joining a voluntary association where this is done, and advocating a law that says someone else should pay a lot more so I can pay less.

2. Jesus loved tax collectors (see, e.g., the encounters of Jesus with Matthew and Zaccheas.) The latter is one of my Biblical heroes, because he was too short to see Jesus above the crowd, so he climbed a tree to get a view. He may be history's first recorded short climber. Jesus hated sin, included dishonesty by tax collectors, but he loved sinners. Moreover, he instructed us to pay our taxes ("Render unto Caesar. . .")

Ultimately, though, Jesus would not concern His time on earth with the political process, except to love all who were involved, even as He condemned their sin. His Kingdom is not of this world. Perhaps Judas Iscariot's disappointment with that fact led to his betrayal. In any case, I always find it blasphemous to say that the United States was, is, or will be a Christian nation. Only one Christian nation exists, and it's the fellowship of all believers. None of Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and any of the other candidates who claim to be people of faith have any true leadership role in that Kingdom.

Here's a new four Pinocchio lie for ya: trump's claim that his border wall would cost 8 billion.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/02/11/trumps-dubious-claim-that-his-border-wall-would-cost-8-billion/?hpid=hp_hp-more-top-stories_factchecker-trumpwall-330pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory

That's right, Donald fans: your straight talking, truth speaking, non-pc guru thinks you're stupid enough to believe his bullsh#t. Oh yeah, Mexico is supposed to pay for it. LOL.

Really? Not even a little nervous that they could end up in the Whitehouse. That could be a big gamble on Hillary and all her baggage.

The laws of physics and nature have never, ever, bent bent even a tiny bit.

No "miracle" directed or commanded by an Etherial Spirit has ever happened.

It is 2015, we no longer need to live our lives in confused terror, we no longer need
to bury a newborn upside by the door because the local spiritual leader said we should do so in order to insure that lightning will not destroy this year's crops.

We no longer need to enslave, rape, and murder other humans because it says
so in an ancient text written by scared and largely ignorant sheep herder in the middle east and then proclaimed to be the "word of god"

just allowing a little bit of Equal Time for those who don't buy the god stuff.......

James Brennan: I' never claimed to be infallible - as a matter of fact, I have tried to make a point of apologizing for my mistakes, especially for errors of fact.

It's a pity that you aren't adult enough to make an effort to atone for your latest unprovoked, clearly uninformed, protracted and vicious attack against me.

I certainly don't expect rational behaviour from you towards me in the future, so I'll do my best to ignore you.

Trump threatens to sue Cruz for 'not being a natural born citizen'

The suit has already been filed thanks to Texan Newton Boris Schwartz, Sr.

Is another one necessary or just more publicity for the Trumpet.

zBrown, it's not like anybody in the Americas was running all over the African continent with big butterfly nets scooping up darkies to enslave them. The Africans have been enslaving each other for thousands of years, and the Europeans were johnny-come-lately as a fresh market for the supply.
