"i was just walking to my truck after the lifts closed. shoulda punched him. i almost told him off but decided to just ignore it cuz who knows if he was violent or not."

talk about complexity! yikes! maybe he was a match for you if you wanted to punch him? just messsin, but the irony was so thick in that sentence I had to mention it.

I don't want to make light of anything where Woody's accident is concerned. I didn't interact with him much, but since he came after me (politically) with both barrels blazing when I did, I'll assume that I wasn't getting the girl treatment from him.

Mimi, as a woman who seems to take herself pretty seriously as a climber and who has hung her own damn rope (or hung the rope for the boyz) atop many challenging climbs, I'd be curious to here your take on this topic.

If a guy tells you that he likes to eat pink re: your wardrobe it's not random. If you just walk up to a guy in the supermarket line who is trying to buy some canned peas and clock him, it's random.

I am having fun reading for this has taken a life of it's own.
---------------------------------------------------

As for Woody... I am thinking more about him than gender relations/social skills/dance. Woody was no b.s. get on the rock and climb, etc. He is leaving a very large hole in this community to match the hole that he is leaving in my life. He was a great partner to us all.

no b.s. get on the rock and climb

Sounds like my kind of person. I am sad to have never met him.

Perhaps the thread should be retitled "Social complexity of being a female"? Apart perhaps from propinquity, there may not be such a lot to distinguish climbing from other activities that girls and boys, and men and women, do together, and the resultant dynamic.

Reading the SF Seeks thread and seeing this link posted reminded me that I never answered Melissa's question as I got floored here when I learned that Woody died. It took all the fun out of any response. Was thinking about him today while at the gym.

Melissa, I am so old now that I don't really remember having these troubles. I was so brash that sensible guys feared me so it was all about the climbng and having fun. The guys I climbed with were mostly pals. Saying no to the rest was easy. Setting the boundary early and focusing on the climbing should do it. If not, see you later, it was real.

What a wonderful person! with brash having changed to exuberant enthusiasm, which maybe it was also back in the day, just misunderstood.

Anyway, it was enchanting and I look forward to meeting her and Steve again, anywhere, anytime...
