Bruce, Ah… the 1970s. There is a story there.
In mid ’77 the FBI raided Scientology in Los Angeles & Washington DC. Biggest government raid on a Church ever. I was not there. There is a Supertopo member who lurks here who was right in the thick of it. I’ll never “out” them, but maybe that person will come forward some day.
I think it was almost 300 agents. Came in tore the place a part and seized our papers. Yes we had a lot of paper then. Dangerous paper.
The end result was 6 executives, and I think the founder’s wife, had to do hard time for 3 months in the federal pen. It was proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they had been using government photocopy machines without permission. This was back when they had just been invented so photocopies were costly.
The government had been after us for decades and we were gathering data for lawsuits to get them to stop it. Since then, all has been resolved. The government let’s us be and many government officials are grateful to us for the help we give them. For the last 24 years or so we have been at peace with the US Gov.
The German government still hates us though.

nobody forces you to stay in scientology.
all you have to do is leave.
if they hassle you, call the cops.
they can be aggressive, i alienated myself from the church one afternoon and was smokin a joint at the frat house and her comes Norm, this wired up curly red haired midget who was in charge of my trip up the ladder, he must have been psychic, he acted pretty OT even though he was only grade 4 anyway,he's like, "he dude, whats up, i like the allman brothers Blue Sky (best morning joint smokin tune in the world) but you can't smoke weed and go OT!
so i got back "on track" and coffee and ciggies were the thing.
see, i wanted to "infiltrate" the Program. work both ends at the same time, study seizmology in the day time, smoke weed and listen to Pink Floyd at night, kind of a "hybrid" enlightenment. that's why i took Training only.
i wanted to learn the secret code before they used it on me, get it?
i was a double EE at davis, i wanted the A squared plus B squared sh#t because i was curious about tech sh#t for the mind,i could care less about clearing the planet, i wanted to know what all the fuss was about without paying, kind of like you guys,
that way i could do it myself and save money (kind of like masturbation) but called coffee shop auditing)but it don't work that way. i figured weed is good, scientology is really cool, why not combine them and have the total edge?
well the problem is you can not audit out past life BS while on weed, because weed is great, but while on it, you have the awareness of a monkey;s as#@&%e, but this is why we smoke it! to tune it all out.
there was a Lot of "non standard tech" being applied back in the seventies.
LRH can not be everywhere at once, so if you have 8, million, there is gonna be trouble somewhere, simply because you can not control that many people in a precise fashion.
there were a lot of ex acid heads and pot heads and beer drinkers and hell raisers back then, can you imagine the church full of these types without the drugs?
i mean, imagine Neal Cassidy doing the Drug Rundown (where they try to audit out all bad trips and awareness problems)he would have to spend 3 million bucks just to get that course done.
there were many letters sent by Ronnie, one of them was Blinkless TR-0.
somebody mis-understood the comm course drill where you sit across from somebody and stare at them without moving, talking, or blinking.
it was a Flunk if you blinked.
many people learned how not to blink in at the Davis mission.
he said " i really appreciate you guys being that committed to where you have trained yourselves to do the impossible, which is don't blink, but guess what? The eye need to blimk!"how somebody twisted this easy drill into something really weird, i don't know,
i bet if you do a search, you can find the HCOB on blinless tr-0.
so the people were f*#king up the tech, not ron.
this is a source of constant irratation for the church, and many auditing sessions have been given to people who have been mis-handled in some form or another.there is a strong effort to keep this crap from happening, as the bad PR gets blown into such weird sh#t by the time it hits the papers.
LRH also wrote volumes on business management that are used by non scientology companies everywhere.
if you get a chance to read this stuff, you will see the genius at his best,
there are people who are already like OT-7 scientologist in life who have had no auditing or scientology of any kind,
they don't need it, they are born naturally clear,
an example of that might be Joe Montana, or some other super over achiever,
these lucky folks don't need nuthin to kick ass,
but do not envy them, envy is the quickest way to hell, right?
L Ron did not come up with all the stuff, he just condensed everything he learned from mny different areas and made it his own.
what is the Goal of scientology?to keep you in PT, Present Time.
this means never dwelling on he past for one second.
always the future,
the better you have your sh#t together, the further you think into the future,
herion addict thinks about next fix, OT 7 thinks about avoiding the black hole that he will encounter while traversing the universe in 29,7889,989, get it?
how many people can say they have never spent a moment thinking about past problems?
well, when your OT, you are always in present time. if something f*#ks up, you handle it quick and get back on the time track,
a speeding ticket will stop you on your time track, a DUI will really stop you in time, you will worry about a past moment while everybody is moving ahead,
sometimes really bad things happen along the time track that can hang you up for years, a death in the family, getting fired, getting in a bad accident,
what you want to do is keep moving along the time track without getting stuck on say, 1989 when you lost your stock or some other BS.
so the goal is to stay in PT and not get hung up and if you do, handle it.

Lately, she does look better, like a burden has been lifted. I kinda get the feeling she never really fully bought into Scientology in the first place.

there are a couple of interesting listings of "famous" scientologists. i'd say maybe 10 percent are names which are generally recognizable. the rest are actors who had a role in a movie or television show which might be recognizable. and not much "famous" outside of showbiz.
you do have to hand it to scientology--it has a considerable presence in hollywood. it doesn't take much inducement for a frustrated youngster off the bus from terre haute to walk in the front door of their "celebrity center" to see what it's all about and decide maybe it's the ticket to networking in a cold, cruel industry.
the ranks of scientology are heavy with the pretty. hollywood is flooded with the merely pretty trying to cash in on--being merely pretty. then you have those who've gotten themselves miserably addicted to one drug or another. some turn to christianity. i guess scientology has its own offering. if life got better for you, you have my congratulations. maybe you never did much thinking for yourself in the first place, so you don't even miss it.

Big Mike - Thanks for asking. I see you are a real climber too.
1. Communication - as in stuff you never learned from school or at home. Scientology offers a Communication course at the front door. Communication as in to talking to people and being understood. This is the true foundation of the whole movement. Upper levels just lead you to being better at just getting on with others. I'm currently on my 25th anniversary retread of the professional level communications training required to work as a counsellor. In going over the material again I found some hidden gems that will help me to listen to others and be less of an overbearing as#@&%e at times. My climbing partners should notice a difference.
2. Understanding human emotion. In the book Science of Survival, Hubbard lays out a Chart of Human Evaluation and explains each part of it in detail. This is some really valuable information that allows me to accurately predict human behavior. This allows me to make friends with just about anyone and has helped me greatly in surviving a career in the Los Angeles advertising agency scene.
3. Dealing with problems in life. Helping get past the petty problems that are thrust on me and onto some nice big ones that are problems of my choosing.
4. Financial Conditions; There is a very workable philosophy from the book Introduction to Scientology Ethics. Following these common sense steps can get you through rough times and into the black. I have made way more money throughout my life because of this than I would have otherwise. Making money is not a matter of luck. It is a matter of effectiveness.
There are many other facets to this philosophy but these would be the top 5 every day useful things.
