It was beautiful up there today. Lots of snow.

The good:

The bad: took out a 2 month old tire on a rock.

And the other one: sorry I didn't get pics of me.

On my iPhone so can't do much taco searching but are there places to eat in the meadow right now? We're heading up tonight and staying in the valley then driving in tomorrow morning to check it out for the first time with my parents.

NO. Try the Mono Market in Lee Vining, 7am to 10pm.

Mobil station at the bottom of the pass is good, but pricey.

The report below on 4.12 says there is only 19 inches of snow in the meadows. That can't take long to melt/plow, right? http://yosemiteblog.com/2012/04/12/an-update-from-the-tuolumne-meadows-rangers/

Apparently Monitor Pass (89) is open as of this morning... Could be a good sign.

When I'm driving down from Hood River, Carson City and Max's place is my first stopping point. After that it's like the Wizard of Oz movie where everything changes to color. Once I hit Tioga and the Meadows it's all ultra technicolor, vibrant and beautiful!

The govt. is broke.

You all have to do it by hand as volunteers.

Are ya up for it?

Bring your shovels and start shoveling .....

So, I've never approached from the East Side. I'm hoping to get up to Mt Dana the weekend of May 5th, and trying to figure out access options.

If the pass is closed - do I have to park at the gate outside Lee Vining and hike up the road to Tioga? Anyone know how long that hike is?

I hear rumor they open the gate at least to allow fishing access, even if the pass isn't fully open yet.

Any insight?
