Bobby, I heard about your accident the day before I left for Asia. It's been hard being a world away wondering how you are doing. I've thought about you everyday since I've left, always waiting for the email that says you're well and cracking jokes with the nurses.
As each day passes memories flood my mind. I can see you now on top of Huyana Potosi laughing as I gasped up the final summit ridge. Where did a cigar smoking, scotch drinking cowboy get such big lungs?
I'll never forget how you barreled down Lava Falls like a pro. Not bad for a rookie! I still can't believe you won the best boatman award even though I had 15 years rowing experience on you!
You always had a way of making things look so easy. I can hear you now saying, "Come on Willy!", as you led the charge down something I'd come up with, but you somehow stepped up to show me how it was done.
From the simple pleasures of drinking gin and tonics by the pool after climbing Mt. Kenya, to suffering through the worst basecamp cook in the history of climbing in the Quimsa Cruz, I've enjoyed every minute of your unabashed commentary.
Even though I haven't seen you much in the past year, you always made an effort to stay in touch. Your phone calls from the wilds of Pakistan or the African bush to just say hello were more than appreciated. I always got a kick out of telling my friends, "excuse me while I take this call from the Baltoro Glacier".
So Bobby, keep fighting. I've seen you do so much in your life that I know you can conquer this new challenge. Know that all the folks from the Grand, Bon, myself and the Salt Lake crew, Peter in Gremany, and everyone else we've crossed paths with over the years are all pulling for you. I"m looking forward to hearing your voice calling again from some far away place saying, "Hey Willy........
Take care my friend,
Will

hey there all...

this is for friends that are interested in learning about seizure and head injuries, so that you will be prepared to help in the long run---if need be... if this is too much to think on now, please feel free not to check it out.... it is in regard to our returning war-soldiers... and what they will most likely face 3-5 years down the road, after recovering...

i know it sounds hard, to learn these things... but even as gals give birth, it is easier for them when they learn what their bodies are doing, then there is no fear or panic, etc... and all goes smoother..... so:

if one knows more of how the brain responds, one will not be a fearful, and one will be able to face overwhelming situationa and overcome and conquer in MOST WONDERFUL ways...

god bless to all.... hope this helps folks that may be learning of new things...

PLEASE NOTE... ON OCCASIONS, this website below will say: ERROR JRUN, or some-such-nonsense, as we all call it :)
but please, try again, sooner or later, it will work...thanks for the try:

Bobby -
I would like to remind you of the first yoga class I dragged you to . . . after which you took to dropping into warrior 2 and booming out your newly learned mantra - "Love is my weapon!" (For those not present - yoga posed no greater challenge to his stunning athleticism than anything else.)

So, Bobby, call on your warrior spirit now and remember LOVE IS YOUR WEAPON!

Love YOU!

Bobby: Eric and I are planning on riding in to Robber's Roost for the weekend. I have a good feeling I can get some stories out of him about you all in your younger years on the ranch. We'll be praying for you as we venture out. I hear there has been bear sign there this week. I'd love to see one...but then again, not too close!

Joe and gang: there is a guy here in Meeteetse that had a brain injury last year. His brain was functioning at 10% at one point and I just talked to him in Wal-Mart last week! They predict a full recovery...just takes time. Thought that was encouraging after your last report!

Thanks, Joe, for posting these updates, you have no idea how much we look forward to them. Any news, no matter how small, helps keep the hope alive, so please keep them coming.

Hey Bob-Meister,

As you can imagine, my thoughts have been with you a lot recently and I remember fondly the New Year's in Montana and that time in Nairobi when we hung out with Faith and your friend Peter from Germany. Really, I don't know why people keep referring to you as anal ... you totally let us invade your space, the three of us were camping in your living room and we spent a good deal of time hanging out on the little porch, drinking Tuskers and smoking Sportsmans. It was such a healthy break too ...

In any event, as is often the case, I associate a certain music to that time and a few months after I moved to the Turks and Caicos, Faith sent me a kick-ass CD with some of those songs. Now, all I need to do is close my eyes, hear the first notes and I am back in Karen, hanging out with you, and having a devil of a good time. So, in an attempt to take you back there, and maybe give you yet another nudge to wake up, here is a list of some of the songs. Faith can read out the titles to you, and maybe she can also sing some of them to you, and ... No, wait, that would be cruel and unusual: Faith, why don't you just read him the titles. Here goes:
OAR Crazy game of poker (the really long version ...)
Nelly - no matter what I do (all I think about is you)
The Wallflowers - closer to you
Finely Quaye - (nothing can compare to when you roll the) Dice
 Outkast - Caroline
Tori Amos - A sorta fairy tale
 Coldplay - Beautiful World
 Jack Johnson, Flake
and one of my favorites, Dixie Chicks - Cowboy Take me away
Now, there is also one about "real american heroes, mister underwear inspector # 12" but that one I'd rather forget ...

OK, bud, that's it for today, I need to go for a bike ride, my next tri is in less than three months and I need to get the miles in. Rest peacefully, but feel free to come back to us as soon as you're OK with it. We're waiting for you!

As always, hug everyone for me,

Charlotte

Hi bobby, I sent you another prayer yesterday, this time on the beach of the Oregon Coast. I wrote Heal Bobby!!! in the sand at low tide. I started thinking about how far that prayer had to travel to get to you. Which way did the tide take it? Pacific Ocean to the straigts of the China Sea , to the Indian Ocean and finally around the Cape of Good Hope. It sounds PERFECT!!
As you have already heard some of us have planned a reunion in Cody for the 4th of July. I tried to get Sonja to come too but her baby is due any day now so she'll have to stay in Jackson Hole. By the sounds of the progress your making, maybe you could fit it into your busy schedule too.
Keep fighting. I remember something you used to say, Mono Y Mono and then you'd kiss your bicepts. I always figured it was a quirky climbing thing.Dig deep, find your holds, and mono y mono.
Love Heather.

Dear Bobby,

Get well soon. The world needs fine fellows like you to keep it on the straight and narrow.
Keep the old sailors adage that, "All storms pass" in mind and the journey will be shorter.
You are in in our thoughts. Be strong!

With kindness,

I just heard about your accident Bobby, I didn't know you all that well, just the little I remember from the ski team in Cody. You were quite a great skiier, with a crazy personality that not a one on the ski team could forget. You will be in my families hearts and prayers, even after you recover.

I've been thinking of you daily since your accident and sending positive healing energy your way. I also send my love but there is certainly no shortage of that coming your way.
I met Bobby on a 17day river trip. Bobby's not a fan of water or a swimmer but on day 3 or so he decided to become a boatman. Learning to row a raft on the mighty Colorado river through the Grand Canyon. Of course Bobby took to it like a natural.Thank goodness. I was hanging on for dear life with a rookie rowing my boat! Rowing through the likes of Crystal and Lava falls (BIG water for those who are unfamiliar) with style. OK so maybe not Crystal we got out of that on on pure luck after a wild spin or two!
Bobby broke an oar on his first or second rapid and still managed to take a great line!
Faith, Bobby spoke so highly of you and I do know for certain that he would take that concrete to the head a thousand times so that it didn't hit you.
I wish your family strength through this very difficult time.

Hi Stacey
You don't know me, I am a friend of Kelly Larrabee, I
met Bobby through her when I was working in Kenya last
year. She sent me an email informing me of the
accident Bobby had a little while ago.

I just wanted to express my deepest sympathies to his
family, and to let them know I am keeping him and them
in my thoughts...I really enjoyed the little time I
spent with Bobby, he made a very positive impact on me
during my time there, as did his sister.

Thank you,
Sincerely,
Janka Flaska

Bobby,

You and I have only met a few times as we always seemed to miss each others trips to Nairobi, but I always kept up with your adventures through Faith and the Sinnarys. When I think of you I always remember the first time I met you in ’99 when you came to visit Faith just as she was finishing her internship with SFS. You gave an incredible slideshow of your photos and blew everyone away. Photo after photo my vertigo kicked in as you showed amazing shots of rock climbers dangling from insane heights. I remember thinking of a quote about Ginger Rogers… that she did everything Fred did but backwards…and in heels. A similar thought kept coming to mind with each photo highlighting these climbers and their amazing feats… You were doing the same insane climbs, at the same insane heights but you were doing them with your camera equipment…and still managing to make beautiful art.
If anyone has the strength and courage to pull through such an unfortunate incident it is you. Add to that the amazing love and strength of your family and friends and there is no way you won’t pull through this.
You and your family are in my thoughts and I am sending all the positive energy that I can muster up.

Love,

Jaime
