Good one, but I think it was from "being completely tone deaf" to the wishes of a sizable majority of the party.
The Republicans turned out in record numbers in the primaries, yes. But Trump did not get a sizable majority in any state. He averaged about 2/5ths. The other 3/5ths was split among too many other candidates. By the time the field was whittled down it was over.
So the logical conclusion to draw from the record turnouts is that the majority were motivated to vote against Trump.
I like your sh*t sandwich analogy. This election proves that scum floats.
The Reps should have run Rubio. He'd flatten Clinton. So if your position is anyone but Clinton, he'd have been your man. I can't see anything now that can save the Trump campaign. He can't get any moderate voters now, or independents. They'll either sit it out (his only hope other than a new bigger Clinton scandal) or vote for Clinton.
But what really galls me is that he has ignored the down ticket candidates. The nominee is pro forma leader of the party, and should have been out there campaigning for other Republicans. Not that they want him now.
But I think that even most liberals, were they to really think about it, would see the danger in the Dems having the White House, Congress, and the Court all at once. I fear this is where we are heading.
So which sandwich? I am beginning to think the best possible outcome with the cards we are dealt is for Clinton to win the white house and the Republicans to hold the House and take the Senate. If she's anything like old Bill, she'll be much better at dealing with Congress than Pres. Obama. Both sides will have to give and take, and the bus won't go off the cliff.
And there is no way she'll be able to run for a second term.
So after all that blah blah blah, we all know that anything can, and probably will happen before Nov. Happy times.

I'm thinking Slovenia is probably a good place to move to - when all of Melania's commie relatives show up to live in the Whitehouse. Wow - the first Lady will be a commie - how's that going to sit with the right-wing dinosaurs?

It should have been us, man...
nah, we would not have survived even mild vetting
too many people would have come forward with damaging tales to tell...
I did this with Norton in 1996 and Locker did that in 1983
truth is, we were pre-f*#ked....best we keep a low profile a Uge while longer....

Amazing to watch the republicans fumble in trying to explain how Trump got to where he is.
Even funnier to think Rubio would be the right choice to beat Hillary.
No wonder the party is where it is.

You don't understand, 10b4me. When Trump presided over the inevitable disaster, the radio pundits could say he's not a true conservative, e.g., "We just wanted to get rid of the RINO leadership in the House and Senate. We didn't mean him!" All they need is a cause for complaining. Not a rational cause for complaining.

Bob, Nationally, 29M Reps voted. 13M is not a majority.
Yes, he won Ca. I wasn't paying attention.
You keep saying it's my party. I'm not registered Republican. I do think it is very important to have at least one opposition party. Our system of government is by nature adversarial. If one group gets their hands on all the levers of power bad things will happen.

I may need to reconsider my opinion of Clinton's dishonesty. She promised to raise taxes on the middle class at a rally today. The audience (and, most likely, the press) didn't seem to notice.

Ransom has been paid!!!
This thread will live on. And of course it was a Republican that paid, since those Democats just want free stuff but don't want to actually pay for it. Philanthropy is all Republican and you can look it up. The tight wallet Dems are just takers, not givers. FACT.
(this does not mean another ransom will not be requested in the future. That is the way #ThreadTerrorists operate.
Thanks for the payment... it will be put to good use!

John, surely you are trolling or making a joke?
you do not realize that humans, even politicians, are very capable of speaking and having the words not come out the way intended?
perhaps this from Snopes will help you understand?
Given the context of her statement and the audience's positive reaction to it, it appears that Clinton actually said "we aren't going to raise taxes on the middle class," but either she didn't fully enunciate the ending of the word "aren't" or the word didn't come through clearly on the audio recording (or both). Worst case, she simply misspoke and said "are" when she meant "aren't," because she has not announced any changes to her tax platform or said on any other occasion that she plans to raise taxes on the middle class and not the wealthy.
but yes John, perhaps it IS time you "reconsidered" voting for Hillary
you seem to be more comfortable in your natural state - believing the worst about both Democrats and Democratic legislation

Here is a good example of possible bias, of wanting to believe the worst about someone.
This photo clearly shows Mr. Trump not joining his fellow Republicans in honoring the America flag during a debate ceremony.
Or does it?
Now, IF one was predisposed through their own personal dislike of his party or Mr. Trump's hair it could be easily seen as an act of extreme "hatred of America" or very unpatriotic or all kinds of ugly conclusions.
However those who may possess say a tad deeper intellect would give this matter a little more thought before reacting irrationally and emotionally and simply conclude that Mr. Trump may have been the first to drop his hand from his heart at the conclusion of the anthem, or what other reasonable explanation.
