Blubber bump!

How's it going, everybody?

I took my kid to the doc yesterday. Turns out we have influenza. We had flu shots in October, so hoping that will reduce the duration.

Two days ago, my cognitively-impaired, hyperthyroid cat had a massive splat of diarrhea in the bathroom where he was confined for the wee hours of the night. He paced in it and shook his paws and managed to uniformly coat the lower 3 feet of walls, plus floor. The only exercise I've had since Friday is four hours of scrubbing poo while delirious. Good way to reduce appetite, though.

Down 6. I dunno, gonna be a tough haul to drop the rest. Never give up, never surrender, or something.

Down 11 and sort of not sure if I should continue this aggressive diet to get to the weight I wanted to get to, as I feel it isn't the healthiest, doesn't allow enough energy to feel fine all day and it does not let me recover from workouts as well. 168 yesterday in the evening. My original goal was 164/5.

A few friends and I did South Face of Watkins in a day from Happy Isles on Saturday and by the end of it I felt fairly wasted. The descent took forever due to all the snow on top, postholing and sh#t. I think took like over 7 hours to get back to the car, which sucked. 23 hour day. After that I literally inhaled half a box of granola with a protein shake, went to sleep, woke up 5 hours later, inhaled the other half and felt bad about all that. The week so far, has been going ok at the gym and with the calorie cutting. However, I got on my usual cardio machine last night and experience cramps in my legs. Obviously, I am still feeling the Watkins outing, which was Saturday.

Yes. After a stall I'm a loser again. Hoping I make it all the way (well for this first step).

We went out to our favorite sake bar last night, thinking that we'd finished the bottle of sake we usually keep there at our last visit, so we'd be safe. No such luck. They pulled out half a bottle we had left over. I also figured all I wanted was the grilled fish heads - sooo good, healthy too - but no, they were all out. We had sashimi, and a bit of seaweed salad. Cool. But no, Yukisan, the chef, gave us a bunh of monkfish liver. Well, sure... and then suddenly there's a pile of deep fried salmon skin in front of us. If you insist!

Needless to say I still have a bit to go before I don't owe any of you people money :)

One week to go!

Not looking good for me. I'm stuck at 6 pounds and change and still too sick to take on any real cardio. Did twenty minutes yesterday at an easy pace, but I'm afraid of sucking gunk deeper into my lungs.

On the bright side, half my clothes are now too big. I guess I'll be hitting the thrift store.

Down five. Slow descent on the scale. I have been pretty active and pulling harder, must have converted a bit to muscle.

What I have realized during this challenge and reading everyone's posts is that I have never controlled what I eat. It has been difficult for me to both cut back on portion size and to change up my normal fare.

In 2010 I dropped down to just under 160 over 8 months of Wed and Sunday hiking, missing only two Sundays which were on average in the low 20 miles. I ate whatever I pleased and ballooned back soon after.

This must be why I tend to be too busy eating to take selfies.

After getting down 9 pounds a couple of weeks ago, I'm back where I started. Yikes!

Here we go, good thing there's 31 days in March!

OHH! I totally forgot this thing lasts a month, not four weeks. There is hope for me yet!! Downside: I swore off liquor until the end of the contest thinking it was just a week, and I have a friend's birthday coming up before the deadline. Do I betray my vow or hoist a brew?

Down 6.4 today. I really wanted to ride my bike but couldn't. Maybe by the next break in the weather I will stop hacking up a lung. Managed some bouldering though. Even though I'm mostly half-dead from this stupid flu, I could really feel the weight difference.

Wait we're weighing out April 5th? If we started on a sunday shouldn't we weigh out on a sunday? not that I'm complaining.

Yesterday got a great surprise. Although, I put in more calories in my body during the last week (I was feeling weaker and even got sick), yesterday stepped on the scale and was down to 165 lbs!!! Started at 179. Woot!

From now on, I will focus on maintaining it without the focus on dropping below 160, till I am done with a trip to Alaska in April. Can't go there feeling weak. After the return, will re-assess the weight, maybe train strength for 3 weeks (hangboard/boulder), than drop a few lbs before summer. Must be in alligator wrestling shape. :)

If it is slow, but you are willing to keep at it after the challenge, it is good. As long as we don't go back to eating a ton of empty calories, we can maintain the results.
My personal problem is occasional episodes of binge eating. Very embarrassing to admit, two days ago I was about to go to sleep, than got up, went to the kitchen and ate three Luna/Kind bars. I can control myself during the day, but before I go to sleep, at times I have a craving that it is very hard to cope with. That's pretty much how I got up to 179 from 170. :( During the challenge I was mostly able to control it, or at least limit the number of episodes.

The original challenge was a 30 day challenge so that's how the date were counted up.

I might have ballooned up just a bit but I should be fine.

Vitaliy, if you're going to binge eat, surely you can think of something more appealing than Kind bars!

My tea mugs hold about 24 oz fluid. I have a cup of hot herb tea every night. The heat and the volume really helps with night cravings.

There is an edge on a hangboard I was able to hold on to for only 8 seconds at my peak, ever. Was able to hang for 14! And am able to do one move on the smallest campus board rungs. YES, pathetic compared to all the kinds who can walk that thing, but I could not do a move on it a month ago. So super happy. about that...

I had to have my kitty put to sleep. Miss that little guy. I've eaten too much chocolate in the last couple days.

I'm down 7. Gonna be tough but I'm still hopeful. Usually, I can shave 3 with a big enduro bike ride or something, but I think those easy pounds went away at the start of the month.
