If the choice were to come down to a bloviating xenophobe like tRump and a stable and reasoned Democratic Socialist like Sanders it is my belief that Bernie would easily win in the biggest landslide in US history and could proceed with the strongest mandate to make real substantive change to SOP.

It's almost comical that the republicans can't figure out why he's in the lead. It's obvious. Their news network Faux breeds anger into the base. Their right-wing wacko talk show radio idiots breeds anger into the base. Their "leaders" breed anger into their base. So of course their base is going to support the most racist, angry, xenophobic one of the bunch. He's speaking their language - anger, fear, racism.
But as Mr. Silver points out 80% of likely republican voters are still undecided. So what if the most angry and racist of the bunch are decided and most stand behind Clownstick. Truth is most of this nation and most of this planet is not like that. They are out early supporting him. But I seriously doubt the list of angry bigoted xenophobes is going to grow to the point he gets the nomination.
It is funny watching the core republicans try to figure out what to do about this guy. They f*#king built their base to like everything he says. And now they chomp on that.

Aya was listening to Faux radio (for a change of pace) while driving. She often accuses me of being angry. But I'm not angry. I'm pissed and sometimes quickly irritated. But I found myself getting angry while listening to Faux. It took her awhile to figure out while she was suddenly feeling angry all the time.
I had to remind myself to 'let it go - this is the distorted reality that comes out of this network 24/7/365'. The sad reflection I take away from it is that the right is angry. Just plane angry. They get fed it and appears to displace the sense of reality and fact with anger. Sure, the issues and policies people are angry about have truth - often a good amount. But at least on the left we get to release it through laughing. Their are no right-winged comedians that have any traction in the political realm. Why is it the Colbert, Stewart, Noah, etc. etc. are so funny and successful? Well, one thing is true about comedy - it isn't funny if it isn't true.
It must just suck to support a political party that leaves you angry all the time.

Unfortunately, I think you're right about this. I'm an atheist so I don't relate to the religious faction of the republican party, but I still cling to hope that there is a "fiscal conservative" who can weed through the chaff and reign in spending and stop the debt escalation. I know this is an ideal and won't ever happen in today's republican party. I also know it didn't happen with Obama nor is it likely to happen with the Hildabeast or Bernie.
The repug party continues to shoot themselves in the foot with their adherence to the christian conservative faction. It's pitiful.
The Democrats are just as idiotic. Pick your poison.

On some things it might not make much difference who is in the Whitehouse. But some things would be different. The country will do far more to combat climate change with a Dem.
But the biggest might be the Supreme Court. I don't see Ginsburg making it four more years. If she is replaced with a Democratic president in office, things won't change much. If a Rep prez replaces her. That would be huge. Instead of Kennedy being the swing vote, it might be Roberts.

He could appoint his sister, who is a third circuit judge. He got pissed at a republican senator during her confirmation questioning.

There are bigger evils out there. Toss up.
Of course there are.. But none of them have any chance of being POTUS.
It's worth remembering that the POTUS is always the most dangerous person on earth at least potentially. I'm no fan of choosing one that not only claims but brags of his disrespect for minorities and the constitution.

Fiscal conservative....let's see, the US is doing better than every other industrialized country. The dollar may very well be on par with the euro in the near future but repugs still rant and rave that Obama hasn't done a good job.
The prevailing and persistent myth is that repugs bo a better job than democrats when it comes to security and the economy.
Feel free to look at the history and then do the math.....it simply isn't true. In fact, there is much more evidence for the opposite.
