Anyone else have another opinion. Not exactly another opinion, I agree with your assessment on the metrics. I don't think it should be eliminated, however. It appears to be how it has evolved. It's hard for me to relate fully to it since my style is fully "classic" as well as I wouldn't be able to keep up that style for very long.
Now, to head out for Alpine!!!

Yea, go out and stride up the hills the boys and girls ski up and you will realize that there is loads of striding still in the sport. Only unfit skiers and tourists stride flats...

Dr. F...The olympic x-country courses are much steeper than they look on TV....I would guess that some of the steeper hills would be in the 9% grade category...? Blasting down the other side of these 9% climbs is harrowing at 30 mph with 10 other skiers inches away ...Diagonal striding anything resembling flat terrain is like being in your small chain ring and spinning out..Double poling doesn't interrupt your glide like diagonal striding does and can actually help you recover during the glide phase..

Dr F, you clearly don't understand xc ski racing as it is played at an elite level.
Do you still climb in RDs?

USA played a good game towards Sweden in curling. They lost though.
The Swedes is now #1 on the chart.
Have lost one game, towards Denmark, and they're not in the finals.

I'm a little pissed at NBC. But, not surprised.
Here it is Sunday afternoon, and they choose to air hours of curling. These aren't even medal matches.
I mean really! all that yelling and scrubbing of ice is getting annoying . . .

The broom pushes or sweeps away tiny ice bearings

Dr. F, I would recommend an intro to skiing lesson at a local nordic area...
... do you also whine about the butterfly swimmers that could go faster by doing freestyle, or those silly slalom skiers that could just point em?
Yer funny!

Yup, among most skilled nordic skiers that usually enjoy doing both types of skiing. As a former elite racer I and most of my fellow skiers liked the variety and the balancing of muscle sets it provided.
Usually the citizen skiers in the US prefer skating but across Scando countries most prefer striding and with that huge amounts of double poling.

Dr. F...I'm going to call Werner if you don't knock that sh#t off...! On the World Loppet circuit the elite racers double pole most of the courses..Some of the courses cover 54 miles...If these guys classic skied those 54 miles they would miss out on the whiskey drinking at the finish...

I just checked out Norway's leading paper, Aftenposten. I expected black borders and I wasn't far off.
I think Norway has a new name to rival Quisling - Knut Nystad, the head wax coach.
But congrats to Sverige and a big bravo to France for their bronze.
It was really great to see guys thrilled to be third best in the world.

Knut is a good guy and an excellent wax technician. Let's see how this plays out before jumping in the media conga line.
The Swedes have been upping their game for several seasons and their results would be expected.

Reilly...Nystad's brother Trond is the head coach...Kronyism..? Trond was the US coach a while back...Further back in nordic history , Sweden hired Norways waxing coach when Norway was dominating the sport...The coach walked with a pair of magic skis that Bjorn Dahle was having lots of luck with..Team .Norway sued Team Sweden to get the magic skis back...At this level money is no object in securing an advantage over the rivals..

Personally, I thought what Christen Cooper did to Bode in the interview after his bronze winning race, was deplorable. Who does she think she is, Barbara Walters? Why hammer him on his brother that recently passed? Then the camera that followed him as he broke down and cried, what crap!
