looks like Suarez is in an offside position when the midfielder heads the ball on that last goal

It was Gerrard's head. So no offside.
Once again a below par England. And while Rooney finally scored, I still wasn't too impressed by much of anything he did beyond his level of effort. Gerrard was worse yet. Launched bunch of balls straight out of bounds late in the game instead of trying to play them into the middle.

Suarez was not offside because it was Gerrard who assisted on the goal, not a team mate.
In fact he could have been in an offside position and received the ball legally via a goal kick.
Edit: stevep, you were offside with the explanation! :-)
Ps
When the game started I said the Spanish ref was gonna favor the Uruguayans which he
certainly did by not sending Godin off.

judging by the replay it looks like the Uruguayan midfielder heads the ball not Gerrard

But only if a teammate doesn't touch the ball on the way...correct?

Correct. Steve McManaman thought it came off of Gerrard. More to the point, what the hell
was Cahill thinking? You're the last man standing and you don't have a leash on Suarez?

I love futbol on Supertopo! Go Mexico! Looks like the predictions at the start aren't really panning out. It's really anybody's game as of today.

Leave it to a Brit fan to claim a a South American team has a UEFA ref in their pocket. I thought having refs from a confederation of only one team was a thing of the past since 1966 and the robo del siglo. I thought they are supposed to be from a neutral confederation?
Did you also predict the ref would ignore a Welbeck studs up straight leg challenge to the Keeper's knee and that Sturridge would knock a guy out with his knee without even a yellow card?
Just be happy Rooney finally got his goal. It should be compensation for getting sent off for stomping a guy in the groin in a previous cup. England just wasn't very good, and it might be time for Gerrard to call it quits. Jamielka let a midget beat him on a ball in the air. Cahill might as well have been in the stands on the midget's second goal.
Somebody should tell Joe Hart that laying down is not an effective way to make yourself bigger.
Ian Dark made a big deal about the Uruguayan challenge but was totally mum on the two Brit transgressions. Hardly neutral.

Well, the only way anyone could be neutral during the World Cup would be
to become a eunuch.

here we go again,
the whole country has been living in a euphoric dream since the Uruguay game. We'll probably get the proverbial wake-up call but it has been an amazing atmosphere here. I've never seen a whole country taken over by a sport. Never lived anything like this in the US. And this is just for having won one game. It was 24 years ago today, in Italy, that Costa Rica won 2-1 against Sweden and qualified for their only trip to the sudden death rounds in a World Cup. Are the stars aligned again?

Yay Ticos. That should have been a penalty.
And Lorenzo, I'm not sure how you compare Welbeck's slide to the two deliberate fouls by Godin. Welbeck went after a pretty much 50/50 ball with the keeper. He was single-footed and his foot was not in the air. I'm sure it hurt the keeper to get hit in the kneecap, but I don't think you can really call that a foul, unless you want to prohibit sliding tackles completely.
I don't know that the ref was biased there. He just made a bad decision not carding Godin. Just as the ref in today's game made a bad decision in not awarding the pen. It happens. England might have won had Godin been sent off, but not sure they would have deserved it given how they played.

A studs up straight leg challenge is a straight red card in the Spanish league every time, especially when it is to a keeper. Somehow the ref decides it's ok when it is a UEFA team against Uruguay. Welbeck didn't even get ball, so it wasn't 50-50. And look at his eyes. He's eyeballing the knee.
That he was going for a 50-50 ball means nothing. The laws of the game talk about reckless challenges, not 50-50 balls.
And steamrolling a guy and knocking him out is the very definition of reckless disregard for an opponent, isn't it? It certainly meets the excessive force test.
Careless, reckless, using excessive force
“Careless” means that the player has shown a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or that he acted without precaution.
• No further disciplinary sanction is needed if a foul is judged to be careless
“Reckless” means that the player has acted with complete disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, his opponent.
A player who plays in a reckless manner must be cautioned
“Using excessive force” means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent.
• A player who uses excessive force must be sent off
I submit both england fouls met the requirement for send off.
