First time I ever did SUP in a river last weekend. It's always been in the surf before.
SO FUN!
Of course it's an inferior tool for any serious whitewater, but for a fun float like this it RULES! Better vision in all directions. Doesn't hurt my back or shoulders like a kayak. And a fun challenge to ride the rapids, kind of like balancing in the surf.
Actually I was wishing for some more rapids. It would be fun for me in up to class 3. Way more fun than a raft or kayak where class 3 is often no challenge.
It's a great workout and easy on your body because if you are doing it right it uses mainly core strength. Days when I've done a lot of SUP my back and shoulders (which both give me trouble) feel better at the end of the day.
Flat water does look kinda boring to me, but then so does road biking (bicycles) and tons of people are into that.

Fet, did they rent the boards in the Valley or did you bring with? I'll be there next weekend with the kids, who are both good on a board.

They don't rent them, we brought them with us. Along with a cheap raft for my 6 year old and someone to ride with him.
Life jackets are required to be within reach for everyone and children under 13 must wear them. On a SUP it's easiest to just wear them.
Traffic was horrendous. We dropped a car off at Sentinel Beach and it took forever, but I understand there is a shuttle you can take for $2 per person, but I'm not sure if you could bring a SUP on it. You could ask at the raft rental place at Curry (oh sorry Half Dome...) village.
You can make a right turn and head up Yosemite Creek towards lower Yosemite falls easily on a SUP.

Thank Fet. The kids wear PFDs when we go out in down here in So Cal. Looks like a super fun way to explore the park. Good argument for an inflatable. Would be fun to SUP on Tenaya Lake too.

Dumb. 90% of SUPer's are not skilled enough to be on them. It's dangerous and I'm sick of dodging them in the line up

Looks like the dolphins are getting tired of all the sweepers in the lineup:
