Wildone, you stepped into a pub 'for a Pepsi'? I would have gone for a pint - calories and you float home unaware of any pain :) Great effort.

Homefit sounds like a tough workout! Lifting and carrying awkward stuff beats bicep curls in a gym any day.

Mammoth Marathon today! 42k skate race. Interesting snow conditions spring corn with some cold powder blown onto the trail. Had a good race, my goal wa not to bonk as I have the last few times. Skied strong for the distance, finished 12th overall. Psyched for Owens Gorge tomorrow, before heading home.

Peter, congrats on finishing so well. I would love to do an XC ski race although my technique is poor and I would trash myself. How long does 42K take skating?

Lisa,
The winner did it in 2:01, very fast, he is a top US Team biathlete, 2nd place was a top Tahoe racer 7 minutes behind him, I was 22 minutes slower at 2:23. Nordic race times from day to day or race to race will vary greatly due to snow conditions.

Peter, good to know what fast times on skate skis means. I think I could build up to that, provided it was downhill all the way ;)

Aya, good luck with hand surgery. Sounds like a bad injury but at least you ice climbed all winter.

I've never picked up a tick while running.

Have they gotten worse in the ten years I've been gone from the Bay?

Worst tick episode Ive ever seen was on the east side of Diablo a few years ago on my favorite trail. Frickin Hitchcock scenario. Absolutely horrific, eons beyond anything I'd seen in years of living in tick country in other parts of the world.

Hoping to combine the Wind, pullups, and abs for obscure goals of more interest

Too obscure to mention? The love that dares not speak its name?

Let's see, there are at least two climbing scenarios I can think of for which aerobics, ab work, and weighted chins could possibly be functional training.

You're going on an expedition?

Had a nice 2hr 10min session of cardio yesterday, with 2623 calories burned. Than did 1.5 hours of bouldering.

On a road trip to AZ so I got three consecutive days up Camelback in Scottsdale via the Cholla trail.
I love this as a cardio workout since you get a 10 minute warmup walk from parking to the trailhead and a 10 minute cool down on the way back.
Tuesday - 26:45 up - 22:12 down
Wednesday - 27:52 up - 19:45 down
Thursday - no running allowed today- 28:25 up 30:00 down.
Today - let the knees recover.

Tue: 15min Antagonist & abs circuit->45min bike at 70%-80% maxHR
Wed: Rest
Thu: Hangboard
Today: antagonist & abs circuit->bike/elliptical/stairmaster (after work, we'll see which machines are funtioning, prefer the stairmaster but we only have one and it's fahq'd)

I'm super psyched, getting a good groove going with the "plus child" workouts (aerobic analog of weighted pullups?). She's keen on the bike rides and hikes as long as she gets to get out of the Chariot or backpack for a picnic and a bit of hiking on her own.

Trip to UT included

 Fisher Towers hike
Road ride in Arches: part asphalt, part 4wd road
Klondike bluffs ride: 4wd road, slickrock, single track
 Canyonlands ride: asphalt, gravel
 Canyonlands hikes: 5, 5, 12 miles

Back home now, despite shaky weather got in a trail ride down in Boulder between rainstorms. Going to ride over to some boulders this afternoon. Pulling the Chariot back through Nederland wind should compensate for the short mileage.

Hand surgery yesterday means still quite a lot of pain today, esp whenthe hand is below heart level, so I guess I should take a few days off. Step class while all vicodin'ed up doesn't seem too bright anyhow.

I feel like a fat slacker though!

Aya, just think of all the things you can do once your hand is 100% again. There are a number of movements you can do one-armed, or focussing only on lower body, but not while on Vicodin. Hope you get off that stuff quickly and can do modified workouts.
