First half looked like two boxers on a slack line - all it will take is one slip.
Ref has been impeccable although his linesmen have missed 3 calls.
There wasn't a foul called for the first 27 minutes! Surely a World Cup record!
The Germans' benefited from Puyol's inability to see the ball because he won't get a haircut.
Germans' defense just good enough but it was a near run thing a couple of times.
When they countered they looked a little tight - Ozil's first touch failed him.

Great exhibition from both Germany and Spain.

Spain dominated with pressure in both offense and defense. Germany seemed to allow Spain to have there space.

Great game.

Now I can;t wait for Sunday...

Another n00b question...

is the jersey exchange after the match a football custom? Nice gesture.

g

EDIT: I thoroughly enjoyed watching that.

A great game by two classy sides. Rarely see a cleaner game with
nary a mean-spirited foul. No diving, no whining - played by men.
I had just noted how huge Pique and Puyol had been when he overcame his hairdo big time.

A good game - I saw most of it while waiting for my car to be maintained today. Overall Spain was the better team, and deserved to win, although it could have gone either way.

The story about Whillans and the International Mount Everest Expedition is a nice one, but apocryphal. The World Cup in Mexico was in 1970. (Germany beat England 3-2 in extra time in the quarter final, avenging their loss in 1966 in the final.) IMEE was in spring 1971.

Almost all Whillans tales are apocryphal.

I have become an enthusiastic futball fan for the first time, aside from watching my own kids play, really enjoyed the last few games, and the Ghana v. Uruguay game was one of the most gripping sporting events I have ever watched. Can't wait for Sunday!

Saturday's game may also be quite good - often the third place match is more open and entertaining.

I wonder if donini would change his tune if Italy or the US was still in it? Or maybe he's a secret curling fan?

Nicely put Riley.

Gene, the jersey exchange is just that, a nice gesture of sportsmanship. Often the stars of each team do the exchange. I think Klose and Villa exchanged last night.

Dang,
I should have waited until that US/England mockery of a game to bring this topic up. Could have gotten over 200 responses at the Taco stand. I guess just like in soccer, it's all about timing.

Anyway, couldn't have turned out better as far as I am concerned. Now I can pull for the better team on Sunday, without the burden of any silly sentimental/nationalistic/historical attachments. Beautiful.

I suppose it would be too much to ask for some kind of 3-3 uber-classic or even for it to be as clean and dive-free as Spain-Germany, but I will anyway.

I am leaning 60/40 that the Oranje will pull this off. Spain have been giving me near hear attacks since the start, how long can they go just scoring one late?

1 - 1 after 90 with Netherlands equalizing in stoppage time. Then they get the winner in extras.
