Bump. Twelve inches. Eggs Ackley.
You can fold or throw in one of your cats, as long as it's a real feline and not some Euro version of a Cat & Mouse Game.
Hee-haw!

Lord, give me what I want most, or I'll sue...
Lord, give me the strength and the bank account I need to combat feline arrogance.
Lord, let them see life thorugh the eyes of a hungry, but humble, field photographing mouse.
And thanks for getting me out of the house.
Ricky D,
As much as the public used to like Topo Gigio, Supertopo Gigio says he's dead as Opera. Give the little urban poser his funeral and let's move on. Granted, it will be a whing-ding of a funeral, like JFK's or Joe Green's.
The help is not very good around here. They need more training than I have time to give them. Bear with, please.

I have big trouble. I can't approach the union on this one, either. These are scabs from Camp 4 whom I've hired to haul sets. They work cheaply, about all you can say. They know when their breaks are and that's all they know, it seems.
Leggs told me not to do it...
and now I've gone and broken my cheapo-cheapo tripod, to boot.
I don't buy all my 'biners at Grocery Outlet, just to spend the savings on somebody's laziness. Guys go climb walls and spend so much energy, they look on jobs like this as a form of recreation.
I need a really rich, very stupid producer if this is gonna run much longer.

Guido Contini alla ricossa!
I think not: He's too damned stupid...that was Kate Hudson, ferfergiesakes!
It could be worse, Luisa. Remember that.
[Click to View YouTube Video]Do I need to repeat myself nine times, like I seem to have to do to get work out of these dirtbag scabs? Hell, they managed to put up a video, but the thing is running two times instead of just once! Feck feck feck!!!
zeeBs neebs! What am I gonna do? I've run out of chocolate syrup and my baby's gone to heaven, besides.
And the cows have gone home.
I'll be Lucky if I don't FREAK OUT!
I should wait and talk this over with somebody I can trust.
Gene! Bring yer boots with ya! We need to check out some boulders. Make plans to be home later than normal.

If you want to know what I climbed yesterday, I have lowered expectations now I'm 65 and asthmatic. I've been content lately getting out and stretching my legs and piddling on top of these cone-like objects out north of town.
It turned out that I was wrong in my a*#essment of which point of land is the HPCT hereabouts. I made it good with another two forays out there.
Early in the afternoon, around two, I went out to snap some photos of the Rim Fire's cumulus. I noticed that the hill further east from the first one I climbed and the one I climbed after that, which I thought was the highest, were not the closest. The one I ascended today around sunset was furthest south, hence closest to town.
How we worship numbers in our lives! What day of the month? What time of the day? Who's older? Who's a ten and who's a one? Just go do SOMETHING, it doesn't need to be the best, the highest, the hardest, or the prettiest, as long as you feel it's right, it's solid.
It's available, but it costs!
n.b., edit, whatever: That's too bad--that last photo doesn't show the eerie glow off to the left like my original.
Meh, ya get the picature, Boo-Boo?
Smokey did, even just casually observing. What a nose! The place is a tinderbox.

Beautiful decay.
The cones themselves all seem to be eroded from meltwater passing through the lower slopes of the Sierra Nevada to begin with, from the large glaciers of the SN, and it took some force, of course. Mammoth melting and flow created by them started the erosion, then the rains came and have been finishing off the job for longer than Donini has been alive.
The cobbles are washed out long before that, along with auriferous (gold-bearing) goodies and they form the layer under the top of the relatively hard layer of solid rock below the summits of these cones. You should see the depth of this solid layer, which is very well-exposed on the south bank of the Merced near my bro's place in Merced Falls. It's substantial and continues up and down the valley.
There are younger cobbles sitting atop a layer of harder stone, and under the stone are older cobbles, as well. The younger cobbles lying about on the hills are part of this layer, but haven't any gold to speak of, or small amounts. Remember the dredge piles from earlier? That guy was working basically the same layer as the dredges out at my Mike's. He likely found enough to keep him going, and not much more, if any, I would think. the larger dredges kept money rolling in and some folks made some good money there.
As for the little hummocks, they have counterparts in the flat spots where the stones gather in low spots.
Let's hear the real story, though...I'm as in the dark as you and Angus concerning this. It is a weird pattern. Like I indicated earlier, back in the thread, I believe the hummocks are caused when one cobble gets exposed, slowly, and the slope of the cobble determines the directional aspect of the erosion of the rest of the slope.
The turth is, this is and has been my best guess since the 2000 Census, when a co-worker, Twila Stout, asked me if I knew. She's a librarian, you'd think she'd be able to look sh#t up instead of asking a doofus.
And thanks, Prof D, it's nice to hear you're interested.
Marlow, cat that sh#t out! It's Verdi impolite to show the climax before the fat lady sings.

TITTY MOUSE AND TATTY MOUSE
Titty Mouse and Tatty Mouse both lived in a house.
Titty Mouse went a−gleaning, and Tatty Mouse went a−gleaning.
So they both went a−gleaning.
Titty Mouse gleaned an ear of corn, and Tatty Mouse gleaned an ear of corn.
So they both gleaned an ear of corn.
Titty Mouse made a pudding, and Tatty Mouse made a pudding.
So they both made a pudding.
And Tatty Mouse put her pudding into the pot to boil.
But when Titty went to put hers in, the pot tumbled over, and scalded her to death, and Tatty sat down and
wept.
Then the three−legged stool said, “Tatty, why do you weep?”
“Titty's dead,” said Tatty, “and so I weep.”
“Then,” said the stool, “I'll hop,” so the stool hopped.
Then a broom in the corner of the room said, “Stool, why do you hop?”
“Oh!” said the stool, “Titty's dead, and Tatty weeps, and so I hop.”
“Then,” said the broom, “I'll sweep,” so the broom began to sweep.
Then said the door, “Broom, why do you sweep?”
“Oh!” said the broom, “Titty's dead, and Tatty weeps, and the stool hops, and so I sweep.”
“Then,” said the door, “I'll jar,” so the door jarred.
Then the window said, “Door, why do you jar?”
“Oh!” said the door, “Titty's dead, and Tatty weeps, and the stool hops, and the broom sweeps, and so I
jar.”
“Then,” said the window, “I'll creak,” so the window creaked.
Now there was an old form outside the house, and when the window creaked, the form said, “Window,
why do you creak?”
“Oh!” said the window, “Titty's dead, and Tatty weeps, and the stool hops, and the broom sweeps, the
door jars, and so I creak!”
“Then,” said the old form, “I'll gallop round the house.” So the old form galloped round the house.
Now there was a fine large walnut tree growing by the cottage, and the tree said to the form, “Form, why
do you gallop round the house?”
“Oh!” says the form, “Titty's dead, and Tatty weeps, and the stool hops, and the broom sweeps, the door
jars, and the window creaks, and so I gallop round the house.”
“Then,” said the walnut tree, “I'll shed my leaves.” So the walnut tree shed all its beautiful green leaves.
Now there was a little bird perched on one of the boughs of the tree, and when all the leaves fell, it said,
“Walnut tree, why do you shed your leaves?”
“Oh!” said the tree, “Titty's dead, and Tatty weeps, the stool hops, and the broom sweeps, the door jars,
and the window creaks, the old form gallops round the house, and so I shed my leaves.”
“Then,” said the little bird, “I'll moult all my feathers,” so he moulted all his gay feathers.
Now there was a little girl walking below, carrying a jug of milk for her brothers' and sisters' supper, and
when she saw the poor little bird moult all its feathers, she said, “Little bird, why do you moult all your
feathers?”
“Oh!” said the little bird, “Titty's dead, and Tatty weeps, the stool hops, and the broom sweeps, the door
jars, and the window creaks, the old form gallops round the house, the walnut tree sheds its leaves, and so I
moult all my feathers.”
“Then,” said the little girl, “I'll spill the milk.” So she dropt the pitcher and spilt the milk.
Now there was an old man just by on the top of a ladder thatching a rick, and when he saw the little girl
spill the milk, he said, “Little girl, what do you mean by spilling the milk? your little brothers and sisters must go without their suppers.”
Then said the little girl, “Titty's dead, and Tatty weeps, the stool hops, and the broom sweeps, the door
jars, and the window creaks, the old form gallops round the house, the walnut tree sheds all its leaves, the little
bird moults all its feathers, and so I spill the milk.”
“Oh!” said the old man, “then I'll tumble off the ladder and break my neck.”
So he tumbled off the ladder and broke his neck; and when the old man broke his neck, the great walnut
tree fell down with a crash and upset the old form and house, and the house falling knocked the window out,
and the window knocked the door down, and the door upset the broom, and the broom upset the stool, and
poor little Tatty Mouse was buried beneath the ruins.
And the great mountain wept, as well, for Tatty Mouse, shedding its layers of ice in a huge flood, and the gold rush resulted.
That was as good a story/explanation/fabrication as any.
And more entertaining than educational, but that's how the Mouse rocks.
