What makes you think I would agree to a discussion and then "run" as you put it?
I would not, and don't know how you could think that of me.
Dr. F, my only point was to point out to the other posters on this thread, that you do not
speak for me when you talk about what you think people on the left favor politically.
I have no interest in going over any differences you and me may have.
There was nothing of malice in my post to you. I hope you know that.

"Let me put it to you this way: If I were to come to your house and take 2 of your TVs and give it to other people, I am very confident I could get a sampling of opinions that says 2 to 1 taking your stuff and giving it away is better for more people."
As a matter of fact you would be right, at least as regards TV's.
Kind of odd you chose to work in TV units as your metric?
TV viewership is dropping day by day.
Oh yes, and by the way.
Let's hear three huzzahs for Pinky Lee!

Skip, no, of course I don't mind you're reposting my sentiment on differences.
And you are very welcome, and thank you for the comment.
I will say something I said about a year ago on this thread:
Wouldn't it be nice and refreshing if we could talk about what we DO agree on,
rather than constantly pointing out the differences?
I suspect that idea will fail now as fast as it failed a year ago.
Same reason the news media does not talk about all the things that went ok today,
and all the nice things people did for each other.
They know that that is boring, and it is only by raising the emotions of their viewers
that they can be assured of keeping them watching, and thereby keeping their viewership
high for the advertising to keep the checks coming in to their pockets.
Emotion, like sex, sells.
And so polite, civil political discourse accentuating the positives between us all is a "fail".
Anyone disagree?

Cool Skip, let's you and me give it a try.
I have already reached out to Bluering.
I have commended him on his self honesty.
Anyone else here want to give this a shot?
I am proposing that we drop the labeling talk, the generalizing and demonizing of the
other side.
I am proposing that we try to find what we CAN agree on first.
Anyone else?

Alright Jhedge and Dr. F., I asked and you ignored my request.
That is your right to keep the dividing, labeling, and emotional rhetoric flowing.
I am willing to try what you will not even consider.
I will start by changing my relationship with Skip.
And I will extend my personal offer to anyone else who wants to give this a try.
I vow to first try to find common ground of agreement with Skip, and to have our
discourse be polite, civil, and personally respectful.
You all CUD give this a try, but it sounds like you are too stubborn and incapable of change.

You ought to hear yourself sometimes Dr. F.
Your rhetoric is as relentlessly labeling and intentionally loaded to produce the very
replies that you claim are impossible to avoid.
A lot of the time, you goad and provoke because you seem to want to get the exact
responses that you do end up getting.
It goes nowhere and like Lois, makes it all about her, and in this case, you.

Who's getting tired of the flame throwers?
I think we can all agree that we want enough freedom for ourselves to live the lives we want, AND we do not want people starving nor receiving the basic cares of life.
I would hope we could start the discussion about a legal system that can handle this.
Dig it.

With all (or any) due respect Norton but you are wrong about DrF and your comparisons to Skipt & LEB. Totally wrong!

Jdhedge, nah, there was no "failure" at attempting civil discourse.
After all, you wanted no part of it.
Keep it going all you want.
Only two people have agreed to interact only with each other in a certain way.
No one else agreed on anything, including you.
No big deal, none of your concern.
